Description
@titled guette @met @Bmw Letters Patent No. 102,083, dated Apr/il 19, 1870.
MPRVED WASHING-MACHINE.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it may concern gan, have invented a new and useful Improvement in,
XVashing-Machines; and do hereby declare that the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying plate of drawings, lhereinafter referred to, forms a. full and exact specification of the same, wherein I have set forth the nature and principles of' my said improvement, by which my invention may be distinguished'iiom others of a similar class, together with such parts as I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent.
My invention relates to that class of washing-machines in which i'luted rollers are made use of; and
Its nature consists in` certain modifications in the details of the same, whereby the roller is made vertically adjustable'.
In the accompanying plate of drawings, which illustrates my invention and forms a part of the specification, in which corresponding parts are-represented by similar letters- Figure 1 is a view, in perspective, of my invention, and f Figure 2, a detached view, illustrating the arrangement of the rollers. Y
The construction, operation, and relative arrangement of the component parts of my invention are as follows, to wit:
A box or trough is supported upon the legs A, which are connected by the transverse pieces B, provided with oblong rectangular apertures c.
Within the lsaid apertures and upon the said crosspieces rest the longitudinal bars D, constructed of some elastic material.
Between said bars are placed the skids E.
The uted roller F, provided with the axle-shaft H, has its bearings in a cylindrical aperture cut in the block I, and vertical bars K, and is operated by the crank L.
yThe block I fits in a rectangular oblong slot cut in the upper sides of the said box or trough, in such a manner as to admit of a vertical adjustment.
The lesser rollers M also have their bearings in the longer side of the box, andare provided with an open band, N.
The vertical bars K are connected by a aross-piece, o, which passes under the bars D.
lThe machine is operated by turning vthe rank L, which imparts motion to the rollers F and M a xd band N, causing the clothes to be washed to pass between the vroller F and the vsaid band.
The roller F is vertically adjusted, and rendered adaptable to the quantity or size of the clothing to be washed` by means of the lateral movement of the"\ skids E.
Having thus described the construction, operation,
and relative. arrangement of the component parts of my invention, I will indicate what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, in the following clause.
' llhe arrangement of the longitudinal elastic bars D,
resting uponA the transverse supports B, when provided with skids E, for the purpose of vertically adjusting the roller F, vertical bars K, provided with the blocks I and cross-piece o, the rollers F and M, and band N, when constructed and operated substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the lforegoing, I have hereunto set my hand this 14th day of January, 1870. SAMUEL BRACKETT.
Witnesses WM. O. SHEARMAX, JAS. MAHAFFA.
