LAMP-BURNER.
lecting air from between the crown member of the burner and the chimney, and directin g the air to within the said crown member, wings extending below and above the horizontal tubes at each side of the wick tube, for directing the air from the horizontal tubes to the wick. In this way thetemperature within the crown member is maintained, and is not reduced by cold air from below the burner. With the improved burner a brighter light is'obtained, while, atthe same" time, there is a considerable saving in the use of oil.
Additional objects of the invention will appear in the following complete specification, in which the preferred form of the invention is disclosed.
In the drawings similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views, in which Figure 1 is a side sectional elevation of my improved burner; Fig. 2 is a sectional view on the line 2-2 of 1; Fig. 3 is a sectional view on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1; and Fig. 41 is a perspective view of one of the horizontal tubes with the wings.
By referring to the drawings it will be seen that a lamp burner is provided, with the usual crown member 5, and that the usual wick tube 6 is disposed within this crown member 5. The crown member 5 has openings 7 in its side portions, through which extend the terminals 8 of the horizon tal tubes 9, these horizontal tubes 9 being disposed parallel with, and one at each side of, the wick tube 6. As shown in Fig. 4 of the drawings there are openings 10 in the bottom of the horizontal tubes 9, there being depending wings 11 which extend downward from the tubes 9 at the outer sides of these openings 10. There are also wings 12 which extend upwardly from the horizontal tubes 9. As the terminals 8 of the horizontal tubes 9 are open, the heated air from between the crown member 5 and the chimney 18 is permitted to pass into the horizontal tubes 9, and into the openings 10,

where it is directed upwardly at each side and above the wick tube 6, by the wings 11 and 12. In this way the flame is fed with a quantity of heated air, which greatly improves the quality of the flame, while saving the oil, and making possible a more I complete combustion.
It will be seen by referring to Fig. 4 of the drawings that the tube 9 and thewings 1.1 and 152 are constructed in the following manner: A member 1 1- is provided, the upper portion of which forms the wing 12, this member 141'being bent at the portion 15, to form the tube 9, having the openings 10, in its bottom. The other member 16 has a portion 17, bent over the tube portion 9 of the member 1 1', and this member 16 is also provided with the lugs 18', which are disposed in the end openings 10 in the tube portion 9 of the member 1 1, to hold the member 16 in position relatively to the member 141. The lower portion of this member 13 forms the wing 11.
Having thus described my invention I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. In a lamp burner having a crown member with an opening in its side, a hori zontal tube extending through the opening, the tube within the crown member having openings along its length for discharging air at different points, and a wing for directing air within the crown member from the openings in the tube.
2. In a lamp burner having a crown member with an opening, a tube extending through the opening and having within the crown member openings along its length for discharging air at different points, and a wing for directing air within the crown member from the openings in the tube.
3. In a lamp burner having a crown member with an opening in its side, a horizontal tube disposed through the opening and having an opening within the crown member, and a wing on the horizontal tube disposed at the outer side of the last-mentioned opening.
4. In a lamp burner, a crown member having an opening through its side, a wick tube within the crown member, a horizontal tube disposed through the opening and having an opening in its side within the crown member, and means on the horizontal tube for directing air therefrom to and above the wick tube.
5. In a lamp burner, a crown member having an opening through its side, a Wick tube within the crown member, a horizontal tube disposed through the opening and having an opening in its bottom, a depending wing from the horizontal tube at the outer side of the opening therein, and a wing extending up from the horizontal tube.
6. In a lamp burner, a crown having openings in its sides, a wick tube within the crown member, two horizontal tubes extending through the openings in the sides of the crown member, the horizontal tubes being disposed one at each side of the wick tube, and having openings in their bottom, and depending wings from the horizontal tubes at the outer sides of the openings therein.
7 In a lamp burner, a crown member having openings in its sides, a wick tube within the crown member, two horizontal tubes extending through the openings in the sides of the crown member, the horizontal tubes being disposed one at each side of the wick tube and each having openings in its bottom, and depending wings from the horizontal tubes at the outer sides of the openings therein, and wings extending upward from the horizontal tubes.
8. In a lamp burner, a crown member having openings, a wick tube within the crown member, two tubes extending through the openings in the crown member, and having depending wings, the tubes being disposed one at each sideof the wick tube and having openings within the crown member at the inner sides of the wings.
9. In a lamp burner, a member having an extending portion forming a wing and a bent portion forming a tube, there being openings in the tube, and a second member having an extending portion forming a wing, and a portion bent over the tube portion of the first member, and a lug on the second member extending into an opening in the first member.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
