I-IORSESHOE.
T0 (ZZZ whom 2'15 may concern:
Be it known that I, THEODORE CHRISTIAN AMOTH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Madison, in the county of Dane and State of IVisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Horseshoes, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in horseshoes of particular shape for certain ailments of the foot, and the objects of my improvement are, first, to form a shoe so that the pressure is removed from sore or weak spots, such as corns and applied to sound portions of the foot; and second to provide a means for holding medicated pads between the shoe and the affected parts of the foot. I attain these objects by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which- Figure 1, is a view of the bottom of my shoe showing the convex surface of the arches (Z, (Z. Fig. 2, is a right side elevation. Fig. 3, is a section through the arches (Z (Z, on line A B, Fig. 1, and Fig. 4, is a right side elevation showing calks, f f, screwed int-o the shoe.
Similar letters refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
The shoe, (Z, is an ordinary bar shoe curved downward forming arches, (Z(Z, just forward of the bar, Z), for a sufiicient distance to span a corn or corns, which are usually situated Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed September 29, 1913.
Patented Dec. 16, 1913.
Serial No. 792,503.
near the heel on a horses foot, so that there is no bearing of the shoe on the corns the weight being borne on the toe and frog of the foot by means of the bar, 6, which is rounded at the corners, c. The said arches, (Z (Z, are drilled and threaded at their crown to receive the calks, f, in case of icy or slippery roads and are also beveled from the center on the concave side forming the center rib, e, which prevents gravel or foreign substances remaining in the arch to irritate the affected parts, and also providing means for securely holding a piece of felt or medicated pad between the arch and the hoof. The calks can also be attached to the forward part of the shoe when desired.
Having thus fully described my invention what I claim as new and my own is:
In a horseshoe of common form, a bar connecting the sides at the heel, the sides curving downward, forward of and adjacent to the said bar, the curved portions bevel ed from the center outward and inward form-- ing a rib, a threaded hole through the crown of the curved portions for the purposes described and set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
THEODORE CHRISTIAN AMOTH.
