POST-FULLER.
To a?! QUILOHZ it may concern Be it known that I, Eowwno Dom, a citizen ot the United States of America, resids ing at lGdholm, in the county of Butler and State of Nebraska, have invented new and useful flmprrwements in Post- Pullers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in post or pole pullers and has particular application to a manually operable pulling device for removing 'tejnce posts and the like from the earth.
In carrying out the present invention, it is my purpose to provide a post or pole puller which will embody in its construction among other features a pair of jaws each formed of a single length of rod or the like bent intermediate its length to form a bandle, thence extemled laterally and downwardly and having the downwardly extended portions curved to form a yoke designed to straddle or embrace the post or pole, the tree tern'iinals ot the limbs of such yokes being pivotally connected to each other, while the contronting edges of the laterally projectii'ig portions :torm gripping jaws designed to grip the material of the post or pole.
It is also my purpose to provide a device of the class described which will emln'are the desired features of simplicity, etlicieney, durability and strength coupled with chcapness of cost in manufacture and marketing and which may be conveniently and readily opera ted.
lVith the above and other objects in View, the invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter set forth in and falling within the scope of the claim.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 a top plan view oi. a post puller constructed in accordance with the present invention. Fig. 2 is a view in side elevation of the same, and Fig. 3 is an enlarged perspective View of one of the members of the device.
Referring now to the accompanying nate companion members forming my im- Spccification of Letters Patent.
Application filed June 10, 1913.
proved post or pole puller, each of such members being termed ol. a single length of iron rod bent upon itself lllliOl'lnCtlltllOdl'S ends as at 2 to Form a handle 3, thence extended laterally as at t, L and projected down 'ardly as at 5, 5, the downwardly projecting prn'tions being curved and forming with the laterally projecting portions a yoke. The tree terminals of the limbs of the yokes, so :t'ormed, are formed with alining apertures to receive pivot pins 6. It will be noted that these yokes, when the members are assembled, enable the device as a whole to be lowered on a pole or post, as clearly illustrated in Fig. 1. \Vhen the device is applied to the pole or post, the handles 3 extend outwardly so that; they may be readily grasped by the operator, while the confronting sides ot the laterally extended portions 4-. {1- of the members effectively grip the adjacmit portion of the pole so that when an upward pull is exerted upon the members the pole or post is extracted from the earth.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, the construction, mode of operation and manner of employing my invention will be readily apparent. when it is desired to extract a post or pole from the earth, the members 1, 1 are swung about their pivotal connections so as to open the device, whereby the latter may be slipped onto the post. \Vhen the device has reached the desired position upon the pole, the members 1, 1 are swung inwardly or toward each other so that the laterally extending portions thereof forming the jaws grip the pole, an up ward pressure on the handles serving to elevate the pole. To obtain a fresh grip upon the pole, the pressure is relieved from the handle members thereby permitting the members 1, 1 to swing to an open position whereby the device may be lowered and a fresh grip obtained.
I claim:
A device of the class described comprising companion members, each formed of a single length of iron rod bent upon itself intermecliate of its ends to form a handle, and thence extended laterally and projected downwardly, the downwardly projecting portions being curved and forming with the let- 5 oral projecting portions a yoke, and pivotal connections between the free extremities of the yokes so formed.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
EDXVARD DUDA.
