Application filed January E ELL, .1 citizen of the United Stores, residing at New York city, borough of Hamil-attain in the county of New 'iTork end State of her York, have invented cerbein new and useful Improvements in Steam-Boilers, of which the foiiowing is e specification.
The present invention is applicable to boiiers of the type- SilOWll in whi'h there are two or more banks of ver'eicei tubes connecting upper steam and Weber drums with lower water drums, and in which superheater is located iii the dowiiteke pass.
The object of invention is to cause definite portion of the gases flow over and among the superhemfier tubes, and Wiii be understood by reference to the hCCOHlQfi." nying drawing showing a verticei longitudinal section through theboiicr.
Referring to the drawing the numerals 1 and designate upper transverse steam and Water drums coniieetedby banks of straight tubes 3 and i with transverse Weber drums 5 and 6 respectively. in addition to the straight tubes of each bank the bank 3 conoprises a row of tubes 2', and the bank a row of tubes 8, said tubes 7 and 8 being curved or bent at their ends no enter the drums radially. Supported between the tubes 7 and S is a partition iveiior vertieei. baiiie 9. The gases from ihe furnace 1O directed through the uphikc pass in which the tubes 3 end 7 are located. through she passage above the bufi'ie 9 and. then through the dOWIlIZLKdpass, in which the tubes i and 8 are located, to the stack outlet 11. Baffle shelves 12 direct the gas along and across the Water tubes. The drums l and 2 may be connected by the usuzii steam and Water circuietors 13 and 14, and the drums 5 and 6 by the pipe 1.5.
In the doivntake pass is o. superheaier 16 consisting of U-shoped tubes expended inzo cross boxes 1?. These boxes preferabiy ex tend through the side walls and the lower box is connected by pipelS with the steam space of the rear drum 2-. As shown in the drawing, the superheater tubes extend sub stantiaily to the upper end of the baffle 9, mid, to cause a definite portion of the gases Specification of Letters Fatezzt.

to flow over and among we superheeter tubes, 1 provide a. special baiiie 19 of zigzag fO'i'ili, the tiles forming said bafiie resting for side support eiberhateiy against, the superheater tubes and the boiler tubes. This bathe extends from substantiaiiy the upper end of ihesuperheeter to near the steam outiet cross box and is supported by a hiterui member 20, said member being supported. by the boiler setug. The special form of be'iiie, however, is not material, its position and function being the priiicipei feature of the inventiori.
The beiiie 1'9 causes e gooitioii of the gusto be diverted from its natural eourse and caused to flow directly over and among the super-heater tubes. The invention is one which has been precaiceiiy used and its empioymeiii. has resui'sed in .1 higher degree of snperheat with a where it is not used.
W'het 1 claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is 1. A. superheater boiler having two banks of tubes, .1 beiiie betweeh the banks whereby the gases are directed upwardly through the first bank and downwardly through the sec ond bank, a su erheater in the downtake pass, and e befiic betweeirsaid superheater and the tubes of the second benkto divide the flow of the gases into iwo portions one of which bosses over the boiler tubes and the other over end among the superheater tubes.
2. A. su erheeter boiierheving two banks ofiubes, n. beiiie between the bunks whereby the gases are dire-cied upwerdiy through the ,iirstbzink end dovmwzirdiy through the second ban-k, e superheeter in theidowntake pass comprising verticeiiy disposed U- sbaped tubes extending approximately to the upper end of said beflie, and e baiiie between one ieg of the superheater and the tubes of she seemed bank to divide the flow of the gases into two portions one of which passes over the boiier tubes and the other over and among the superheater tubes.
A superheeter boiler having two banks of tubes, 2. beffie bei veen the banks whereby the gases are directed upwardly through the first bank end'downwerdiy through the second bank, a vertical loop superheater in the given superheater than
