This hoop is formed.near its edge portions i This member is formed of mun n. VSABQURIN7 for'unwronm, VERMONT.;
residing atNewport, inxth'e county'ofQr-- leans andState of Vermont, have invented new and useful Improvements in Barrels,-
of which the following is a specification.;y This invention relates to-.barrels o r similar receptacles, and has for lan object 4toprovide' struction ofthezwalls 'of the receptacle continuous sheets or strips of' `tl1in` veneer',- each a new construction'of an article of this -char-1l v acter wherein it will be extremely light dura'4 ble and efficient and to` provide in .the constrip having its grain running in a different direction tothe adjacentfstripso as to pre` sent considerable rigidityto `the structure.
Astill further object of invention is to obviate in the construction'of the receptacle the ,usual well known' staves,;"substi tuting therefor. the hereinbefore described strips or sheets ofY veneerv and'to provide 2ilongitudinal retaining element joining Athe 1 ends of the strips 'and securely.sealinguthe the receptacle during shipment.

ment. y v v,
I claim I A receptacle comprising a body member embodying a many-layer veneer structure, eaeh having its grain extending in anopposite direction to the adjacent layer of veneer, hoops fitting over the ends ofthe receptacle, one of said hoops comprising an-outer portion formed with a reinforcing bead and adapted to fit the outer surface of the barrel,
an inner portin'bent upon itself to form a head groove, said inner and outer portions integrally connected with a top portion,
` said top portion adaptedl to cover and rig-` idly secure together the layers of veneer, vertical fastening means extending through said head groove andl adapted to securely hold the head of said receptacle in said fgroove,l said reinforcing bead and head groove being in horizontal alinement, and
'horizontal fastening means passing through said bead and groove whereby to secure the head of said receptacle and the layers of veneer in receptacle-forming relation;
l f In'testimony whereof I afiX my signature inV presence of two witnesses.
