CHECKREIN FASTENFR OR HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed. October 3, 1910. Serial No. 585,143.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAPHET S. CUsso-N, a citizen of the United States, residing at De Kalb, in the county of Dekalb and State of Illinois have invented a new and useful Checkrein Fastener or Holder, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to check rein hooks, and it has fo its object the construction of a device of this character of simple construction and inexpensive in cost of manufacture, and which will permit of the ready placing of the check rein thereover, and will effectively prevent its accidental displacement therefrom. a
In the accompanying drawing illustrating my invention, Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved device, that portion of the harness to which the same is attached being shown in section; Figs. 2 and 3 are side and front views, respectively, of the de vice, and Fig. 4 is a view ofthering forming a part thereof.
5 designates the back pad of a harness and 6 the saddle piece thereon having the usual leather covering.
7 is a bolt extending through an opening formed in the parts 5 and 6 of the harness, and having a threaded lower portion adapted to receive a nut 8. The said bolt is formed integral with the post 9, the upper portion of which inclines rearwardly relative to the axis of said bolt. The said post is provided with a base 10 extending forwardly from the bolt and provided with a downwardly inclined front portion forming a lip 11 and having a recess 12 in its under side forming a seat for a ring 13 which works therein. Said ring is preferably made with a flattened base portion 14 which lies in the recess 12. The lip 11 which, as stated, extends downwardly, is caused to bite into the surface of the leather covering the saddle piece 6 by the pressure exerted by the forward pull of the check rein 15.
In the operation of my device the check rein 15 is passed through the ring 13, and its loop then passed over the post 9 where the ring holds it securely in place. The extended base of the post and its downwardly inclined lip portion 11, in connection with the securing bolt 7 give to the post, as will be seen, two bearing points which effectively prevent any rocking, and consequent loosening of the post, due to the pull thereon of the check rein. It will be noted that the part of the harness to which my device is applied forms the bottom or closure of the recess 12, and thus holds the ring 13 within such recess.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
. 1. A check rein holder comprising a bolt, a post extending from the bolt and inclined rearwardly relative to the axis thereof, said post having a base extending forwardly from the bolt, and having a recess in its under side, and a ring working in said recess.
2. A check rein holder comprising a bolt, a post extending from the bolt and inclined rearwardly relative to the axis thereof, said post having a base extending forwardly fromthe bolt, and having a recess in its under side, said base being downwardly inclined' forwardly of said recess to form a downwardly inclined lip, and a ring engaging in said recess.
