COKE-LOADER.
To all whom it may concern: I
Be it known that we, PERRY R. JORDAN and WILLIAM WRIGHT, citizens of the United States, residing at Adamsville, in thecounty of Jefferson and State of Alabama, have invented new and useful Improvements in Coke-Loaders, of which the following is a specification. t
Our invention relates to coke loaders. I
The object of our invention is to'providea more eflicient device than that shown in the application of Perry R. Jordan #600,333,
filed Dec. '31, 1910 for improvement'in coke loaders which efliciency is obtained by the provision of suitable means to scrape and remove ashes or other foreign matters from the track or path traversed by the machine. Said improvement is hereinafter described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
In said drawings :Figure 1 is a side elevation of the machine. Fig. 2 is a plan view showing the gatherers or scoops and other receptacle, the latter being shown broken away and in section, and, Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of one of the scrapers.
Referring to the drawings, the machine is designated 1 and said machine is composed of parts similar to that shown in the pending application Serial Number 600,333 referred to, except that the screen device and chute for the screenings as shown in said pending application are omitted.
Referring briefly to said machine, the same is shown as a wheel vehicle, the rear wheels 2 of which are driven from a suitable motor 3 mounted upon the frame 4 of the machine. Said motor also drives an endless coke conveyer 5, and a feeder device to supply the coke to the conveyer. Said feeder device comprises a rotary drum having circular heads 6 between which is secured a hollow drum body such as 7 to which drum body coke engaging rakes or the like 8 are fastened. Through the drum heads 6 extends a shaft 9 on which said heads are mounted and on which shaft is also mounted a sprocket wheel 10 adapted to be suitably driven by a connection with the engine to impart motion to the feeder.
Referring now to the improved feature of the device, which consists in means for removing ashes or other foreign matter from the track or path' traversed by the machine, the frame 4 has supported thereon as by means of brackets 11, suitable scrapers 12 Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed August 22, 1912;
Patented Sept. a, 1913. Serial No. 716,527.
machine so as ,to operate lip n the path traversed by the machine, toscrape ashes or head having the openings 13, are provided a suitable number of scoops such'as 14' which scoops are open at a portion thereof and lead to the openings 13. Said scoops are provided witha mouth or the like at 15 to facilitate engagement with the ashes or the like moved to one side of the machine by the scrapers 12; v
It will be realized that as the feeder revolves, that the scoops turn therewith and take up or remove the ashes from the path traversed, which ashes fall from the scoops through the openings 13, into the drum 7. As the machine advances the first time, the major-portion of the ashes in its pat-h are taken up or collected by the scoops. The ashes remaining in the path however, are deflected or moved to one side by the scrapers 12 so that they can be gathered or collected by the machine upon the next trip, which would be in a pat-h adjacent and parallel to the first patl. One or more doors 16 are provided in the drum 7 so that the collected ashes or the like may be removed therefrom. I
It will be seen that two of the scrapers 12 are provided one in front of and the means to rot-ate said shaft, a door for said receptacle, said side head provided with an opening communicating with the interior of the receptacle adjacent the shaft, and a scoop fixed to said side head'delivering material to said receptacle.
preferably arranged diagonally below the' 0 2. In a machine of the class described, a scraper arranged diagonally operating upon the pathtraversed by the machine, arot-ary end plate provided with a series of scoopsthereon to engage the scraped material, said
plate provided with an opening through which the material is delivered, a receptacle in said rotary device to Which said opening 7 leads, said receptacle provided With an opening through which the. material may heremoved, and means. to cover said opening,
4. In a machine of the class described, a
scraper arranged diagonally to engage the 20 path traversed bythemachine, a rotary coke feeder device comprlsing a receptacle, an
5 end plate for said receptacle, said receptacle provided Wit-h an opening leading to said receptacle, and scoops fixed on said end plate 25 delivering scooped material to the receptacle, said receptacle provided with an opening through Which the scooped material may be removed, and a door covering said latter opening.
