ALBERT G. Ko1.osa, ;or NEWBERRY, :aimineraria Specication of Letters Patelit Patented Sept. 9, 1913- Application led November 3U, 19412. Serial No. 734,368.
To all fwhom it may concern: e
13e 1t Vknown that I, ALBERT G. KoLosA, a citizen of the United States, 'residing at Newberry, in the county ofi Luce and State improvements in envelops .and more particularly to safety envelops. A
The object of the invention is to provide an envelop embodying improved means for strengthening the construction of the envelop when sealed and also means to guard against the fraudulent opening of the envelop by furnishing proof of the fact in the event that an'attempt should be made to open the envelop by an unauthorized person to obtain access to the contents thereof.
Another object of the invention is to pro- ;Vide an envelop of this character which will possess advantages in points of efficiency and durability, is inexpensive of manufacture and at the same time is simple in construction and operation.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel features of construction and the combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, pointed out in the claims and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which-` FFigure 1 is a plan view. illustrating the blank of which my improved envelop is formed. Fig. 2 is an'elevation of the envelop showing the same in al partly folded position. Fig. 3 is an elevation showing lthe same in its closed position. y
In the construction of my improved envelop, it will be understood that the same must be made of paper or any other suitable material and may be of any suitable size desired.
In the drawings, 1 indicates the body of the envelop provided with the end flaps 2 and '3, the bottom Hap 4 and the top flap 5.
The flap 3 is cut inwardly upon its side edges to form angularly disposed tabs 6 which, when the end of the flap is disposed within the slit 7 formed in the end flap 2 will engage the body of the Hap 2 at the ends of the slit to prevent the removal of the end of the iap 3 without severing the tabs 6 therefrom. The bottom flap 4 is of substantially rectangular shape and one corner thereof is turned inwardly as shown at 8. f The other corner is cut away to form thetongue 9 which is provided upon its opposite edges with the tabs 10. which, when the tongue is threaded within the slot 11 formed in the corner 8, will engage upon elther end of the slit so that the tongue cannot be removed therefrom without severing the tabs. The top Hap 5 is substantially triangular 1n shape and is provided upon its side edges adjacent the apex thereof with outwardly proJectlng tongues 12, said tongues extending outwardly from the flap at diametrically opposite points and are provided at their outer ends with the angularly project-ing tabs 13 which, when the tongues are engaged within the slits 14 formed inthe flaps 2 and 3, will prevent the removal of the tongues without severing the tabs 13. Extending outwardly from the apex of the flap 5 is a tongue 15, the outer end of which is provided with. the angularly projecting tabs 16 which, when the tongue is engaged wit-hinlthe slit 17, formedy in thcnap 4, will prevent the removal of the tongue without severing the tab therefrom and from this it will be seen that it is impossible to open the envelop and gain access to the contents thereof, by an unauthorized person, wit-hout furnishing proof that the envelop has been tampered with. This adds greatly to connection between the various flaps of the envelop.
While I have shown and described the preferred form of my invention, it will be obvious that various changes in the details of construction and in the proportions may be resortedto for successfully carrying my invention into practice without sacrificing any of the novel features or departing from the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is y 1. In a device of the character described, the combination of a body provided with end flaps, means carried by the ends of said flaps for engagement to prevent the opening of said aps without detection, a bottom flap of substantially rectangular form having one of its free corners bent inwardly and provided with a slit, the other free corner being cut away to form a tongue having angular tabs formedV on the opposite sides thereof and adapted to engage the ends of the slit to prevent the removal of the tongue when inserted therein, a top fla-p and means carried by the top flap for'engagement withn the other flaps to prevent fraudulent access.
to the interior of the envelop.
2. In a device of the character' described, the combination of a body provided with end flaps, one of said end flaps having a transverse slit, the other of said end flaps -removal of thetongue when inserted therein, a toptlap of substantially triangular forni, oppositely disposed tongues 'formed upon the side edges thereof and arranged adjacent the apex, angularly disposed tabs formed upon the out-er ends thereof, a third tongue projecting outwardly from the apex of the top flap, angularly disposed tabs formed at the outer end of the( third tongue and said end flaps and the bottom flap being provided with slits to receive the tongues upon the top ap, the tabs upon said ktongues preventing the removal of the tongues Without severing the same from the body. Y
In testimony whereof I hereunto aix my signature in the presence of'two Witnesses.
ALBERT G. KOLOSA.
IVitnesses:
CLARENCE I. MARTIN. FRANK B. REYNOLDS.
