PETER R. SCI-IMALTZ, OF PITTSTON, PENNSYLVANIA.
CURTAIN-FIXTURE.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, PETER R. SCHMALTZ, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pittston, in the county of Luzerne and State of Pennsylvania, have invented cert-ain new and useful Improvements in Curtain-Fixtures, of which the following is a specication, reference being had to the a-ccompanying drawings.
MyY invention relates to new and useful improvements in curtain fixtures and more particularly to a combined curtain pole and curtain roller bracket, and my object is to provide a device of this charac-ter wherein a. curtain pole bracket may be readily and quickly applied to the bracket of a curtain roller and adjustable with respect thereto so as to provide for poles of various lengths.
A further object of the invention resides in providing the curtain roller bracket with a slot in one face thereof and a contiguous notch in the adjacent face, which slot and notch are adapted to receive an angular arm from the curtain pole bracket, and a still further object resides in providing a curtain pole bracket with an arm which is designed so as to give a spring action when applied to the roller bracket.
Still another object of the invention resides in providing the pole bracket with a bracing arm, the free end of which is provided with al head adapted to rest iatly against the wall or casing to which the same is applied, and a still further object resides in providing a device which is extremely simple and durable in construction, inexpensive to manufacture, and one which is very etlicientand useful in operation.
With these and other objects in view, my invention consists in the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter referred to and more particularly pointed out in the specification and claims.
In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this application, Figure 1 is a perspective view showing my device applied to use, and Fig. 2 is a top plan view thereof partly in section.
In carrying out my invention, I shall refer to the drawing in which similar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views and in which- 1 indicates a window casing to which is secured a curtain roller bracket 2, said bracket Specification of Letters Patent.

being of the usual angular type, the one angular face 3 of which is secured to the casing by means of the screws or the like 4 and the opposite arm or face 5 of which is provided with the usual notch or slot 6 adapted to receive the stem of the curtain roller (not shown). The face 8 of the angular bracket is substantially at right angles to the face 5 thereof, so that when properly applied to the casing, said face or arm 5 thereof is substantially at right angles to the front face of the casing, and the face or arm 3 is provided with a central horizontal slot 7, while the face 5 is provided with a central notch 8 in alinement wit-h said slot 7.
The bracket 2 is, as stated, adapted to receive one end of a curtain roller, and I have also provided a curtain pole bracket 9 which comprises an arm 10, the one end of which is curved to form a substantially semicircular hook 11 in alinement with the general trend of said arm, while the opposite end of the arm 10 is bent laterally thereof, as shown at 12. This laterally extending portion 12 of the arm 10 is :dat and somewhat arcuately designed with respect to the arm 10, the same being adapted to be received in the slot 9 and notch 8 of the respective arms or faces of the bracket 5. The notch 8 forms a substantial bridge for the angular arm l2, and as said arm is somewhat arcuate, the same, when inserted through the notch, will bind tightly in yielding engagement against the walls thereof, thereby retaining the bracket arm 10 against the front face of the casing 1. In order to brace the arm 10 in posit-ion, the arm 13 is provided which may be formed integrally or otherwise with the arm 10 at the point whereon the hook 1l is formed, said latter arm 13 being divergently disposed with respect to the other arm and the free end of the arm 18 which is substantially in the same vertical plane with the arm 12, which is provided with a flat head 14, said head being adapted to rest against the casing 1 when the bracket 9 is properly positioned in the bracket 5. From this construction, it will be seen that when said bracket 9 is properly engaged with the bracket 5, the former will not be adapted to be readily released through casual disengagement, and while being held securely for the general use thereof, the same may be readily adjusted laterally so as to provide for curtain poles of various lengths. In this connection, it might be stated that it is not absolutely necessary that the bracket 5 be used as a curtain roller bracket, as the same may be nothing more than a supporting bracket for the curtain pole bracket, if so desired, but it is, of course, preferable that the device be used in connection with curtain roller brackets, for obvious purposes.
In operation, the brackets 5 are irst ap plied to the casing, whereupon the brackets 9 are brought into engagement with the brackets 5 by the insertion of the arm 12 through the slots 7 and notches `8. As stated previously, the curvature of the arm 12 of the bracket 9 will provide a means by which the bracket may frictionally bind against the walls of the notch 8, and as this arm 12 has somewhat of a spring tension, the arm 12 will remain in yielding engagement with the bracket 5. The bracket 9 may be securely braced against the casing by the arm 13, and it will be appreciated that the same may be adjusted laterally with respect to the bracket 5 by merely forcing the bracket 9 toward the bracket 5 or drawing the same therefrom, whereby the same may be designed to accommodate curtain poles of various lengths. Then it is desired to entirely eliminate the use of the curtain pole bracket, it will be seen that the same may be readily removed, and as no extra structure is provided in connection with the bracket 5, there will be nothing remaining which will form an obstacle or otherwise mar the appearance of the bracket 5.
From the foregoing, it will be seen that I have provided a simple, inexpensive and efficient device for carrying out the objects of the invention, and while I have particularly described the elements which are most well adapted to perform the functions set forth, it is obvious that various changes in form, proportion and in the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the principles of the invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is 1. A curtain fixture, comprising an angular body plate having a slot in one face thereof, and a notch in the other face alining with said slot, and a curtain pole bracket having a laterally extending arm thereon, said arm being designed arcuately with respect to t-he main arm of the bracket and adapted to be received in said slot and notch of the body plate.
2. A curtain fixture, comprising an angular body plate adapted to be applied to a stationary object, the one face of said plate being provided with a horizontal slot and the other with a. notch in alinement with said slot, a curtain pole bracket comprising a main arm having a laterally extending portion thereon, said laterally extending portion being designed arcuately and adapted to be received through the slot and in yielding engagement with the walls of said notch, and a bracing arm for the main arm of said bracket.
3. A curtain fixture of the class described, comprising an angular body plate, one face of which is provided with a horizontal slot and the other face having a notch therein in alinement with said slot, and a curtain pole bracket comprising a main arm having a laterally extending portion thereon, said lateral portion being designed somewhat arcuately and disposed through said slot and into yielding engagement withv the walls of said notch, and a bracing arm for the main arm of said bracket, said bracing arm being provided with a head on the free end thereof.
In testimony whereof I hereunto atlix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
