NEGK'IIE HOLDER.
APPLIGATION FILED MAY 1s, 1912.

NECKTIE-HOLDER.
noeaass.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, OLIVER C. DORNEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Allentown, in the county of Lehigh and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Necktie-Hold ers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
It is well known to the wearers of cravats that diiiiculty is experienced in holding` the cravat properly in place without its riding up or sagging down below the collar button and various attempts have been made to provide devices to overcome these defects. With collars of the turnover type, the diliiculty is to hold the bow or knot of a fourin-hand or bow tie from slipping down below the collar button so as to expose the latter, and it has been the common practice to draw the knot very tight to overcome this defect, with the result that a small knot is formed which not only destroys the shape and appearance of the cravat, but has a tendency to injure the material thereof. With straight or standing collars, there is a tendency for the knot to work, both upwardly and downwardly. With the ordinary four-in-hand cravat, when tied by the wearer, the knot has a tendency to slip downwardly unless drawn so tight that it destroys the appearance and tends to destroy the material of the tie, but when the knot is drawn tight to prevent its sagging, the tendency will be for the knot to creep upwardly above the collar button.
lVith a knowledge of these conditions, my invention has for its primary object, simple and efficient devices for securely holding the tie in its proper place at the front of a collar of any type, the parts being so constructed and arranged that they may be cheaply and easily manufactured and capable of being easily attached to and detached from a collar button as well as adjustable so as to accommodate themselves to the particular length or thickness of the knot with which they are intended to be used. And the in vention also aims to generally improve devices of this class and to render them more useful and commercially desirable.
With these and other objectsin view, as will more fully appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists in certain Specification of Letters Patent.

constructions, arrangements and combinan tions of the parts that l shall hereinafter fully describe and claim.
For a full understanding of the invention, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, in which,
Figure l is a perspective view showing the application of my invention. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the device.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and designated in the accompanying drawing by like reference characters.
Referring to the drawing, the numeral l designates a bar which is preferably formed of metal and which is provided with angularly offset ends 2 and 3, the end 3 extending upwardly at its extremity and being secured, integrally or otherwise with a loop l which is substantially of key-hole shape, as best illustrated in Fig. 2 having a substantially circular opening 5 which communicates with a contracted opening 6 so that the loop may be easily slipped over the head of a collar button and rest on the shank or stern thercof. lt will be seen that the loop 4 is disposed at an angle to the bar l, which arrangement provides a device which will conform to the angle formed between the neck and chest of the user. The lower offset end 2 of the bar l is formed with a screw threaded aperture 7 in which a threaded rod 8 works, said rod extending` longitudinally underneath and parallel to the main portion of the bar and being provided at its upper end with a head 9, whereby to prevent the rod from being worked entirely out of the aperture 7. The rod S is formed at its lower end with an outwardly and upwardly turned hook l0 designed to engage the cravat at the rear of the knot thereof, when a cravat of the four-in-hand or similar type is used.
From the foregoing description in connection with the accompanying drawing, the operation of my improved necktie holding device will be apparent. In practical use, the loop 4t is slipped over the collar button, either in front of the collar or between the overlapped ends thereof or at the rear of both overlapped ends, as desired, and the bar l is thus suspended from the collar button and projects downwardly parallel to the shirt front, but slightly spaced therefrom.l rWhen the knot is formed, the Ahook 10 is engaged with the knot to prevent the latter from sagging down. The rod 8 is adjustably connected to the bar l, whieh bar forms a' backing for the knot, in` order that the hook 1 0 may be shifted upwardly or downwardly, according to the thickness and length of the. knot that vis formed.
While the accompanying drawing 1llus trates what I believe to be the preferred embodiment of vmy invention, it is to be understood that `the invention is not limited therey to, but that various changes may be made fin the construction, arrangement and .propo-rtions of the parts Without departing lfrom` the scope of the invention, as dened -in the*` appended claim.
What I claim is:- p
As a newjarticle'of manufacture, :the herein described necktie holder, consisting of a bar formed with offset ends, one of which is 'provided lwith'a screw threaded aperture eX- tending therethrough, a loop adapted to be slipped over and be suspended from a collar button, the loop being secured to the opposite end of the bar and disposed at a'nfa'ngle thereto, andva @threaded rod working through s'aid aperture and formed at its lower end with an upwardly facing hook.
In ltestimony whereof I hereunto affix Imy signature in `the presence of two Witnesses.
