W Y T UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRANK BAILEY, OF MINNEAPOLIfi, MINNESOTA.
MAIL-DISTRIBUTING- BASKET.
To all LU/0721, it may concern Be it known that I, FRANK BAILEY, citizen of the United States, residing at Minneapolis, in the county of Hennepin and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mail-Distributing Baskets; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact descrip tion of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it apper tains to make and use the same.
My invention has for its object to provide an improved mail distributing basket, and, to this end, it consists of the novel devices and combinations of devices hereinafter described and defined in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, which illustrate the invention, like characters indicate like parts throughout the several views.
Referring to the drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of the improved basket, some parts being broken away, and some of the exposed parts being shown in section; Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same, some parts being bro-ken away; and Fig. 3 is a transverse vertical section, taken on the line 02 0' of Fig. 2.
The body of the basket has a vertically extended flat blade or partition 1 provided, at its intermediate portion, with a long sleeve 2, within which is rigidly secured the upper end of an upright rod 3 held by a clamp l on the table Z. This clamp 4c is formed with an upright socket 5 adapted to telescopically receive and rotatively hold the lower end of the rod 3. A set screw 6 is provided for locking the rod 3 within the socket 5. This set screw has screw-threaded engagement with the desk clamp l, and its inner end is arranged to impinge against the rod 3. On opposite sides of the blade 1 is secured four sets of upwardly and outwardly inclined shelves 7, each set comprising a plurality of shelves vertically spaced, one above the other. Each shelf 7 is provided, at its inner and outer ends, with a relatively high flange 8 and a relatively low flange 9, re spectively. The flanges S extend the full width of the shelves, while the flanges 9 extend only about one-half of the width thereof.
The shelves 7, as shown, are preferably made detachable, and, hence, provided, at their inner longitudinal edges, with depending flanges 10 that fit in keeper brackets or lugs 11. These keeper lugs 11 are stamped Specification of Letters Patent.

from vertically extended reinforcing bars 12 secured. to opposite sides of the partition 1. At their outer longitudinal edges, the shelves 7 are intermediately cut away, at 13, in order that the letters or papers on the said shelves may be more easily grasped.
When the set screw 6 is loosened, the entire basket is adapted to be swung around in any desired position, and is especially adapt ed to be used by two persons working on op posite sides of the same desk. By independently and detachably mounting the shelves 7, the shelves of one set may be secured in different vertical positions, one above the other. This mounting of the shelves 7 also permit said shelves to be independently re moved from the basket, and the papers filed therein carried from place to place.
From the above description, it is evident that the entire basket may be dismantled and placed within a drawer or other suitable receptacle.
What 1 claim is 1. In a device of the kind described, the combination with a supporting bracket, of a vertical blade rotatively mounted on said bracket, and a pair of reversely inclined shelves supported, one on each side of said blade.
2. In a device of the kind described, the combination with a supporting bracket, of a vertical blade rotatively mounted on said bracket, and a pair of reversely inclined shelves detachably supported, one on each side of said blade.
3. In a device of the kind described, the combination with a supporting bracket, of a vertical blade rotatively mounted on said bracket, and a plurality of reversely inclined shelves detachably supported from opposite sides of said blade, the shelves on one side of said blade being adjustably spaced, one above the other.
1. In a device of the kind described, the combination with a supporting bracket, of a vertical blade intermediately and rotatively mounted on said bracket, and a plurality of reversely inclined shelves supported from opposite sides of said blade.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
FRANK BAILEY.
