To all wiz-0m t may concern Be it known that I, MARIE K. BAKER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Houston, in the county of Harris and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dolls, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to new and useful improvements in dolls.

The object of the invention is to produce a doll which will be durable and at the same time attractive in appearance, and in order to accomplish this object the face, neck and shoulders are made rigid by means of a stiff form having the contour o-f the human bust and countenance, which serves to make these parts more durable and at the same time imparts a sucient amount of rigidity to the head and neck, said form having suitable clamps which clasp the head of the doll on each side and the trunk of the doll both in front and rear.

`With the above and other objects in view my invention has particular relation to certain novel features of construction and arrangement of parts, an example of which is given in this specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1, represents the doll in perspective. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view thereof with portions of the lower limbs broken away, and Fig?) is a perspective view of the stili covering for the face, neck and bust.

Referring now more particularly to the drawings, wherein like numerals of reference designate similar parts in each of the figures, the numeral 4c refers to a fabric sack which completely envelops the stuffing of the head and trunk portions and is shaped so as to give the proper human contour.

The numeral 5 designates a stili fac-e piece preferably composed of Celluloid or a suitable metal which is formed to give the appearance of a human face and which has perforations around the rear edge thereof through which engaging means may be passed to secure the same to the fabric and which carries rearwardly extending clamps 6, integral with the face piece and designed to clasp the head, on each side, and hold the face piece rmly in place. Integral with the face piece and extending down therefrom is the neck portion 7, forming the front part of the neck. This portion is extended laterally so as to partially cover the shoulders and has suitable straps 8 and 9, which extend downwardly and clamp the trunk in front and in the rear, respectively, and are fastened to the trunk so as to hold the stiffening portions in their proper place.

The numeral 10 refers to an outer fabric covering which envelops the rear portion of the head and neck and extends about half way down the trunk enveloping the rear and front portions thereof and covering over the shoulders and the straps 8 and 9.

The numeral 11 designates an outer fabric covering, which is sewed on the lower portion of covering 10 and the back portion of which envelops the rear and lower part of the trunk, extending to the lower extremity thereof, and the face part of this covering envelops the front and lower portion of the trunk, and continues on down to form the fabric covering of the lower limbs and feet. i

The upper limbs and hands are formed of suitably stuffed fabric 12 continuing in one piece around t-he bust so as to unite the arms securely to the trunk.

The numeral 13 designates the wig, formed of a suitably shaped piece of loosely woven hair or colo-red fabric secured in place on the head by means of hooks 14 which are carried by the face piece, as shown, and are designed to engage with the wig around its front edge and secure the same on the head and over said hooks and conceal the same from View. It will usually be found desirable to also sew the wig on the rear portion of the head to secure the same closely down thereon. In lieu of this wig the crown of the head may be painted so as to imitate hair.

The lower portions of the limbs, and the hands and feet are then suitably painted for the purpose of making them more durable and giving to them Ia human appearance.

It will be observed that the fabric of the limbs form one continuous piece with the trunk portions of fabric and are thus much less likely to be torn from the body, and the face, neck and shoulders are formed of a continuous piece of stiff material thus pre serving the shape of these parts and by this method of construction a doll is produced which will be very durable and at the same time will retain its original and proper shape.

What I claim is l. A doll having a stiff face piece and rearwardly extending clamps carried thereby, one on each side, and disposed to clamp the head of the doll.

2. A doll having a sti face piece and rearwardly extending clamps carried thereby, on each side, and clamping the doll head and suitable engaging means carried by said face piece and engaging with the wig of the doll and holding the same in position on l the head.

A doll having a stii face and neck piece, the neck portion extending laterally over the shoulders and members extending from the shoulder portion and clamping the trunk of the doll in front and rear and rearwardly extending resilient clamps carried by the face piece and clamping the head of the doll on each side.

4. A doll having a stiff face and neck piece, the lower end of the neck portion extending laterally over the shoulders and resilient straps extending down in front and rear from the laterally extending neck portion and clamping the trunk of the doll and rearwardly extending resilient clalnps carried by the face piece and clamping the head of the doll.

5. A doll having a trunk, head and limbs composed of a fabric covering and suitable stuiiing enveloped thereby, the fabric of the head being continuous with that of the trunk; a stiff face piece, shaped to conform to the contour of the human face and secured over the fabric of the head of the doll `and suitable clamps carried by the face piece and clamping the doll head.

6. A doll having a stiffened body portion terminating at one end in a neck and head portion, a rigid piece shaped to conform to the contour of the human face and secured upon the front side of the head, rearwardly extending resilient clamps carried upon each side of the face piece and clamping said head, a wig upon the crown of the head and suitable engaging hooks carried by the face piece arranged in a row under the front edge of the wig and engaging with the wig and securing the same in place.

7. A doll having a stuffed body portion terminating at one end in a neck and head portion, a rigid piece shaped to' conform to the contour of the human face and secured upon the front side of the head, flexible clamps carried upon each side of the face piece and engaging with said head, a wig upon the crown of the head, suitable engaging hooks carried by the face piece for engaging with the wig and securing the saine in place and paint applied over said wig and limbs.

8. A doll having a trunk, head and limbs, composed of a fabric covering and suitable stuliing enveloped thereby, the fabric of the head being continuous with that of the trunk and the fabric of the limbs being continuous with the trunk fabric, a still face piece shaped to conform to the contour of the human face and secured over the fabric of the head of t-he doll, suitable clamps carried by the face piece and clamping the doll head, a stiff neck portion integral with the face piece and extending laterally over the shoulder and members extending from the shoulder portion and being integral therewith and clamping the trunk of thc doll in the front and rear.
