Heretofore in the purchasing of pipes it has been customary for the purchaser to try several of the pipes in ,his mouth' before making his choice, thus lncreasing thechances of the spreading of diseases, such as tuberculosis and the like. By the use of .the present invention it is impossible to try the pipes previous to the purchase thereof without-removing 'or damaging the protector, thus insuring the purchaser of the pipe against previous trial. The shorter of the parallel sides of the sheet of material-is provided with a flap which is adapted to entirely cover the terminal of the mouth-piece of the pipe, while the side adjacent to said flap is provided with a ed surface,-as is'one of the adjacent non-parallel sides. Referring" now more particularly to the drawings, 10 indicates a sheet of material trapezoidal in formation, the short side 10' of which is provided with the centrally disposed flap'll, said flap being formed from the sheet of material 10. Theside of the inner surface of the short parallel side 10 is provided with a gummed surface 12, as is oneof the adjacent non-parallel sides 13, which is provided throughout its entire length with the gummed surface 13'. The opposite non-parallel side 14:. is provided with a series of perforations 15, whichare spaced from the edge of said side, andwhich will provide a means for removing the protector from the pipe, as will hereinafter be more fullydescribed. A flexible member 16, preferably ofstring or wire, is secure to the sheet of material 10,. parallel to the nonparallel side 14, and is located directly over the perforations 15. One terminal of the flexible member 16 projects beyond the longer of the parallel sides of the sheet 10, while the opposite terminal thereof is bent inwardly and is located adjacent and parallel to the shorter of the parallel sides 10.

To place the protector heretofore described on the mouth-piece of a pipe the sheet or body portion '10 encircles said mouth-piece in such a manner that the.

The glued surface 12 retains. the flap 11 rigidly over the terminal of the: mouthpiecra A, while the glued surface 13' ,retains the non-parallel edges 13 and 14 of the 'shee 10 in codperative engagement. Referring to the modification illustrctid t e mouth-piece 18 is formed in its flattene condition similarly to the form illustrated in Fig. 2, the only difference being that the modification is constructed of crape paper or other craped material to cause the protector to conform with the shape of the mouth-piece of the'pipe.

It will be understood from the foregoing that the protector embodied herein may be formed from any suitable and antiseptic material, and that minor changes may be made in the construction thereof Without deviating from the spirit of the present invention.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as. new and desire to secure by U. S. Letters Patent is The herein -described mouth piece protector for tobacco pipes, comprising an antiseptic paper casing,- of tubular and tapering form,' said casing having an adhesive appliedlongitudinally at opposite points upon the inner sides thereof and provided with an integral flap at the smaller end, one side of said casing having a series of perforations extending longitudinally thereof, and a severing cord securedto the casing in line with the perforations and provided with an extended end.
