Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 24, 1911.
Application filed October 24, 1910. Serial No. 588,738.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES P. YOUNG, citizen of the United States, residing at Broken Bow, in the county of Custer and State of Nebraska, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Neck- Yokes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention comprehends certain new and useful improvements in draft appliances, and relates particularly to a clip for use in connection with a jockey stick or the neck yoke of a vehicle.
The invention has for its primary object a simple construction of device of this character which will be efficient in operation in maintaining the neck yoke in a right position and insuring the yoke from breaking.
With this and other objects in view as will more fully appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists in certain constructions, arrangements and combinations of the parts that I shall hereinafter fully describe and claim.
For a full understanding of the invention, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a view illustrating one application of my invention; Fig. 2 is a perspective View thereof; and Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional View.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawings by the same reference characters.
My improved neck yoke clip comprises a main clip portion which consists of two oppositely bowed strips 1 and 2, the strips being provided at one end with corresponding extensions 3 which are secured to each other in any desired manner, preferably by some detachable fastener, whereby the device may be easily attached to and securely held on a neck yoke or the like. The strips 1 and 2 are extended at their opposite ends to a relatively greater degree than at the ends 3, said last named extensions being designated 1 and one of them being formed with apertured ears 5 which extend along the opposite side edges of the overlying extension, a tie bolt 6 extending through said cars so as to assist in holding the parts together, and a rivet 7 or similar fastening device passing through the extensions 4; underneath the tie bolt to further assist in rigidly connecting the parts.
A lug 8 is pivotally connected to the extremities of the extensions 4: and is received between said extremities, said lug being formed on a preferably round head 9 which is mounted for a substantially universal movement in the bail end 10 of a snap hook 11, the head being formed with a neck 12 fitting in an opening formed in the cross bar of said bail.
From the foregoing description in connection with the accompanying drawing, the operation of my improved device will be apparent. In the practical use'of the device, the clip member formed by the strips 1 and 2 is fastened over one end of a neck yoke for instance, while the snap hook 11 is fastened to the collar of the horse in the usual manner. By the swivel connection between the parts, it is clear that the neck yoke will be properly held in position and all danger of breaking the same will be avoided.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
A neck yoke clip comprising oppositely positioned strips having intermediate semicircular portions which abut against each other at their ends, said strips having at the ends of the said semicircular portions radially disposed end portions which abut against each other at the opposite sides of the clip, a harness engageable device pivotally connected with one set of end portions, a rivet passing through the last mentioned end portions at a point between the semicircular portions and the harness engageable device, outstanding ears formed at the side edges of one of the last mentioned end portions and receiving the other of the last mentioned end portions between them, a tie bolt extending through said ears and lying over the end of said rivet, and a clamping bolt passing through the other end portions of the clip.
In testimony whereof, I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES P. YOUNG. [n s.]
