CEMENT FENCE-POST.
Patented Jan. 30, 1912.'
. Application led May 29, 1911. Serial No. 630,078.
-Tq allwma maycpnm.- Be-it knownthat I, JACOB HUBER, a citizeri ofthe United States, residing at Blakesburg,- inthe 'county'v of Wapello, State of A lo`wa,-have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cement Fence-Posts; and
II do hereby decla-re the following. to be a lf ull,-jclear, and exactdescription of the invention, suchas will enable others skilled in 1o the-aft e6 j w'iiicn it appermins to make and invention yrelatesto fence posts constructed 'of'ceinentor they like and more'espe- ,-'cially 'to an' improvedreinforcng element.
wlres 'or' boards -ferming,thefence` Ano'ther object f the invention lis to provide a .metallic "reinforcing which is formed ltenialg"staples or nails used in Stringing the it' being a still further object to provide a device which' will notibe likely to get out of` workin order. A
n ai, 'elevationof-a post constructed in accordance 4with my invention. Fig. 2 lis an enlarged' and transverse 'sectional view thereof on the' 'line of FigL- and. showing the applic ationof wires by lineens :of staples. Fig. 3
4:5 isa` similar view but showing boards fas-` tened tothe .posts by means of nails. Fig. 4 a detailed perspective .view of the remforcing and fastening element. .Referring to the drawings 1n detail, there SA'is shown'a cement post 10 of any preferred design andcontour and which is adapted to be embedded in the ground in the usual'mam.
.nerr -In reinforcing the post 10 I emplo ya strip ofsheet metal 11 which `1s prov1 ed with aseries of laterally bent cut out tongues 19. en :Le tn firmlv mlhm'n fn the. mnliml mncombinedattachngf meansl for the fas'- .with .a peculiarly. formed. re ceii?ing member ori-laolder,y for-the fastenjnginieans of the fence, whichwill deiect-'the points ofthe fasteners to prevent accidental withdrawal-.
parts, as will be i' e draWingS'-f-Figurel is a .front-- -terial or cement and one vertical edge of the strip 10 is provided with longitudinal incis1ons13 which arebent-in opposite directions `as shown in the sectional views, thereby holdlng the molded material intactand preventing displacement of the stri its reinforced-position, in the applictioi'- and 4 withdrawal of the fastening devices now to bedesribe'df ,-65 In Fig. 2 of the drawings, I have shown l the manner of attaching the fence wires 14- Iby means "ofstaples'l'' and in such construction, I' provide a sheet metal holder 16 which. is bent on itself centrally and vertically as shown at 26 and then rebentasv shown at 18 ltofform a pair of convergindg *channels 19 for receiving the pointed en the staples-or fasteningdevioes.' Thesides of. theholder 16 are then brought together m divergent relation as shown'at 20 and the edgesrolled o r crimped .as shown at 21'andpositioned at the face of the post in spaced 'relation for-'the entrance 'of the fastening devices.- The reinforcing strip 11 -is extended between the convergent sides 22 of the holder and secured v upon OPPOS-ite sides 17 by means of rivets-23, thereby lirmly vholding the parts together.
- In Fig. 3 of the drawings, I have shown 85y thel boards 241: secured by nails 25 to the post 10 and it will be seenthat the 'rebent portion "26 will serve to deflect the points of the staples or nails Vinto the conver ent channels 19 thereby preventing their accidental with- 4drawal. It will also be seen that as the Vchannels extend the full length ofthe post, 1 the fasteningldevices may be driven at. any convenient heightand withdrawn as desired without any manner injuring the post and preventing water from lodging therein 'by reason of being embedded inthe ground.A l From the foregoing description it willbe readily -seen that the reinforcing element and holder may bev applied or molded with the cement and mayl be applied to .posts of general design. It will also be seen that the 'same ,can be constructed of galvanized 'iron .or other suitable material and when the 'fas-I tening devices are in osi-tion, the oppositely extended langes'27A fldrm d by the incisions 13' will vprevent withdrawalof the holder or dislodgment thereof as would tend to break or crack the cement. -It will thus be seen that the sheet metal reinforcing which may beapplied to posts.
`me v'rimm nhm'antms. is annnximatelv trip enguim in cross section and when embedded in ihe poet has ire sides spaced. slightly apart et the apex and exposed through a face of ihe posi; eff, the bese thereof so as to forni the restricted opening adapted to tighthv grip or bind e neil or staple driven thereinto so es lo prevent movement hereo vertically and it will be further seen that the side openings formed by the bending of 'he-1netn1 are adapted io Similarly grip the fastenersv so that they naiis or staples will have to be foi-eed therein, i'zhus serving es te further hoiding` menne. n i f y i.
