This invention relates to easks for holding lager beer and other liquids, andconsists in providing the same, during the process of construction, with devices hereinafter described.
The letter A designates the cask, composed of cement made of lime and sand, and provided at suitable places with one or more bung-holes, B, through which the liquid is admitted or drawn. The bungholes are made of tubes of metal or other suitable material set in the walls of the cask during the process of construction, and, in order to secure them in place, I make shoulders or projections O on a portion of the exterior of said tubes, in such a manner that when they are iuclosed in the walls of the cask they are prevented from moving out or in, being held by their shoulders or projections. In this example I have made the projections G with inclined sides, coming to a point at about the middle of the tube.
The letter D designates the door-way or man-holei of the cask. Said door-way is provided with an open metallic frame or casing, E, which is set in the wall in the process of construction, and which has on its bearings for the door F, which is held up against them from within by a bolt or bolts, G, and an outside bridge-plate, H, which bears against the outer surface of the frame or casing E. I
The door F is grooved upon its face, as at I, near its edge, where it bears upon the frame or casing E, and in the groove I placea packing of India rubber or other suitable material, to make a tight joint.
\Vhat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The door-way D, produced by means of the frame E, formed with a bung-hole, and having projections G on its outer surfaces, and forming, in connection with the cask A, casings or bearings for the door F, provided with suitable fastening devices,- substantially as described.
