UNTT STA -TES- ATENT OFFICE.
FRED ASHWORTH, OF BEVERLY, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR TO UNITED SHOE MACHINERY COMPANY, OF PATERSON, JERSEY, A CORPORATION OF NEW JERSEY.
I THREAD-WAX'ING DEVICE.
I citizen of the United States, residing at p, the
Beverly, in the county of Essex and Stateof Massachusetts,'have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Thread-Waxing Devices;'and I do hereby declare the 'following to-be a full, clear,-and exact description. of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The present invention relates to thread waxing devices for use on wax thread sewing machines. o
The objectof the invention is to produce a thread waxing device having a compressible perforated stripper together with im proved means for supporting and compress ing the plug'so that when desired the plug can be readily removed from the machine.
With the above object in view the present invention consists in the devices and combinations of devices hereinafter describedv and claimed the advantages .of which'will be obvious tothose skilled in the art from the from the wax pot is indicated at 1. This plug is compressed more or less by a plug compressor, 2 which is perforated to permit passage of-the thread 3 and which is provided with a reduced upper end 4 seated in a cap 5: This cap is internally screwthreaded and engages an externally threaded socket 6 provided with a perforated stem having a screw-threaded engagement with the'cover 7 of the wax pot.
To enablethe plug 1 to be readily removed from the machine when it becomes hardened, andunfit for use, a sleeve is provided to're'ceive the lug and this sleeve is fitted somewhat loose y into the socket 6. As illustrated in the drawing, and particularly in Fig. 2, the sleeve is splitl longitudinally so that it is divided into two parts 8 and 9.
Patented Jan. 30,1912.-
At its lower end thesleeve is provided with i an inwardly projecting flange 10 so that ,the sleeve is somewhat in the form of a cup and at its upper end the sleeve is provided with an outwardly extending flange 11. The
flange 10 supports the lower end of the plug 1. The sleeve is thus supported by the socketand the plugis supported entirely by the sleeve and by the compressor 2. The removal of the cap 5 relieves the compressor 2 and sleeve 8 and 9 of pressure so that the compressor, sleeve andplug can be easily removed. 'The separation of the parts 8 and 9 of the sleeve frees the plug and compressor and leaves the another plug.
parts in condition to receive The preferred embodiment of the several features of the present invention .having been thus described, what is plaimed is l. A thread waxing device, having, in combination, a compressible perforatedplug to strip the wax from the thread, a split sleeve" to receive the plug, an externally threaded socket toreceivethe; sleeve, an internally threaded capmounted' on the socket, and a plugcompressor actuated. by the cap. 2. A thread waxing device, having, in combination, a compressible perforated plug to stri thewax from the thread, a sleeve to recelve the plug, an externally threaded socket to receive the sleeve, an internally threaded cap mounted on the socket, and a 3 plug compressor actuated by thecap.
3. A thread waxing device, having, in combination, a compressible perforatedplug to strip the wax from the thread, asplit' sleeve to'receive the plug, and means for compressing the plug in the sleeve.
4.. A thread waxing device, having, in combination, a compressibleperforated plug tostrip the wax from the thread, a'sleeve to recelve the plug, a socket to receive the sleeve, and means engaging the socket for compressing the plug in the sleeve while toe sleeve remains stationary. v
5. A thread waxing device, having, in combination, a compressible perforated plug to-strip the wax from the" thread, a sleeve to receive the plug provided with an in wardly projectingfiange' at its lower end, a socket to receive the sleeve. and means for compressing the plug in the sleeve.
6. A thread waxing device,' having, in combination, a compressible perforated'plug to strip the Wax from the thread, a'split sleeve to receive the plug provided at its lower end with an inwardly projecting flange, a socket to receive the sleeve and means for compressing the plug in the. sleeve.
' 7. A' thread waxing device, halving, in combination, a compressible perforated plug to strip the wax from the thread, a, split sleeve to receive the plug provided at its Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, py addressing the Commissioner of Patents,
