BED ATTACHMENT.
Specicetlon of Letters Patent.
Application tiled May 28, 1912. Serial No. 700,314.
Patented May 20, 1913.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, Omvnu E. Bnoons, s. subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Robblin, in the Province of Manitoba :m Dominion of Canada, have 'invented .new and useful Improvements in Bed Atvision of e bed attachment wherein sewinging member may be connected to the post of ed for vertical cdustment thereon and which will support di erent articles for convenientsccessibilitv by. a patient when confined to the bed. The swinging of the member will permit the article supported thereby to be brought into convenient reach or out of the Way of such patient, thus assuring a handy article for the use of the occupant' .of the bed.
A further object ofthe invention `is thev provision of an attachment of this character which is simple in construction, reliable and c ecient 1n its purpose, and vinexpensive 1n manufacture. Y l.
` With these and other ob]ects 1n view the invention consists inthe construction, combination and arrangement vof parts as will be .hereinafter more fully described, illustruted in the accompanying drawing, and pointed out in the claim hereunto a pended.
In the drawing Figure 1 is e regulentery perspective view of e' bed showing the attachment constructed in accordance lwith the invention mounted upon the bed post.v
- Fig. '2 ist, side elevation of the'ettachment.
Fig. 3 is c. fragmentary top plan view thereof. Y
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding ports throughout the several views in the drawing.
' whic Referring to Vthev drawings by numerals 5 deswnates generally one post of a bed which 1n tlls lnstance is shown of a. tubiorm type although it may be of any other style and on which is ada. ted to be mounted un attachment present y described.
The attachment comprises a. ring member 6 forming a. tray or other like article support or bracket, and is provided with an outwerdly extendinor bifureeted limb 7 forming spaced psrellel eyes 8 between which is arranged one end of e horizontally swinging wlng 9, the limb 'Ibeng vertically hinged thereto by ineens of a pivot 10 which passes through the eyes 8 undv the seid wines as shown. The wing 9 is formed with :L enring lip or tongue 11 against which is adepted to normally rest the limb 7 ofthe ring member 6Vso as to sustain the letter in substentially horizontal Vposition for receiving e tray, pen or other similar article. The wing 9 is formed with a. pintle receiving hub 12 in which is engaged u. pintle 13, the seine being also loosely engaged in lugs or eers 14 formed on split collars 15, which are adaptedto surround the post 5 of the bed and are designed with out-turned ends 16 through are passed clamping screws or bolts 17, whereby the said collars 15 may be festened in any desirable adjusted position longitudinally of the post- 5 ofthe bed. It is evident that the ringmember 6 can be swung upwardly and Yinwardly toward the post 5 so as to lie against the same when not in use so as to beout 'of the wey.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, it is thought that the construction and operation of `the invention will be clearly Vu'nderstood, end therefore, a. more extended explanation has been omitted.
What is claimed is The combination with a. pair of clamping rings having bearing eers, of a pintle hub having e wing longitudinally disposed thereon, a pintle passed through the hub und fastened in the bearing ears, e lip formed on the wing and disposed at right angles thereto,m ring-like member having c, bifurcated limb receiving the said win eyes formed In testimony whereof I aix my signature von the biurcated limb and 'sposed at opin presence of two witnesses.
posite sides of the Wing and a pvot passed through the eyes and ving for swingingly OLIVER E BROOKS 5 connecting the ring-like member to the lat- Witnesses:
ter and permitting 1t to rest upon the lip H. J. EVERALL, when in horizonal position. Ro'r. T. GIoNs.
