UNTTED STA'IEQQ PATENT UFFICE.
JAMES 'W. HARMON, OF LAWBENCEBURG, TENNESSEE.
SHOE AND GLOVE FASTENER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that L JAMES W. Harmon, a citizen of the United States residing at lLawrenceburg, in the county of Lawrence and State of Tennessee have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shoe and Glove Fasteners, of which the following is a specification reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to buttons which are used for securing shoes, gloves, or any other suitable article.
The object of this invention is the production of an in'uoroved stem having an improved base plate and eye for connecting the stem to the glove.
This invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 is a section along the line AA of Fig. 2. Fig. 2 is a section along the line BB in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of one form of stem.
Referring to the accompanying drawings it will be seen that this invention comprises a button 10 which has an enlarged head and a securing plate 11. The head 10 is provided with central opening 12 forming a socket with a slot 13 leading from the side of the head and communicating with the socket 12. The lock comprises a plate 14- whieh is pivotally mounted upon a pin 15 positioned in the opening 16. The plate is substantially semicircular in shape so that it will fit snugly within the slot 13, and is provided with a nose 17 which extends beyond the head so that the plate may be swung to the position shown in Fig. 5 when it is desired to release the stem.
The stem is provided with a reduced central portion 19 forming a head 20. A plate Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed March 26, 1912.
Patented Dec. 9, 1913.
Serial No. 6%,234.
21 is positioned at the lower end of the stem 18 and CHI'I'lQS an eye 22 so that the stem may be secured to the glove. This eye is substantially rectangular in shape and is positioned in spaced relation to the plate so that the glove may he provided with a slot through which the eye is passed. The stem is then turned so that the eye extends crosswise ot the slot and after the slot has been sewed up and the eye sewed to the glove, it will be impossible for the stem to break loose.
From an inspection of 2 it will be seen that this stem. is inserted in the socket -12 while the plate is in theposition shown in l 5, and the plate is then turned to the position shown in Figs. 1 and 2, so that the plate is positioned beneath the head 20 thus making it impossible to withdraw the stem from the head without first swinging the plate outwardly. lt will be seen that the button cannot accidentally come undone.
What is claimed is In a device of the character describech a head, a stem therefor, a base plate at the bottom of said stem, and a narrow elongated securing eye beneath said base plate formed from a strip of? material bent to form the body portion of the eye of less length than the dian'ietcr of the base plate and having its end portions bent to form a contracted neck connected with said base plate and holding the end portions oi said eye in spaced relations to said base.
In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
