COMBINED CANT-HOOK AND PICK.

T 0 all whom, it may concern Be it known that I, JOSEPH Pnowovosr, a citizen of the United States, residing at P01- son, in the county of Flathead and State of Montana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Cant Hooks and Picks; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

This invention relates to new and useful improvements in combined cant-hook and pick boons and comprises a simple and eflicient device of this nature, having various details of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts, which will be hereinafter fully described and then specifically defined in the appended claim.

My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure l is a side elevation of my invention. Fig 2 is an end view, and Fig. 3 is a sectional view on line 3? of Fig. 1.

Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates a plate which may be made either of cast or malleable iron, preferably the latter, and has a cylindrical portion B adapted to receive a handle C. Projecting from the opposite edges of the plate are the wings D which are bent over the edge of the plate and thence parallel to each other and which is apertured for the reception of a pin E to which a cant hook F is pivoted between the wings, as shown clearly in the drawings. The cylindrical portion of said plate has spurs H Specification of Letters Patent.

projecting therefrom at substantially right angles to the length of the handle and adapted to engage the object in connection with which the cant hook is to be utilized. Projecting from said cylindrical portion is a lug N to which a pick point 0 is pivotally connected, and P designates a spring which is adapted to hold the pick point either folded or extended. When said point is held in an extended position, a shoulder Q thereon engages over a projection R upon the cylindrical portion of said lug N.

By the provision of a cant hook made in accordance with my invention, it will be noted that, when the pick pointis not in use, it may be folded back against the handle and out of the way when the device is used as an ordinary cant hook. Then the pick point is extended, it will be held rigidly in place by the spring, the shoulder upon the pointengaging a lug, thus reinforcing the same.

What I claim to be new is A cant hook comprising a ferrule adapted for the reception of a handle, an integral portion of said ferrule being bent concaved and flush with the inner face of the ferrule, said integral portion having wings which are bent upon themselves and spaced apart, a pin carried by said wings, a cant hook pivotally mounted upon said pin intermediate the parts which are bent upon themselves, an extension of said concaved por tion designed to be attached to a handle.
