patented nlug; ttl, ll tolti-t.
eppnmuon ined may le una. vfilelist no. @einen citizen ot' the United States of Americav residing in Cynwyd and county of Montgomery, in the Stale of Pennsylvania, have invented a certain new and useful llmprovenient in Oil-Burners, of which the following is a true and exact description, reference beingY had to the accompanying drawings;
' eelve su ticking washer G. The nozzle body 'Wliicrt'orni a part thereof;
My present iiivention'relates to oil burners yand particularly to oil burners ot the type in which a burner body containing a;
cut ott valve' has a burner nozzle piece connected thereto, and the object of the presenty invention is to rovide simple and effective means for inter oeking the/cut off valve in the burner body with provisions for detachobly securing thenozzle rneinber in place so that the nozzle member cannot be de'tuehed from the burner body when the out olvztlve is o en.
'lllie various features of novelty which characterize my invention are pointed. out with particularity in the claims annexed to und forming, a part of this speciticaton. For u better understanding of the invention hown ever, and the objects accomplished thereby7 reference should be had tothe accompanying drawings and descriptive-matter in which l have illustrated und described forms in which my invention may be embodied.
Of the drawings: Figure l is 'in elevation of a burner body constructed in accordance with my present invention. Fig. 2 is a plan ol a portion/ot the burner shown in Fig, l taken partly in section on the line 2 2 of Fig. l and. Fig. 3 is a perspective view ot' the interlocking part attached to the cut olf vulve..
In the drawings, A represents the burner body which, as shown, formed with an inlet passage a conical valve chamber A2 in line therewith7 and un outlet passage A3 opening laterally .from the valve chamber A?. Communication between the inlet and outlet passages A and A3 is controlled by a cut otfvalve B in the form of a rotary cock, the stemB of which passes out of the burner body through the shitting box C. An operating khandle if) issecured to the outer end of the plug cock stein l2 :is by the nut 'B2 which also :ui'es an inter-j locking member E to tl ein lil'. "his interlockingmember compie- 1er a hub n tion E, arms E and a cylindricel'tiody coaxial with the valve l. "ihe outer enel ot the outlet passage A3 ofthe bur-ner, body' receives the bock turned end of the burner nozzle l?. ltlue portion Fbf'the nozfazle body tits snugly in the enlnrged portion of the outlet passage [t3 andl at'theouter end of said portion, 'the nozzle body is formed with a flange lf2 channeled out. to re .a threaded socket receiving,` the ciampi 'ft screw H2. One of the hubs H ot the yoke lisJforined with o. ooneavity H3 snugly receiving the interlocking member E when the .parts are assembled as shown in tu ll lines in Figs. l and 2. In this condition ot the .apparatus the valve maybe turned in either direction to cut ot communication between the passages A. and A?, but While the valve .is in its open position, the clamping yoke cannot be turned out of the position shown in 'full lines in. Figs. l end 2. lo permit-the clamping yoke to be swung out of the posi: tion shown in the full line position into the dotted line position of Fig. l, the body E is cut away vto forni apertures' or sockets E3 andlltso located that when the valveiis turned to cut ofin communication betweenthe passages 'A' and A3, one or the other of these apertures will be in position to .receive the interlocking portion H4 ot the yoke which must intersect the cylindrical outline ot the interlocking' body E when the yoke is turned into the dotted line position shown in Fig. l.. llt will be apparentot course, that either' of the two apertures E3 und lil* may be omitted it' desired, and that the only dilt'erence made by the omission of one of these apertures is that there would then be only one, and .not two closed positions otA the valve in which the clamping yoke H could be swung out of itsl normal clamping position.
llhile in accordance with the 'provisions ot' the statutes l have illustrated and do l departl'ng from the spirit ot my invention,
ltlil and that in Certain eases some features ot the xneelianifsin may be used with advantage Without a Corresponding use of other teatures.
Having now described my invention, what I Claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is,
l. In an eil burner, the eoi'nbination with a support and a detachable nozzle member each formed with a passage registering with the passage of the other; of a rotary valve mounted in said support and controllingthe passage thereof, and means for detachably securing said body and nozzle members together, comprising a clamping yoke pirotally connected to said support to turn into and out of its clai'nping position about an axis parallel to the axis ot' rotation of said valve, said clampingyoke being formed with a eoncarity and said Valve being provided with a cylindrical portion Aentering said oonoavity and holding Said yoke in its clamping position when said valve is in the open position7 and passing out of said eoncavity to permit the yoke to turn out of its clamping position when said Valve is in its eiosed position.
passage thereof, and means Ator detaehably.
sernring Said body and nozzle members together Comprising a clamping yoke pivotall)y connected to said supprrt to turn into and ont of its clamping position about an axis parallel to the axis of rotation et said valve, said clamping' yoke having an interlocking` portion and Said Valve beingv pro-l vided with a cylindrical bearing snrt'aoe engaging; said interlocking portion and 'thereby holding,r the yokein its clamping` position when said valve is in the open pos tion, said surface being,y formed with a recess adapted to receive said interlocking; portion and permit said yoke to turn out ot its Clamping position when said valve is in its closed position.
