UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FREDERICK WILLIAM IBENDEB, OF HOBOKEN, NEW JERSEY; PAULINE IBENDER EXECUTRIX OF SAID FREDERICK WILLIAM IBENDER, DECEASED.
FOUNTAIN-PEN FEED.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 2, 1914.
Application filed August 6, 1910, Serial No. 576,009. Renewed April 14, 1914. Serial No. 831,849;
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDERICK WILLIAM BENDER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hoboken, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented new and useful Improvements in Fountain-Pen Feeds, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to fountain pens and more specifically to feed regulators therefor.
It is an object of my invention to provide a regulator which may be readily and quickly adjusted to different positions to vary the amount of ink fed to the pen by sliding one member inwardly or outwardly as the case may be.
Another object of my invention is to provide a feed for fountain pens which shall have advantages in simplicity, durability and efficiency over those of similar character now in use.
In describing my invention, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings in which like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which,
Figure l is a view in elevation of my invention, Fig. 2 is a similar view taken at right angles, to the view of Fig. l and showing the regulator at the limit of its outward movement. Fig. 3, is a view similar to F ig. 2 showing the regulator pushed inward. Fig. 4, is a detail view in longitudinal section, and Figs. 5 and 6 are also details.
The numeral 1 designates the barrel of a fountain pen, and 2 the cap therefor, both being of usual construction. The pen 3 is set into a member 4, which is approximately round in cross-section but has a groove running longitudinally thereof. The outer end 5 of said member is cut away and formed into a feed quite similar to those now in use, a slot 6 being formed therein.
Longitudinally slidable in the member 4r is a regulator 7, which has a groove 8 extending nearly the entire length thereof, said groove having communication with the slot 6 and forming a conductor for the ink from the reservoir of the pen. The regulator 7 is freely movable under and beyond the member 4: so that the supply of ink may be regulated by varying the position of this member. The member at and regulator 7 at their outer ends are closed for a distance as shown, to permit the variation of the position of regulator 7 so as to regulate the flow of the ink. Notches 9 are provided to enable the user to easily change the position of the feed. In order that said slidable member may be positively guided and prevented from turning, a pin 10 is placed therein, and is operative in the aforementioned groove in the first member.
I desire it to be understood that slight changes in the construction and in the arrangement and combination of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of my invention, provided such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A feed for fountain pens including in combination, a barrel open at one end thereof, a relatively stationary tubular member having a groove formed therein and extending throughout the entire length thereof, the said member being further provided with a slot disposed in communicative relation with the bore of the said member near the forward end thereof, an adjustable regulator member arranged for sliding movement within the bore of the said stationary member, the said regulator being further provided with a longitudinally extending groove communicating the interior of the barrel with the said slot of the stationary member, and a pin carried by the said regulator adapted to fit within and close the groove of the said stationary member and act as a guide for the said regulator member during the adjustment thereof, as and for the purpose set forth.
