HUGH E. SHEDD, OF MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA.
CHANGEAIBLE EXHIBITOR.
noeaaei.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 24, 1914.
Application filed .Tune 11, 1913. Serial No. 773,077.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, HUGH E. SHEDD, citizen of the United States, residing at Minneapolis, in the county of Hennepin and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Changeable Exhibitors; and 1 do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and eXact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or iigures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to changeable eX- hibitors, and more particularly to that class of exhibitors adapted to be used in the household to readily indicate which of the necessary articles of the household need re plenishing.
rllhe object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which shall be inexpensive, durable and useful.
A further object oi this invention is to provide a device of this character which shall be composed of a minimum of parts, and which shall combine with the exhibitor an advertising device.
With these and other objects in view this invention consists in the peculiar arrangement and construction of the parts of a changeable exhibitor as hereinafter described and more particularly pointed out in the claims.
Referring to the drawings, wherein similar reference numerals indicate similar parts wherever used, Figure l is a front elevation of the device. Fig. 2 is an enlarged view of a portion of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a vertical section on line 3 3 of Fig. 2. Fig. L1 is a horizontal section on line ,1 -1 of Fig. 8. Fig. 5 is a perspective view of one of the sliding plates detached.
The device comprises a front face or plate G, provided with a plurality of vertically extending openings 7 7, and adapted to receive advertising matter or directions upon the space 8. Secured to the rear of the front plate 6 is a rear plate 9. Formed in the rear plate 9, by a die-press or any other suitable means are a series of depressions 10, formed with partitions 11, 11 therebetween and corresponding in height to the depth of the depression 10. Slidingly mountedl within the depressions 10, are small rectangular plates 19., 12. Each of the plates are divided into approximately equal areas 13-111, and the sa1d areas colored in some sharply contrasting color, as red and white, the area 13 being white and the area 14 being red.
Adjacent the line of contrasting color upon the plates 12, is a small aperture 15.
The plates are assembled within the depressions 10, and the rear plate 9 secured to the faceplate 6, whereupon the sliding plates 12 will be visible through the aperture 7 of said plate 6. Adjacent each one of the sliding plates and upon the outer plate 6, is placed in any suitable manner the name of one of the various household commodities, such as alum, baking powder, barley, bread, etc. When any of these articles enumerated upon the device are in stock, the plate is slid by means of a pencil point or other sharp instrument being inserted in the aperture 15, in the depression until only the white area 13, is visible through the open ing 7. Should any of the articles be needed, the plate opposite the name of such article is slid to show the red area 14, through the aperture 7, this indicating at once by the contrast of color which of the articles are needed.
Considerable variation of the specific details of the invention may be practised without departing from the spirit thereof.
Vihat I claim is:
1. In a changeable exhibitor, the combination with a `front plate having an aperture therein, of a rear plate secured to said front plate, said rear plate being provided with a series of depressions, a series of integral struck up partitions dividing said depressions, said series of partitions and depressions being located underneath the aperture of the said front plate, sliding plates in said depressions and guided by said partitio-ns, an area of color on each ci" said plates, an area of sharply contrasting color upon each of said plates adjacent said iirst mentioned area, and means i'oi causing one or the other ot said areas of color to register with the aperture of said front plate.
2. A device of the character described, comprising a base having stamped therein a plurality of spaced apart depressions, a plurality of strips having data thereon, and mounted to slide in the depressions, each strip being shorter than its respective depression, and a sheet secured on the base and formed with a slot located over the depressions to expose the strips, said sheet LIM serving to retain the strips in the depressions.
3. A device of the character described, comprising a base plate formed with a plurality of vertically spaced apart horizontal depressions stamped therein, the ends of the depressions being closed, a front plate formed with a vertical opening which eX- tends across the horizontal depressions, the said depressions extending some distance beyond the two side walls of the opening in the front plate, and plates in the depressions, said plates being shorter than the depressions, and each plate having two areas of contrasting colors whereby any particular plate may slide to the right or left to expose one of the respective color areas through the slot in the front plate.
In testimony whereof I have signed my naine to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
HUGH E. SHEDD.
