. tain new and useful improvements in Stub Adjusting` and Ejecting Cigarette-Holders,
whereof the following is a specification.
This" invention relates to a cigarette holder for use' in smoking cigarettes and the like..
The object of the invention is to provide a simple, cheap and convenient cigarette holder adjustable to different holding positions to enable the cigarette to be `almost wholly consumed before ejectment.
Figure l of the accompanying drawings represents a perspective View of this cigarette holder, a fragment being broken out. Fig. 2 is a view partly in side elevation and partly in longitudinal section, showing the sleeve slightly drawn backward on the'smoking stub. Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 2 showing the holding sleeve drawn farther'` backward on the smoking stub and indicatingi'n dotted lines the falling ejected stub. Fig. 4 represents a transverse section on line 4-4 of Fig. 2. p s J The same reference numbers indicate corresponding parts in the different figures.
This Adevice comprises a tubular mduthpiece 10, a sliding extension sleeve 20 .thereon, and frictional holding means on said members. By this vfrictional holding means one member is readily adjustable into various holding positions with respect to the other member, whereby a, partially consumed cigarette, stogy or cigar may be thrust outward step by step and held until almost completely consumed and then remnants of a stub ejected from the holder.
. The mouthpiece l0 constructed of wood, horn7 amber or other suitable material, and preferably in cylindrical form, is provided as usual with an outward flange or lip 1l at its tapered inner endA `This mouthpiece is also provided with lateral studs l2 and 13, which are preferably integral with a crossbar 14- which extends diametrically through the mouthpiece. These studs are preferably provided with rounded heads, which may -be upset at the ends ot' the bar 14 after its insertion in the transverse apertures of the mouthpiece.
The sliding sleeve 2O iscomposed of thin sheet metal-silver, German silver or other .28. The sleeve is provided ai: it'A ai fis slightly drawn back on the mouthpiece suitable 1naicrial--,and constructed to lit and slide on the mouthpiece 10. rl`his sleeve 20 is preferably provided at its out 'end with a bead 2l concave on it. which forms a circumfere i tion with longitudinal slots .2.2 and 23j will. are engaged by the studs l2 and mouthpiece l0. The slot has roun` largements 24 and 25 at its opposite ends 'forming lips 26 and 27 between them. llie slot 23 is of similar construction. hese lips are more or less springy or elastic and form a frictional grip on the studs to hold the sleeve in its adjusted position and yet permit it to be moved freely on the slides when a slight force is applied to it. @ne oi: the slots and one of the studs may be omitted but two are preferable.
In the use of this device in the stitching of a cigarette or analogous article, the sleeve 2O is projected outward on the mouthpiece 10 until the studs 12 and 13 engage the slots 22 and 23 at the inner ends thereof. Then one end of tlietci arette-is placed in the projecting portion'o the sleeve 20 down against the outer end Foffthe mouthpiece l0. Alter ignition, ssj-the consuming tire approaches the inner 'endog thecigarette, the'sleeve 20 Vl() exposino' more o the unconsumed stub as indicated in Fig. 2, the friction'oi the members maintaining the parts inf ,holding position. As more of the stub is consumedv the sleeve is drawn farther back as indie cated in Fig and almost the entire stub will be consumed. 'llh'e circumferential lip 28 aids in holding the'` shortstub when pushed far forward as shown in Fig. 3. rlhen a final push of vthe mouthpiece will eject the' remnant ofthe stub.
The term cigarette holdea` as used in the claims is intended to include any equivalent thereof adapted tohold stogies, cigars or the like.
I claim as my invention:`
l. A cigarette holder comprising a sliding extension sleeve having a longitudinal slot, and a tubular mouthpiece having a lateral stud engaging said slot, said sleeve being adapted to hold the cigarette and said monthn piece being arranged to abut at its 'forward end the inner end of the cigarette and being movable under irictionsl resistance to er;k trude the stub thereof and permit to be smoked at dilerent stages of adjustment and with a longitudinal slot; the sides of substantially to the end thereof which abuts i whic'h form a frictional holding Contact with 10 said mouthpieoe. 1d b l said stud.
2. A cigarette ho er comprising a. tu u ar l T i mouthpieceprovided with a lateral stud, and EDITH BAN ('ROT. ASHMORE' a sliding extension sleeve on saidv mouthpiece i Witnesses: provided with a conave bead at its outer I ALBERT T. HANBY, end forming a4 circumferential holding lip HENRY J. SCOTT.
