To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JAMES V. THOMPSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Spencer, in the county of Roane and State of West Virginia, have invented new and useful Improvements, in Hasp-Locks, of which the following is a specification.

The invention relates to hasps and more particularly to the class of hasp locks. v

The primary object of the invention is the provision of a hasp wherein a latch or locking member is mounted thereon so that when the hasp is engaged with a keeper the locking member or latch will also engage therewith so as to prevent the removal of the hasp from the keeper, thereby assuring the secure locking of a door or other movable closure.

Another object of the invention is the provision of a hasp of this character in which a lock will securely fasten the same, the lock being readily. released through the medium of a key.

A further object of the invention is the provision of a hasp lock which is extremely simple in construction, thoroughly reliable and efiicient in its purpose, and inexpensive to manufacture.

With these and other objects in View, the invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and pointed out in the claim hereunto appended.

In the drawings :Figure 1 is a side elevation of a hasp lock constructed in accordance with the invention. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the same. Fig. 3 is a fragmentary vertical longitudinal sectional view through the hasp hook.

Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views of the drawing.

Referring to the drawing by numerals, 5 designates an ordinary hasp provided at one end with an eye 6 through which is passed a staple 7, the latter being stationarily mounted in a door or a door frame, as usual, while in the opposite end of the hasp is formed an elongated slot 8 for the detachable engagement thereof with a second staple forming akeeper 9 which, in event of the staple 7 being secured to the door, is fastened to the door frame in the ordinary well-known manner.

Swingingly supported upon the hasp 5 is a hasp hook 10 provided with a double hook end 11 adapted for engagement in the keeper 9, the hook 10 being engaged upon a stationary pivot 12 mounted in the hasp 5, and in this manner the said hook 10 is swingingly connected therewith. The pivot 12 is formed in its outer periphery with a notch 13 in which is engaged a locking bolt 14, thelatter being confined within a suitable guideway or channel 15 formed in the hook 10, and is acted upon by means of a coiled expansion spring 16 which is also confined within the guideway or channel 15 in the hook, the spring being designed to act upon the bolt 14 for forcing it into the notch 13 in the pivot 12, and in this manner the hasp hook 10 is locked against swinging movement. The notch 13 is located at a point in the pivot 12 so that when one hook end 11 thereof is engaged in the keeper 9 the bolt 14 will project into the notch 13, thereby locking the hook 10, thus securely fastening the hasp when engaged with the keeper.

Provided in the hook 10 is a key-hole 17 in which is adapted to be inserted a key designed to act upon the bolt 14 for retracting the same against the tension of the A spring 16, and thereby moving the bolt out of engagement with the notch 13 in the pivot 12 so that the said hook 10 can be swung in a direction for freeing or releasing the hasp.

From the foregoing it is thought that the construction and manner of operation of the device will be clearly understood, and therefore a more extended explanation has been omitted.
