WINDOW-SCREEN.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, DANIEL U. MCCOR- MICK, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of Chicago Heights, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in WVindow-Screens, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in window screens and has for its object the provision of a construction of this character which is strong and rigid and capable of economical manufacture.
The invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter de scribed and claimed.
Theinvention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, and in which Figure l is a face view of a screen embodying my invention, Fig. 2, an enlarged detailview of one of the corners of said screen, Fig. 3, an enlarged section taken on line az-a: of Fig. 1, and Fig. 4, an enlarged section taken on line g y of Fig. 1.
The preferred form of construction as illustrated in the drawing comprises four corner sections 1, 2, 3 and 4, said corner sections being made of sheet metal formed into substantially channel form and telescoping with each other to form an adjustable frame as will be readily understood by those skilled in the art. The inner portion of each of the frame sections is formed into a substantially rectangular channel 5 adapted to receive and retain the wire mesh 6. At its outer side each of said frame members is extended out wardly at 7 and then at right angles to form an upstandingportion 8 having a down wardly turned lip thereon. A retaining member 10 is also formed of sheet metal, stamped into substantially rectangular form in cross section which is adapted to enter channel port 5 to retain the screen mesh 6 therein. This retaining member 10 is provided with an outwardly extending portion 11 at its outer side adapted to be secured to portion 7 by means of a bolt 12 taking through a slot 13 as shown. This arrangement constitutes a simple and effective one for the purpose and admits of some longitudinal movement of the retaining members and the corresponding frame members which facilitates assembling of the parts. While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. I, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described my invention what, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A screen comprising a frame made up of metallic frame members channel shaped in cross section, the inner portions of said members being formed into channels and the outer portions thereof being extended outwardly from the outer edges of said channels substantially parallel with the general plane of the screen and then extended at substantially right angles to the general plane of the screen and on the open sides of said channels; and retaining members fitting within said channels, substantially as described.
2. A screen comprising a frame made u of metallic frame members channel shape in cross section, the inner portions of said members being formed into channels and the outer portions thereof being extended outwardly from the outer edges of said channels substantially parallel with the general plane of the screen and then extended at substantially right angles to the general plane of the screen and on the open sides of said channels; retaining members fitting within said channels, the inner portions of said retaining members being formed into channels fitting the channels in said frame members and the outer portions of said retaining members being extended outwardly to fit the outwardly extending portions of said frame members, substantially as described.
3. A screen comprising a frame made up of metallic frame members channel shaped in cross section, the outer portions of said members bein extended outwardly and then at substantial? right angles to the plane of the screen and the inner portions thereof be ing formed into substantially rectangular channels; and retaining members channel shaped in cross section and fitting within said rectangular channels to secure the screen mesh therein, the outer portions of said retaining members being securedto the outwardly extending portions or" said frame members, substantially as described.
4. A screen comprising a frame made up of metallic frame members channel shaped in cross section, the outer portions of said members being extended outwardly and then at substantially right angles to the plane of the screen and the inner portions thereof being vtermed into substantially rectangular channels; and retaining members channel shaped in cross section and fitting within said rectangular channels to secure the screen mesh therein, the outer portions of said retaining.
