Letters Patent No. 101,281, dated March 29, 1870.
' IMPROVED STIRRER AND EGG-BEATER.
The Schedule referred to' in thele Letters Patent and making part ofthe lame.
To all -tvhom it mag/.concern s lBe it kn'own that I, OHAREs L'nHMANmof the city i and county of Hartford and State of Connecticut,
have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stirrers suitable for .Beating Eggs, mixing liquid substances, or for mixing or combining any materials capable of beingv mixed'or combined by such a machineas is hereinafter described and set forth, and
to enable others skilled in the art to make `and use the same, I. will proceed to describe, referring to the draw ings, in which the same letters indicate like parts in each of the iigures. l
The n'ature of this invention will bennderstood from the specification and drawings. f: f
'Figure 1 is a side elevation showing kthe vessel in section.
Figure 2 is a top view of the same. v
It consists of a cylindrical vessel, a, having an axis hub, b, in the center of the bottom, c; it is also provided with a cross-bracket, d, secured in a detachable manner across the .center and near the upper edge of the vessel. s
l eis a perpendicular shaft, the lower end taking its bearing in or upon the hub b, the upper end having its bearing inor'on the bracket d. This shaft is provided with arms, f, which radiate in aspiral form from the shaft, and extend nearly to the outside wall of the vessel, a.V lhe outer ends of these arms, f, in number more or less, are held and steadied in a rm uniform position by a rim, g, secured to the outer end of each arm. These arms are made flat, of a paddleshape, and their faces arranged slightly inclined so that as the shalt, e, rotates the substance within the vessel a will be agitated and lifted or elevated upward from the bottom.
h are perpendicular breakers secured to the edges of the arms f, in numbers more or less as desirable, the object of which is to divide, .,break, and canse the parts thus broken to mingle or compound together.
A pulley or crank, t', is, attached to the shaft, e, for the purpose of vpropelling the stirrer. The material of whatever kind isplaced in t-he vessel, a, and motion is imparted thereto by means of the pulley or crank,
` i, through the stirrer. The action ofthe stirrer upon the material placed within-fthe vessel is to thoroughly stir up and -comminglethe particles together, or iu other words the shape and position of the breakers, and the position of the paddle-shape arms agitate the mass, and change it or displace it from its position near the outside of the vessel toward the center of the vessel, and from the bottom upward, thus continually stirring, changing, and compounding the mass until the whole is formed into the desired condition or conipound.
I believe I have thus shown the nature, construction, and advantage of this invention, so as to enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same therefrom. v
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is.
The spirally-formed stirrer, composed of the shaft e, arms f, rim g, and beaters h, in combination with the vessel a, ,substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
CHARLES LEHMANN. [as] Witnesses y f N. G. WILDER, J. W. Buss.
