Description

diluted tatea .DAYID IIIITOHEL, OF NEW BERLIN, PENNSYLVANIA.
Letters Patent No. 100,919, lated March 15, 1870.
IMPROVElVlIlElNTY IN' FENCE.
Mun-
'lhe Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it may concern-v Be it known that I, DAVID Mi'roHnL, of New Berlin, in the county of Union, and iii the State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Iinprovements' in Fencing; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon making a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction of fence-panels and in the manner of fastening them together by means of metal clips, so that the fence can be readily taken down and put up,or any panel taken out without distuibing the rest.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which iny invention appertains, to make and use the same, Iwill now proceed to describe its construction and arrangement, referring to the annexed drawings, in which-f Figure 1 is a perspective view of the fence, and
Figure 2 isa perspective of the metal clip.
The panels of my fence are-constructed in the foliowing manner:
Two boards, A A, are secured to vertical posts B B, one at each end and one-at the center, the post in the center being` placed on the opposite side from the end posts.
Another horizontal board, C, is placed between tbe two boards A A, said Board extending a suitable distance at one end beyond the end post, while at the other end does not extend to the end post, but is secured to a small vertical bar, D, on the same side as the center post B, leaving a space between said bar D and the end post.
Two felice-panels being made -in this manner, the projecting end of the bar O of one panel is inserted in the space mentioned on the other panel, bringing the two end posts together', as shown in the drawing, the end of the bar or board C bearing against the outer side of the bar I).
When the panels are thus placed they are secured by means of two metal clips, I I, constructed as shown in g. 2. One of these clips is put on the two lower boards A A, between the two end posts, and the other is put on the endsV of the two boards G C, close to the bar D.
A fence constructed in this manner forms a zigzag fence, and can be put up and taken down with very little trouble. Any panel in the fence can also readily be removed without disturbing the balance ofthe fence.`
Where vthe boards or post of the different panels come in contact with each other they are beveled or suitably cut out, so as to t snugly together.
Having thus fully described my invention,
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A fence-panel, constructed as described, of the horizontal boards A A and G, posts B B, and bar D, connected together by the angular clips I, all arranged substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing, I have heieunto set my hand this 10th day of January, 1870.
DAVID MITCHEL.
