Be it known that I, JAMES H. YOUNG, a citizen of the United States, residing at- Bi'o'wnsville, in the county of Edmonson and State of Kentucky, have invented a new and useful Box or Receptacle, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to dumping receptacles; and it has for its primary object the provision of a receptacle which will include companion relatively adjustable Sections and means for normally holding the sections closed relatively under the weight of the load and during the hoisting and Swinging Operations of the receptacle.

Another' object of the invention is to provide means for positivelyinsuring the release of the Sections of the receptacle relatively when it is desired to dump the load.

In the accompanying drawingS:-Figure 1 is a side view of the receptacle, showing the sections thereof closed relatively; and Fig. 2 is a similar view, showing the sections opened.

The receptacle preferably comprises companion Sections 1 and 21 which are connected together through the medium of a hoisting bail 3, whereby the sections may be adjusted relatvely to opened and closed po- Sitions, respectively, trunnion portions 4: 01' terminals of said bail having operative engagement in ears 5 of the companion receptacle Sections as herein shown. A pin 6 extends laterally from one side of the section 2 and through an arcuate guide slot 7 in a guide bar 8 fixedly mounted upon one side of the receptacle.

At the opposite side, the section 2 is provided with a fixed keeper 9, which is disposed in the path of a gravitationally locking latch 10, which is pivotally supported at 11 upon the section 1. A stop 12 on the section 1 is located directly in the path of the bail 13 of the dog 10, so as to engage the same when the sections 1 and 2 are opened relatively as shown in Fig. 2 and thereby insure holding the nose 14 of the latch in operative receiving position of the keeper 9. The nose 14 is provided with a beveled surface 15, which terminates slightly above the plane of the keeper 9 when the sections 1 and 2 are closed and which is adapted to insure an operative engagement of the keeper 9 behind the shoulder 16 of said dog. be positively held in closed positions as illustrated in Fig. 1. A releasing rocking lever 1.7 is pivoted at 18 to the section 2. This lever has a short arm 19, which extends in the direction of the keeper 9, being always disposed below the plane thereof so as to positively underlie the looking extremity of the latch 10. A long arm 20 of said lever is extended upwardly against one side of the section 2 and connected with a return spring 21 of said section so as to normallyT hold the long arm in contact with a stop 22 of said section 2.

With a view to faclitating opening the Sections 1 and 2 relatively when the latch 10 is released from the keeper 9, provide a toggle lever 23, which preferably consists of a link 24 pivotally connected at one end, as at 25, with the stop 12 and pivoted at its opposite end, as at 26, with the lower extremity of a link 27. The link 27 is pivoted at 28 upon the side of the receptacle 2 and, as shown, said link is extended upwardly in the direction of the stop 22, where it is connected with a controlling cable 29. This cable is extended through an eye 3.0 of the section 2 and then through an eye 31 of the long arm 20 of the lever 17. The free ter-` minal 82 of the cable may be extended to a suitable point within convenient reach of the operator where it may be grasped and pulled so as to first release the latch 10 from the keeper 9 by causing the short arm 19 to bear against the nose 111 of said latch with a resultant separation of the shoulder 1G from the keeper as is evident. Pull on the cable also lifts the link 27 from a stop 33 of the section 1. The companion links 24 and 27 are then operated to cause the initial opening of the Sections 1 and 2. The bottom 34 of each of the sections 1 and 2 is inclined downwardly toward thecenter of the receptacle so as to encourage a proper' discharge of the material when the receptacle sections are opened.
