To all whom it mm/ concern:

Be it known that we, ARTHUR H. mm and PETER E. JOHNSON, citizens of the United States, residing at San Francisco, in the county of San F 'ancisco and State of alitornia, have invented a new and useful l)oorLock, of which the following is a specification. in such full and clear terms as will enable those skilled in the art to construet and use the same.

This invention relates to a door lock for the use of travelers, and its object is to provide a simple and easily applied lock which can be carried upon a key ring and which is usable in connection with any door to prevent same from being opened from the opposite side.

In the drawings in which the same numeral of reference is applied to the same portion throughout the several views, Figure 1. is a side elevation of a portion of a door jamb and a portion of a door illustrating the application of the lock thereto, Fig. 2 is an end view of the lock looking in the direction of the arrow shown in Fig. 1, Fig. 3 is a plan view of the lock, Fig. 4!; is an end View of the lock looking in the direction of the arrow in Fig. 3, Fig. 5 is a perspective view of one portion of the locking clamp, and Fig. 6 is an end view of the lock with the locking lever thrown back.

The numeral 1 represents the door jamb, 9 the lock plate in which the bolt ot the usual key lock is inserted, while 4. represents the door and 5 a portion of the ordinary mortise lock which is let into the door. This lock comprises a long U shaped member 6 having a portion thereof turned back at a right angle as shown at 7 and provided with two rings at its free ends as shown at 8. One or both of the limbs of the U shaped member may be provided with notches as indicated at 9, and slidable on said member 6 is a member 10 having a U shaped portion 11 and having its ends 12 crimped over the two members 6.

At one end the member 11 is provided with a locking member 13 which takes in the notches 9, as the member 10 is moved along the limbs 6. A pin 14 passes through the U shaped portion of the member 10, and slidable on said pin is the locking member Specification of Letters Patent.

This locking member is provided with a slot to give about one eighth of an inch movement to the member 15 and it has two edges turned up as at 16 to bea against the door and two other portions 17 folded around the limbs of the member (3. This locking lever has a slot termed therein and the material of the slot is'bent around to form a cam as indicated at 1!), and the free end of the lever is notched as indicated at 20 to pass between and be releasably secured to the two members (i and when so secured the member 15 will be forced against the door to hold it close in contact with the jamb.

In use the device is applicable to almost any door, since the member 10 is movable along the member (3 and may be stopped at any one of the notches 9, whereupon the lever 18 is pushed around to the position indicated in Fig. 3 and thus secures the door closed, and prevents any burglar or unauhorized person from opening the door on the outside.

It will be noted that the locking lever spreads the two parts (3 slightly, thus securely locking the slidable member thereon in any given adjustment.

Having thus described our invention what we claim as new and desire by Letters Patent of the United States, is as follows:

1. Tn a door look, a member having a tongue toproject into a bolt detent and having notches thereon, a member sliable upon the first member and carrying a movable abutment, and a lever pivoted on said slidable member to move the slidable abutment, and to lock the slidable member in a given adjustment, substantially as described.

2. In a door lock, a member having a tongue adapted to project into a bolt detent and having notches thereon, a member slidable on the first member, an abutment slidable on each of said members, and a lever carried by the second member to move the slidable abutment and to secure the slidable member in a given position upon the first member, substantially as described.

3.
