Description
A. L. LARSEN.
POISON BOTTLE.
APPLICATION FILED MAR.21,1913.

UITE STATES BATENT OFFICE.
AXEL L. LABSEN, OF ST. PAUL, MINNESOTA.
POISON-BOTTLE.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, AXEL L. LAnsnN, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Paul, in the county of Ramsey and State of Minnesota, have invented new and useful Improvements in Poison-Bottles, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to poison bottles; and it has for its object the provision of an audible signal which can be arranged on the bottle, so as to be disturbed when the latter is handled and thereby cause a sounding of the alarm and indicate to the user that the bottle contains a poisonous or dangerous drug.
Another object of the invention is the provision of an alarm attachment for poison bottles which may be readily connected with bottles of any standard construction.
With these and other objects in. view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction combination and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings :Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device, showin the application of the same to a bottle; Fig. 2 is a vertical section therethrough; and Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the device detached from the bottle.
The device comprises an attaching member 1 which is referably in the form of a flat resilient split band which may be made of a size with particular regard to the external diameter of a bottle neck, so as to ac curately accommodate itself thereto and thereby properly sustain the alarm or sound ing means in operative position.
The attaching device 1 is provided with an arm 2, which may be constructed of flat sheet metal bent upon itself at one end as at 3 so as to provide parallel connecting portions 4, between which the attaching member 1 may be engaged and soldered or otherwise secured in place in any suitable obvious manner. The arm 2 extends upwardly, as at 5, away from the attaching member 1 and it is terminally extended downwardly, as at 6, and riveted or otherwise suitably secured at 7 to a bell or similar sounding device or alarm means 8. The portion 9 of the Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed March 21, 1913.
Patented Dec. 2, 1913.
Serial No. 756,029.
Incident to the relative positions of the several parts of the device as described, it is evident that the hell 8 is normally sustained in a vertical position at one side of the bottle neck and that the arm 11 is arranged normally in a perpendicular position with the metallic object 12 thereof spaced from the walls of the bell. This construction is such that when the bottle is disturbed in any way or canted. the flexible arm 11 will be in stantly influenced. and. as a consequence, the metallic object 12 thereof will be brought into sounding contact with the bell, so as to give the desired alarm and consequently indicate to the user that the bottle contains a dangerous or poisonous drug or substance.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the inven-' tion will be readily understood without rcquiring a more extended explanation.
Various changes in the form, proportion and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention, as claimed.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is An alarm for poison bottles comprising an elastic attaching member, an arm secured to and extending from the attaching member, a bell secured to one terminal of the arm, a rubber element depending from the arm and located within the bell and a metallic sounding object carried by said element.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
AXEL L. LARSEN.
