It will be noted that the receptacle 22 is normally disposed adjacent to the upright Walls of the boX, and may be conveniently removed and replaced, this being of advantage for sanitary reasons, and on account of the construction as described, a passageway it is provided which extends entirely around said receptacle to permit a 'ree circulation of air. tlso on account ot' the provision ot disk Q6 and its mounting, and the mounting of the secondary levers 25 thereon, the receptacle 2:2 is supported to advantage. Since attachments for weighing ice, as described, would be oit no practical-.advantage unless the weight thereof could be accurately determined, and since a continued strain of the spring would tend to injure or weaken it, means are provided tor preventing any strain or tension of the spring while the lid is closed. rthis may consist, in part, ot a cam 30 which may be mounted upon wall 7 by means of the pivot-pin 3l which is disposed below lever l2 adjacent to aperture llt. Mounted upon wall 7 is a rock lever 32. Upon one otlthe arms of the rock lever is pivotally mounted one end of a li-nk the opposite end of this link being pivotally mounted upon the cam. Upon the other arm of the rock lever is pivotally mounted one end of the link 3ft, its opposite end being pivotally mounted upon bracketl 85, said bracket being mounted upon the lid 10 of the ice boX. The parts are so arranged that when the lid is raised the cam may have a rotatable movement, substantially,'of 180 degrees so that it will not engage lever 12, and the weight of receptacle Q2 and its contents will cause said lever to swing downwardly in aperture 1i subject to the resistance of spring 20at which time said weight may be determined by the index a. A downward swinging movement of the lid, howev'er, will cause reverse movern'ents of the arms ot the rock lever, to that'last described, 4and the` rotatable movement of the cam will cause its periphery to engage lever 12 and will cause the lever to swing upwardly. '.lhe upward swinging movement of said lever will cause rod l5) to move upwardly to terminate the` tension of the spring, and. lever l2 will be in engagement with the cam at all times except when the lid is completely raised. Means are provided tending to prevent the lid from closing and to maintain it in an upright position until manually closed. For this purpose the pivotal mounting for the rock lever consists of the thumb screw 36 in engagement with said rock lever and with block 37, as best shown in Fig. l. By an adjustment ot the thumb screw a pressure ot said screw against the rock lever may be made sulticient in degree to prevent t-he lid from swinging downward from accidental causes, but the lid may be closed by manually grasping it and swinging it downwardly against the force of said pressure.
Means are provided for causing a closure of the aperture it of wall 7 within which lever l2 moves, to thereby prevent an undue `melting of ice. This aperture must be ol: ample size to permit the movements of' link 12 without binding or undue l'riction and a ,closure of'said aperture is therefore necessary. By reference to Fig. 3 it will be seen that the, operation of the rock lever 32 will. cause the cam to be disposed in its lowernost position when the lid l0 is raised, and the operationot these parts is such that when the lid is swung downward or closed, the cuni will be elevated to the position shown by the dotted, circular line; and 'by these means, which operate antonmiically, a closure will be made ot substantially all ot the area ot the aperture, except the space occu` pied by the lever, and this closure ot the aperture will continue while the lid l() remains closed.
