ADJUSTABLE TRACE-CLIP.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 26,1913.
Application filed May 24, 1912. Serial No. 699,479.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that L'BENJAMINE F. BRAD- FUTE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Thornton, in the county of Limestone and State of Texas, have invented new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Trace- Clips, of which the following is a specication.
The invention relates to an adjustable trace clip, and has for its primary object to provide a clip of this character in which the connecting strap between the back and belly bands may be adjusted with relation to the trace so as to permit the back band to properly t the animal and also allow the longitudinal adjustment of the trace.
Another object of the invention is the provision of an adjustable trace clip which can be carried by the trace and permanently mounted thereon, so as to adjustably receive connection between the back and belly band whereby the latter may be adjusted vertically or longitudinally with respect to the trace.
A further object of the invention is the provision of an adjustable trace clip which is simple in construction, thoroughly reliable and eficient in purpose and inexpensive in manufacture.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and pointed out in the claim hereunto appended.
In the drawing: Figure 1 is a fragmentary side elevation of a trace, back and belly bands, the adjustable trace between the same, and the adjustable trace clip constructed in accordance with the invention applied to the trace. Fig. 2 is a fragmentary top edge elevation of the trace showing the clip mounted thereon. Fig. 3 is a sectional view on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1. Fig. l is a perspective view of the trace clip removed.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawing.
Referring to the drawings by numerals, 5 designates a portion of a back band of harness which is of the ordinary well-known construction, 6 the trace, 7 the belly band, and 8 the strap connections between the back and belly bands respectively, the straps 8 being detachably connected to the trace clip asshown in Fig. 1 of the drawings, the trace clip being presently described. Secured to the forward end of the trace clip as usual 1s a tug strap 9 carrying the o-rdinary hames tug iron 10.
The trace clip comprises a metal plate l1 formed with a plurality of openings 12, the same being separated by means of cross bars 13 formed in the plate, the openings being of varying sizes with respect to each other. The plate 11 is disposed against the outer face of the trace 6, and has one end engaged by the tug strap 9 which is formed with a loop end 111 engaged about one end of the plate 11, while the opposite end of the plate engages the loop end 15 of a strap 16, the same being suitably secured to the trace 6 as shown. The said plate 11 is disposed longitudinally with respect to the trace 6 and adapted to be engaged with the longitudinal side bars of the plate are the strap connections 8, the same being trained through the openings 12 and have their ends adjustably engaged in buckles 17 carried by the strap connections, the buckles being of the ordinary construction. The openings 12 in the plate 11 may be varied according to the size of the strap connections S so as to accommodate the same, which straps are passed through any one of the openings 12 in the plate thereby adjustably connecting the trace thereto.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, it is thought that the construction and operation of the invention will be clearly understood, and therefore, a more extended explanation has been omitted.
What is claimed is The combination with a trace having an eye member at one end provided with limbs overlying opposite faces of the trace, of a loop fixed between one limb of the eye member and the face adjacent thereto of the trace, a second loop secured to the trace and spaced from the rst loop, et trace clip In testimony whereof I aflx my sgnnl pomplrsing an oblong;` frame having its ends ture in presence of two Witnesses.
