GARBAGE GRBMATORY.
APPLICATION FILED APR.24, 1911.

UNITED sTATEs PATENT oFEIoE.
RALPH E. NYE, OF HOBART, OKLAHOMA.
GARBAGE-CREMA'IGRY.
To all whom it may concern: Y
Be it known that I, RALPH E. NYE, a citizen of the United States, anda resident of Hobart, in the county of Kiowa and State of Oklahoma, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garbage-Crematories, of which t-he following is a specification.
This invention is an improvement in furnaqes for use in incinerating garbage and has for an object to provide a novel construction in which garbage and the like may be readily moved into the incinerating chamber on a car adapted for t-he purpose and may be effectively dried and burned as will be more fully described hereinafter; and the invention consists in certain novel constructions and combinations of parts as will be hereinafter described and claimed.
In the drawing Figure 1 is a front elevation of an apparatus embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a horizontal section on about line 2-2 of Fig. 3. Fig. 3is a vertical oros section of the apparatus.
In carrying out my invention, I provide an incinerating chamber A, a fire box B, front and rear flues C and D for carrying olf the products of combustion, fumes etc. from the incinerating chamber, doors E, E, F and G, dampers C and D and frames for the several doors. The re box has a grate B and the furnace door F and ashdoor Gr are suitably arranged and operate within frames F and Gr as will be understood from Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawing. The doors E operate within a frame E and a metal beam I-I extends above the doors E and F and forms a support for the wall I above the said doors.
The walls of the apparatus may be of brick or other suitable material and cornprise the side walls 1 and the back wall 2, the latter being extended at 3 upwardly above the crown 4 of the body of the furnace as shown in Figs. 1 and 3 of the drawin l It will be noticed that the two vfines D and C are arranged one near the rear and the other near the front end of the furnace and that the intermediate wall 5 forming the inner wall of the'lire box B terminates about half way between the front and rear of the furnace so that the said fire box will discharge its heat at its rear end into the furnace so that it may be directed straight across the incinerating chamber A to the Specification of Letters Patent.

chimney D or diagonally forward to thel ychimney C by proper manipulation of the dampers C and D. vWhen both said dampers are open the products may be distributed in their passage to both said chimneys so the drying and burning of the garbage or other olfal material may be evenly distributed.
i It is obvious that in practice the apparatus may be used for cremating dead animals and for consuming garbage,' excrement, manure and other obnoxious lilth requiring Yintense heat. In doing this the front and rear chimneys in connection with the rear discharge of the .fire box may be utilized in drying off and subsequently burning the material on the car or platform J. This platform J is in the form of a car, and may be of iron mounted on small wheels so it can be conveniently rolled into and out' of the kiln or furnace when the doors E are open. The arch extending from side to side over both the incinerating chamber and the fire box and rising to the crown 4 may preferably be of brick, although other well- ,known forms of construction may be employed, if desired.
In practice, lire doors may be placed at rear, side or front of wall, as desired.
It will be noticed that the two damper' controlled outlets are arranged one inl ad- Vance of the other and that the rear outlet is practically opposite the fire box discharge so that the passage of the gases from the lire box discharge will be transversely across the furnace to the outlet D and diagonally across the furnace to the front outlet C. By this means, I am able to distribute the products from the fire box so as to cause the same to pass mainly across and lout of the outlet D or forward and out of the outlet C, or partially through both of said outlets, so that if the material on the front or rear of the car is consumed, the products ofcombustion may be deflected and caused to act uponthe material on the other 4`portion of the car.
I claim:
A crematory, substantially as described, comprising an incinerating chamber, a lire box alongside the front end of the said chamber and discharging at' its rear end into the chamber at the rear end of the latter, chimneys leading from the incinerating chamber near the front and rear ends there-l of and at the opposite side from the fire box whereby the gases from the fire box may be direcfed either transversely of the front end of sald chamber, dampcrs in sald chimneys, doors controlling vthe end of the v incinerating chamber and a car for supporting the matenal to be burned movable into and oui,y of the incineratng chamber, lSubstantially as 'set forth.
