A further object to provide for uuielcly end firmly attaching the burner to the font and readily detaching it therefrom.
Aturther object is to provide tor Stt'tttlflt'l1 ening the top of; the font so {15 to lirml support the burner and resist the force necessary to exert in nttuching the burner inplnci and in removing it from the font for the purpose 0F refilling.

gm novaese slots 8 so that by a slight rotation of the base within the tube-to the right, said lugs will be caused to engage under the inclined margins 16 (see Fig. 3) of the lateral slots 8, and lock the base of the burner securely within the flaring opening of the tube, so as ;to efiect a tight closure between said parts and dctachably join them by a fastening of the bayonet joint type.
To remove the burner it is only necessary to turn it slightly toward the left, so as to disengage the lugs 14 from the slots 8, when the burner may be lifted out of the tube. This arrangement facilitates the operation of fastening the burner to the lamp font and unfastening it therefrom, obviating the use of the thread ed connection between said parts commonly employed, the objection to which is that the oil will follow the thread between the connected parts and work out of the font, the splashing of the oil in the font as ordinarily made conducing to this undesirable result.
By means of the structure shown herein,
the splashing of the oil in the font of the lam. is largely overcome by the tube 5 depencing therein. The small amount of 'oil which stands within the tube 5 through which the wick passes, cannot be caused to splash b any movement to which the lamp may be subjected, while the oil which surrounds said tube can find no avenue of escape through the top, which as will be seen,
is without a seam or joint that will admit of the passage of the oil. The only openings through the wall of the tube are the slots 7 and 8, and these are closed by the tapered base of the burner when it is seated therein, While said base is fitted so tightly in the tapered opening of the tube 5 as to preclude the possibility of the oil passing between the tapered base and the wall of said tube.
By doing away with a threaded connection between the burner font, the necessity for rotatingithe burner many times in making a connection between the font and burner is-obviated, thereby overcoming any twisting of the wick to wring the oil there from, or interfere with the free passage thereof through the wick tube. A further advantage in this arrangement resides in the fact that the oil cannot splash onto the wick and thereby cause a flickering or variation of the flame.
As the lower end the tube 5 extends nearly to the bottom of the lamp font, it is necessary to provide a vent for the font around said tube. This vent is afforded by the slots 7 through which air may escape as the font of the lamp is being filled.
Having thus fully set forth my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:-
l. A burner fastener and oil splash preventer comprising a disk secured in the top of an oil font having a tube-extending centrally therefrom into said font, the upper portion of said tube being tapering to form a receiving socket for the burner base, a burner having a tapered base to enter and fill said socket in a manner to effect atight closure between said parts, and interlocking members .upon said base and socket for de tachably connecting said part-s togethein' 2. A burner fastener and splash preventcr comprising a disk secured in the top of the burner font and having a tube depending centrally therefrom, the metal of the font at the top lying upori the upper surface of said disk and a rib in the wall of the font sup" porting said disk below, tube depending from said disk having slets in the wall thereof near its upper end, a burner having a base portion adapted to enter id tube, said base portion having proje parts which-engage in said slots lock t .e of the burner withinsaid tube.
3. A burner fastener, comprising a socket tube depending within the font and sup; ported by the top thereof, the wall of said tube having an angular slot therein, a"
burner havin a base adapted to enter said tube to seat therein, said base having at its lower end a plate provided with a projecting lug adapted to engage in said angular slot lock the base of the burner within said in testimony whereof, I sign this specification in the presence of two witnesses.
