BOBBIN FOR USE IN GONNBGTION WITH THE MANUFACTURE OF ARTIFICIAL SILK.

HUGO KI TTTNEB, 0F PIBCN'A, GERMANY.
I B OBIBIN FOR USE IN CONNEGTIONWI'IH. THE MANUFACTURE OF ARTIFliGIAL SILK.
Specification of lietters Patent. 2 Patented Mar. 17, 1914.
Application filed J'anuary 2, 1913. Serial no. 739,717,
To all whomit may concern:
Be it known that I, 'Hueo Kiir'rnnn, manufacturer, a subject of the German Emperor, and residing at Pirna, Saxony, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements -in and Relating to Bobbins quent ly placed in a washing or rinsing fluid, and then conveyed into a drying chamber and so forth, it not astonishing they become deformed in quite a short space as time and receive many dents, bulges and the rather considerable.
like. These deformations'in their of course affect the uniform quality of the that the consumption of .the bobbins is Further the bobbins thread manufactured, apart from the fact,-
' become cracked and the'substances of the precipitating baths .collect in these cracks wher'e th ey remain even after the washing and rmsmg process, and thu's da'magethe thread during dryings, which damage particularlyconsid'erable if acid ingredients I of the'pre'cipitating baths are lodged in. said cracks. .In order to remove these drawbacks it has already been suggested to make the bobbin from metal, for instance aluminium, as other metals cannot be employed as practically all of them are not capable of resisting the action of'acids and are moreover comparatively heavy. Even aluminium, however, does not answer the purpose completely, .since the outer surface of such an aluminium bobbin on which the thread is wound, is liable to oxidation which causes the thread to adhere to the surface of the bobbin thus causing it to tearwhenun- I This invention consists in a bobbin comprising an, inner metallic core (preferably aluminium) and an outer cardboard shell preferably provided with a coating of lacquer.
A bobbin constructed in accordance with this invention is shown in section by way of. example in the accompanying As shown inthe drawing, an outer carddrawings.
board cylinder 6 is slipped over an inner metal cylinderu. This arrangement is so eminently adapted for removing the above mentioned. drawbacks that the employment 7 pf the improved bobbin is of the I greatest Importance for the continuity of the manufacturing process.
Having now'described my invention what I claima's new and desire to secure by'Letters Patent is: v
j 1. A bobbin for use in connection with the manufacture of artificial silk comprising an and economy inner cylinder of aluminum, and an outer.
cylinder of cardboard -completely covering the outer surface of the aluminum cylinder and secured thereto whereby thesaid outer surface is protected against. oxidation and other chemical attack, the ends of both cylindersbeing substantially flush.
2'. A bobbinfor use" in connection with the manufacture of artificial silk comprising an inner cylinder-of aluminum-,an outer cylinder of cardboard completely covering the outer surface of the aluminum cylinder and secured thereto. whereby the said outer surface is protected against oxidation and other chemical attack; the ends of bot-h'cylinders being substantially flush and; a coat g of lacquer on the outer surface of said outer. cylinder. 1
In testimony whereof I. aflix my signature in presence. ofv two witnesses.
HUGO KllTTNER.
