FRANK Z. HUSAR, OF CHICAGQILLINOIS.
ABDOMINAL SUPPORTER.
To all 'whom may concern Be it known that I, FRANK Z. HUSAR, a former subject of the Emperor of Austria- Hungary, who have declared my intentlon of becoming a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Abdominal Supporters, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to abdominal supporters and the object of my improvement is the production of a device of the character mentioned which presents a soft yielding surface to the skin of the wearer, has independent adjustable lift-up straps across its face and provided with thigh straps at its lower edge.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
The invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, and in which- Figure 1 is a front view of a device embodying my invention and indicating it in position on a wearer, Fig. 2 is a back view of the same, and Fig. 3 is a. section taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 2, with the device positioned in circular form.
The preferred form of construction as illustrated in the drawing comprises a soft flexible band 4, of any suitable material suoli as knitted fabric, tricot cloth, or the like, open at the back and having ends 5 of non-yielding fabric, or other material secured thereto. The ends 5 are connected by a lacing 6 laced in perforations 7 therein and a soft flexible tongue 7 is secured to one end 5 and extended under the lacing 6 to present a soft surface to the wearer.
Disposed on the outer surface of the band 4 are a plurality of elongated sheets 8 of yielding non-elastic material, secured at their central portions to the front of said band 4 by stitchings 9. Any desired number of elongated sheets 8 may be used and disposed across the Width of the band 4. A reinforcement 10 is provided at each end of each elongated sheet 8 and carries a buckle 11, which forms an adjustable lock for the front end of a strap 12. The straps 12 are secured at their rear ends to the end portions 5 by stitchings 13 and are of either Specification of Letters Patent.-

elastic or non-elastic webior other suitable a button 16. Buttoned on each of said buttons is a thigh strap 17 which is adapted tok pass around' the upper portion of Vthe leg of the wearer and engage a buckle 15 to hold the band in position.
The device is particularly adapted for use of persons recovering from abdominal operations and during gestation. It is placed in position on the wearer and lacing 6 adjusted to give the belt proper size. The thigh straps 17 are secured to the belt 4 at its lower front edge substantially as indicated and in position to hold said front edge over the lower portions of the abdomen and in the groin of the wearer. The lift-up straps, comprising elongated sheets 8, straps o-r webs 12 and their connections, are then each independently adjusted to support the desired portion of the abdomen.
lith the use of independently formed and adjustable lift-up straps, any desired portions of the abdomen may be supported and other portions freed, or some portions of the abdomen may be given more support than others such as affording little or no pressure on a wound and lirmly supporting other portions of the abdomen when so desired. The soft band 4 provides a cushion for the more firm portions secured on its outer surface and permits o-f freedom of movement with comfort to the wearer. The thigh straps prevent upward movement and displacement of the device. Nith devices on the market it is difficult to give proper support to the lowermost portions of the abdomen butr with my device as described this is satisfactorily accomplished.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. I, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modications as come within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described my invent-ion what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A. device of the kind described comprising soft flexible band; rm end portions secured to said soft leXible band; a lacing connect-ing said firm end portions; spaced non-elastic members extending longitudinally on and stitched to said soft flexible band only at their central ortions; and straps stitched to said firm end portions and adjustably secured to the ends of said nonelastic members, substantially as described.
2. A device of the kind described com prising soft flexible band; firm end portions secured to said soft flexible band; a lacing connecting said firm end portions; spaced non-elastic members extending longitudinally on and stitched to said soft flexible band only at their central portions; straps stitched to said rm end portions and adnordsee'y .justably secured to the ends of said non` elastic members; two spaced reinforcing sheets secured to the lower front endge portion of Said soft flexible band; a button on one end of each reinforcing sheet a buckle on the other end of each reinforcing sheet; and a thigh strap engaging the buckle and button on each reinforcing sheet, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
FRANK Z. HUSAR.
