Description

aw/W R. L. LE WRIGHT.-
NON-BEFILLABLB BOTTLE. APPLIOA QN FILED MAY 15', 1913.
WITNESSES INVENTOR S; PATENT OFF CE- Y Bowman n wnrenr, on NEW DUPFTHQMISNESOTAJ NON-REFILLABLEBOTTLE;
Specification of Lettersil atent.
Application filed May 15, 1913-. Serial No. 767,873.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ROY LEE Lu Wmdrrr, a citizen of the United Stateso'f America, residing at New Duluth, in the county of St. Louis and State [of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Non-Refillable Bottles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to non-refillable bottles and 'has for its object the production of a simplea'nd eflicient means for preventing the bottle from being refilled by unauthorized persons.
Another ob ect of this invention is the production of a stopper which is provided withjefiicient means for closing the neck portion of the bottle after the same has been 1 filled.
With these and other objects in view, this invention consists'of certain novel combinations, constructions and arrangements of parts as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawing: Figure 1 is a central vertical section taken through the neck of the bottle showing the stopper in position. Fig. 2 is a section taken on' line 2 -2 of Fig. 1. Fig; 3 is a perspective view of the stopper. Fig. 4 is a section taken on line 44 of Fig. 1. Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the spring member used in connection with the stopper. Fig. 6 is aside elevation of a tool which is adapted to break the neck of the bottle.
Referring to the accompanying drawing by numerals, 1 indicates a bottle which is provided with a neck 2, this neck 2 being provided with a circumferential groove 3 for allowing the neck to be easily broken from the body. The neck 2 is provided with a plurality of'oppositely disposed channels 4 3 and notches 5. The upper portion of this neck 2 is provided with an inner beveled por tion 6 for allowing the stopper member to be easily inserted into the neck.
The stopper member comprises a body 7 having an integral head 8, having the circumferential groove 9'into which the upper portion ofthe neck 2 is adapted to fit. The body 7 is provided upon its 'side portions with squared ribs 10 which are adapted to be positioned within the channels-4 while the inner portion of the body 7 is provided with an elongated rectangular pocket 11. A
coiled spring 12 having diverging arms 13 filled at which time the cork stopper '16 is positioned within the inner neck 16. This inner neck 16 extends evenly with the upper portion of the cork 16 and for a distance above thegroove 3. By forming this inner neck 16 in this manner it will also be formed at a spaced distance from the inner sides of the neck 2 and inner neck 16. When the neck 2 is broken away it will break at the groove-3, and since. the inner neck 16 extends for considerable distance beyond this groove there will be no danger of! particles of glass falling into theinner portion of the bottle. It will also be seen that by forming this inner neck a comparatively long neck will be left after the main neck has been broken away, the neck 16 constituting a means for allowing the free pasthe bottle. The stopper member is then inserted into the neck until the lips 14 ride upon thebeveled portion 6 at which time the spring is compressed. ,The stopper'passes upwardly until the lips 14 restwithin the notches 5 at which time the stopper is locked in the neck ofthe bottle. The head 8 rests squarely upon the upper portion of the neck and in this manner forms a tight closure for the upper portion of the neck while the squared ribs '10 rest in the channels 4 and constitute an efiicient means for preventing the rotation of the stopper within the -neck and'in this manner prevents .the lips 14 from the ribs were not used, by twisting the stopupon the sides of the notches 5 and would compress the spring so as to allow the lips 14 to become disengaged from the pockets wherebythe stopper may easily be removed from engagement with the neck.
When it is desired to break the neck, the tool maybe used which comprises the handle 17 and hammer 18. This handle 17 carries at its opposite end the curved body 19 having a glass cutting wheel 20. By positioning this portion 19 around the. neckof the bottle groove 3, the tool may be twisted-around the Patented Feb. 17, 1914.
WVhen this-device is used, the bottle is first sage of the liquid which is contained within becoming disengaged with the notches 5. If l per within the neck, the lips'1'4 would strike and allowing the wheel 20 to ride'within the neck several times so as to out the neck, at
plished, the inner neck16. will carry the cork stopper 16 and will form an efiicient closure for the bottle, and since the upper portion of the neck has been broken away any unauthorized filling of the bottle could be easily detected, since the upper portion of the bottle would be missing.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, is: a
A nonrefillable bottle comprising a body, a neck carried by said body, said neck provided with a circumferential groove for allowing the neck to be easily broken, said neckprovided with oppositely arranged channels, and also with notched portions, a stopper comprising a body and an integral head formed upon said body, said body provided with a plurality of squared ribs upon its side portions, said body also provided with an elongated rectangular pocket and with a plurality of guiding apertures com municating with said rectangular pocket, a spring comprising a pair of diverging arms terminating in laterally bent lips positioned within said pocket, said lips projecting through said apertures and adapted to engage said notched portions of said neck for holding said stopper within said neck, said rib constituting a means for preventing the stopper from rotating within said neck, said head provided with a groove and adapted to fit snugly upon the upper portion of the neck for forming a tight closure for the neck.
In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ROY LEE LE WRIGHT.
