0. RAUGH.
UMBRELLA HOLDER.
APPLICATION FILED SEPT. 25, 1911 Patented Mar. 19, 1912.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
OTTO RAUCH, 0F TRUSCOT, TEXAS.
. P UMBRELLA-HOLDER.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, O'rro RAUCII, a citizen of the United States, residing at Truscot, in the county of Knox and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Umbrella-Holders, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to umbrella holders which are principally used upon farming implements, and the principal object of the same is to provide a device for adjustably connecting the umbrella with the frame of a riding implement, such for instance as a harrow, or plow so that the umbrella may be positioned over the person operating the machine. The attaching device is so constructed that the angle of the umbrella may be adjusted.
In carrying out the objects of the invention generally stated above, it will be understood, of course, that the essential features thereof are susceptible of changes in details and structural arrangements one preferred and practical embodiment being shown in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a side elevation of the attaching device having an umbrella connected therewith. Fig. 2 is an end elevation of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a plan view of one of the clamps used for connecting the umbrella with the attaching device.
Referring to the accompanying drawings by numerals it will be seen that the invention comprises a vertical lever 10 having a handle 11 at the upper end and having its lower portion 12 bent at right angles to its major portion and forming a rest for the umbrella. Clamps 13 and 14 are connected with the upper and lower portions of the lever and each comprises a bolt 15 which passes through the lever 10 and is secured by means of the nut 16. A pair of plates 17 and 18 are connected with the bolt and have curved portions 19 formed intermediate their length between which the umbrella is positioned. A bolt 20 connects the outer ends 21 of the plates 17 and 18 and a wing nut 22 is screwed upon the bolt 20 so that the plates may be adjusted in order to tightly clamp the umbrella.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed September 25, 1911.
Patented Mar. 19, 1912.
Serial No. 651,203.
The staff 23 of the umbrella is positioned between the curved portions 19 of the clamps and the lower end is reduced to form a pin 24 which passes through an opening formed in the end 12, thus holding the end of the staff in place.
A horizontal bar 25 is connected with the lower end 26 of a rack 27 and has one end portion 28 twisted and the opposite end portion 29 bent at right angles to its central portion. The bar 25 is used for connecting the device with the frame of a vehicle. A bolt 30 pivotally connects the lever 10 with the rack 27 and by rocking the lex er the angle of the umbrella may be adjusted. A pin 31 is slidably connected with the lever 10 by means of the car 32 and a spring 33 is mounted upon the lower portion of the pin to hold it in engagement with the rack 27. A hand grip 34 is pivotally mounted upon the lever adjacent the handle and a rod 35 connects the hand grip with the pin 31. By rocking the hand grip the pin is raised out of engagement with the rack 27 and the lever can then be rocked to the desired position. \Vhen the hand grip is released the spring returns the pin into engagement with said rack and holds the umbrella in the adjusted position.
That I claim is A holder of the character described comprising a rack having a reduced lower end, a vertical lever pivotally connected with the reduced lower end of said rack, the lower end of said lever being bent outwardly, a latch carried by said lever and adapted to engage said rack, clamps carried by said lever and extending above the outwardly bent lower end of said lever, and a horizontal bar rigidly secured to the reduced lower end of said rack between said rack and lever and having one end bent away from said lever and the opposite end portion twisted at right angles to the major portion of the bar.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
OTTO RAUCH.
