useful Improvements in n Cylinder-Lock Mechanism, of which the following is a full, v clear, and exact description.`
rlhis' invention relates to ycylinder lock mechanism and -provide's,in a device of this character, two actuating mechanisms operable loy keys coperating with the tumbler mechanism of the lock, one ofthese actuating devices being controllable by all of a series of keys used in connection with .the lock, and the other of .said actuating devices normally occupying what is designed to be an inoperative position butbeing movable and operable by a certain keyor keys of the series. Such a construction may be utilized to secure a variety of results, one example of which `is the actuation, through the normally inoperative device, of a -special blocking and unblocking mechanismco'- operating with a bolt-actuating-'mechanism controlled through the other actuating device of the lock.
A preferable embodiment of the invention is described in detail in the following specification taken in connection with the accompanying drawings forming part thereof.
In these drawings, Figure l is a view in side elevation, partly invsection, of a cylinder lock embodying the present invention. Fig. 2 isa view in end elevation of the parts shown in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a view in side elevation of the cylinder lock with the second roll-back thereof by the long key. Fig. 4 is an end elevation of the lock shown in Fig. 3. Fig. 5 is a detail of the first or main roll-back. Fig. 6 is a detail of the second or auxiliary roll-back. Figs. 7 and 8l are, respectively, details of short and long keys respectively, designed to operate respectively the first and secoiid roll-backs.

indicates the usual threaded barrel of a cylinder lock which in practice is screwed into the plate of the lock case to operate'the boltage mechanism therein. This slot extends longitudinally of the cam arm from its outer end to substantially its center where it is decreased in depth, providing a shoulder 4 which rests upon the upper face of the angular end extension 2a of the plug, the lower forward faces of the cam arm being rigidly secured to the end of said 'eX- tension by any suitablemeans as the screws shown. The sidesv of the outer recessed face of this cam adjacent its outer face, are channeled longitudinally, as at 6, to receive the second or auxiliary roll-back. .This cam arm 4 is fixed relatively. to lthe rotatable plig and will always rotate in the .T
arm, which is carried by the first cam arm 4, moves relatively thereto., `as will be seen,
and normally occupies a x-ed position from*l which it may be moved by the means herein-v after'described to assume a second position relative tothe'rst cam arm. This auxiliary roll-back comprises a sliding plate 7 positioned within the outer channeled face of the first roll-.backl and guiding within the channels 6 therein. The upper end of this -plate an outwardly offset end 8 iliary roll-back, which offset projects outwardly from and lies in a different plane from the actuating end of the first 'orpri` lmary roll-back.-
The channel 5 .in the outer face of the first roll-back 4, above the sho-ulder 6, provi-des a pocket 9 having a coiled same arc.v e second or auxiliary roll-back or cam v which engages the cam arm 4 at the upper end of said pocket,
and the other end of which spring is Aadapted to engage a pin 1l carried by and projecting from the inner or rear face of the sliding v plate 7' and projecting through a slot 9a in the front wall of said pocket. The coiled spring l0 acts againstthe pin 11 and normally tends to move the sliding plate 7 downwardly in the channel 6 to position the lower end of said sliding plate below the upper edge of the key hole slot 3 in the rotatable plug so-that said lower edge will be engaged by the forward end of a key and lifted 'against the tension of the coiled spring 10. The end face of the rotatable plug lies within the recessedy face of the cam arm 4 and adjacent and rearwardly of the inner facev ofthe sliding plate 7 of the auxiliary roll-back. y f A series'of keys are" designed tobe used in conjunction vwith such a cylinder lock as I have herein described, these keys being all bitted to ycooperate with the pin. tumblerA mechanism so that the plug 2 may be rotated, and with` it-the primary cam arm or roll-back 4. The auxiliary`rolleback, being lcarried by the primary yroll-back, of necessity rotates with it. The two dierent positions Which this auxiliary roll-back may assume ymayfbe operative and inoperative po sitions relative to a mechanism which it lis designed to operate by means of this auxiliary roll-back. Certain keys of the series used will rotate the primary cam arm 4 with the auxiliary cam armor roll-back carried therebyin ,one of thesetwo'positions. A certain key of the series/ is designed to cooperate With this auxiliary cam arm or rollback to move it tothe other position and. at the same time is operative lto rotate the plug and primary roll-back. This Ais accomplished by utilizing short keys, such as 12 (Fig. 7 for operating the primary cam arm or roll-back 4. .These keys are not long enough to project in and engage their forward beveledends with the sliding plate. so thatwhensueh keys are utilized only the mechanism'v controlled Iby the roll-back` 4 will be operated.v I provide,VJ however, a certain key, such as 13, which I shall term a long key,which long key is bitted to c0- operate' withv the tumbler mechanism so that the primary roll-back 4 can be rotated thereby, and which key. is also of a length suicient to engage its forward beveled end with the lower edge'of`the sliding plate 7 when said key is inserted, to thereby raise said plate and its cam end 8 relativeto the priv.mary cam arm and to a position where it may operate certain special mechanism so that a special key only, such as the long key 13, may control this special ineehanism.
When the long key is withdrawn, the coiled spring 9 will return the auxiliary cam arm or roll-back to its original position,- which may be the inoperative position.

The structure herein described provides a 'engage said movable cam comparatively simple structure for effecting the ends desired. Y By utilizing in connection nwith such a single actuating mechanism an auxiliary cam arm, a double control is provided through a single actuating mechanism and the necessity of providing, for the second control, a separate and auxiliary rollback or its" equivalent, is obviated.
It will be obvious that while I have herein described a particular structural embodiment of the invention, various changes in structure and in the relative arrangement of parts may be made within the spirit of the invention and the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim, therefore, and desire to secure' by Letters `Patent is:
1. As an article of manufacture, a cylinderV lock embodying a key-controlled rotatable plug provided with a relativelyixed roll.- back member, and a second roll-back member carried by and movable relative to the irst. i
`2. As an article of manufacture, a cylinder lock embodying a rotatable plug, a roll-back membercarried by and fixed relatively to said plug and rotating therewith, said plug and roll-back member being controlled and rotatable by a plurality of keys, a second roll-back member carried by the first and mounted forS movement relatively thereto, and means whereby one certain of said plurality of keys may move' said second rollback member relatively to the first and may rotate both of said members simultaneously. 3. :In a cylinder lock, a rotatable plug having a key-slot therein,` a cam rigidly cai*- ried thereby, tumbler mechanism coperating withs'aid plug and operable by a plurality of keys topermit rotation of said plug and cam, a second cam carried by said plug, movable relativelythereto and positioned in aldiferent plane from said fixed cam, means normally positioning said movable cam in the line of said key-slot, -oneof said plurality of tumbler.- operating keys being arranged to to .move it relatiyely to said plug. v

5. As an article of manufacture, a cylinder lock provided with a key-actuated rollback member andan auxiliary roll-back member carriedpthereby and movable rela-t tively thereto, saidroll-back members being arranged to coact simultaneously with a certain key.v
6. In a cylinder lock, a rotatable plug having a key-slot therein, a cam arm rigidly Carried by said plug, tumbler mechanism coperat-ing Wit-h said plug and operable .by a plurality of keys to permit rotation of said plug and cam arm, a second and auxiliary arm carried by and positioned in a different plane from said rigidly carried arm,means normally tending to hold Said auxiliary cam position, and means whereby a ofsaid plurality of keys may arm in one certain key operate said tumbler mechanism and may 15 move said auxiliary cam arm from 'such position and relatively to said rigidly carried cam arm, and may rotate said cam arms simultaneously.
