Be it known that I, Jnssn G. WORK, a citizen of the United States of America, re-

siding at Sharon, in the county of Mercer and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain .new and useful Improvements in lVall-Papering Devices, of which the following 1s a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.

This invention relates to a wall papering device, and the primary object of my invention is the provision of novel means for expeditiously and economically applying wall paper to a wall or other surface.

Another object of this invention is to provide a novel device for holding a roll of wall. I

With the above and other objects in view, the invention resides in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter specifically described and then claimed.

A wall papering device in accordance with this inventioncomprises a cylindrical reservoir 1 having the front side thereof provided with a longitudinal slot 2 extending from one end thereof to the opposite end. The rear side of the reservoir, intermediate the ends thereof, is provided with a rearwardly extending handle 3, whereby the device can be easily carried and manipulated. Soldered or otherwise secured upon the ends of the reservoir are'flanged caps 4 having the inner sides thereof provided with central bearings 5 for a longitudinal rod 6. Revolubly mounted upon the rod 6,

adjacent to the bearings 5, are the flanged heads 7 of a hollow paste applying roll 8. This-roll is ofless length and diameter than the reservoir 1 and said roll is provided with a plurality of circumferentially arranged openings 9, said openings being formed intermediate the ends thereof. The reservoir 1 has a filling opening 10 normally closed by a plug or cap 11 and liquid paste placed in the reservoir also passes through the openings 9 into the roll 8. The roll 8 is mounted in the paste contained in the reservoir 1 and at the same time carries a quantity of paste and which is discharged from each end thereof into the lower portion of the reservoir and is also discharged through the openings'9. The periphery of the roll 8 is covered-with paste. The caps {t are provided with extensions 12 and sets of lugs 13, the lugs 13 being arranged above and below the extensions 12. Revolubly mounted between the lugs 13 are rollers 14. One of the extensions 12 has an opening for the pintle 15 of a roller 16 and the other extension has a vertical slot 17 to receive the pintle 18 at the opposite end of the roller The pintle 18 is retained within the slot 17 by a slide 19 arranged upon the inner side of the slotted extensions. The slide 19 has a lon 'tudinal slot 20 to receive the pintle 18 an the upper and lower edges of said slide are provided with flanges 21 to engage the upper and lower edges of the slotted extension. The roller 16 supports a roll of wall paper 22 and the outer end of the paper is carried over and under the rollers 14 and through the slot 2 to engage the paste applying roller 8.

To use the device, the free end of the roll of paper is placed against the wall, at the ceiling or adjacent thereto and then the device is moved downwardly toward the floor, the paper unrolling from the roll 22 and adhering to the wall. The movement of the device is followed up by afinishing brush and as the device can be held by one hand, the finishing brush can be easily manipw lated by the other hand to smooth the paper against the wall after the paste has been appliedto the paper. An adjoining wall or previouslylaid piece of paper serves as after the floor has been reached, the paper can be cut and the device again carried upwardly for a down stroke.

It is through the medium of the slide 19 that the roll 16 can be removed, placed in a new roll of wall paper and the roll of wall paper placed in position for use. A movement of the wall paper over the roller 8 causes the roller to revolve and as it revolves the paste is applied to the wall paper as the paper passes through the slot 2.

The device in its entirety can be made of light and durable metal and of various size.

What I claim is:

1. A device of the class described comprising a reservoir and having a slot for the passage of the web of a roll of paper as the latter unwinds, a handle carried thereby, a paste applying roller revolubly mounted in said reservoir and. having circumferentially arranged openings formed therein in-- termediate the ends thereof and capable of applying paste to the web of paper as it passes through said reservoir, extensions carried by the ends of said reservoir and capable of supporting a roll of paper, lugs carried by the ends of said reservoir adjacent to said extensions, and rollers revolubly mounted between said lugs.

2. A device of the type described comprising a reservoir and having a slot for the passage of the web of a roll of paper as the latter unwinds from the roll, a handle carried thereby, a paste applying roller revolubly mounted in said reservoir and having oircumferentially arranged openings formed therein intermediate the ends thereof and capable of applying paste to said web as it passes through said reservoir, extensions carried by the ends of said reservoir, lugs carried by the ends of said reservoir adjacent to said extensions, rollers revolubly mounted between said lugs, and means including a slide for detachably holding a roll of wall paper between said extensions.

3. A wall papering device comprising a cylindrical reservoir having a filling opening, a handle carried thereby, a hollow paste applyii'lg roller revolubly mounted in said reservoir and having openings formed therein, extensions carried by the ends of said reservoir, sets of lugs carried by the ends of said reservoir, rollers revolubly mounted between said lugs, and a slide carried by one of said extensions and adapted to detachably hold the roll of wall paper in engagement with said extensions.
