Description

S. J'. ,LINTON BOSE CLAMP.
UNION FILED JUNE 17 191 Ma". 18, QS.
devices, having particular iUNTEB STATES SIDNEY J. LINTON, 017' RGVELAND, NET YORK.
Application filed .Tune 17' 1912.
Specification of Letters Patent.
of Groveland, in the county ot' Livingston und State of New York, have invented certuin new and useful Improvements in Hose Clamps and l do hereby dechire the following to be n full, clear, :ind exact description of the seine, reference being had to the ac companying drawings, forming e part of this specication, end to the reference-numerals marked thereon.
My invention rel-fates to hose clamping reference to clamps of the class employed for securing the ends of hose onto nozzles or couplings, and it has for its object 'to provide a clamp which may be readily positioned, by slipping it around the hose` Iind without necessitating putting it on from one end.
A further object of my invention consists in providing simple construction that enzibles the hoseto be gripped lirinly et every point, so as to give an equal pressure from all portions of the clamp, thus providing a very effective means for retaining the hose securely in engagement with. the coupling or other part to which it is attached.
To these and other ends the invention consists in certain improvements and combinations of parts, all as Will be hereinafter more fully described, the novel tentures being pointed out in the claim et. the end ot the specification.
In the drawings: side`elevation, illustrating the application of e preferred embodiment of the invention; Fig. 2 is a plan view of the seme; Fig. 3 is u sectional vieiv on theline 31--3l of Fig. l; Fig. 4 shows the i'irst osition of the clamp, in applying it to the ose, trates the method of securing the clamp.
Similar reference numerals throughout.
the several figures indicate the soi/ne parte.
The clamp, as illustrated in the present embodiment, is applied to e. section or hose l which is secured to the nozzle orcoupling 2, and comprises o plurelity o1? sections.
herein designated at 3 end 4, respectively, which are hinged together prneiersbly as et Section 3 hes a reduced end portion 6,
-Figure l is o view in.
and F ig. 5 illus-v While' the section 4 is provided with the opening or slot Z adapted to receive seid reduced cnil portion 6 which passes through seid opening so :is to torni i complete loop. having continuous engagement with the liose. rhe sections 3 and el are provided with'thrended ends 8 and 9, respectively,
which nre nri'angedto engage openings in the yoke l0, the latter being adapted to lit' over the hinged portion of the clamp, es shown in Fig. Nuts ll are provided for holding the yoke in engagement with the ends of the clamp. In order to accanito@- dete the hinge 5, end et the seine time to enable the yoke to form e. close engagement With the clamp, transversely arranged recess l2 which overlies the hinge 5; as shown in Jliig. 3.
In the operation ot the device, the chimp is iii-st positioned on the hose, as shown in Fig. 4, the hinged sections being moved eport with section 3 surrounding the hose. The sections are then moved relatively 'to each other, as shown in Fig. 5. portion 6 of the section 3 is pushed within the section l, to enable it to pass through 'the slot or onening 7 and to assume the position shown in Fig. 3. Theyolre 10 is then positioned over the ends ofthe sections of the clamp, and secured. thereto as already described.
l claim es my invention:
A clamp including e flexible bend comprising e. pair of hinged sections, one of seid sections having an opening therein and the other of seidsections being provided with o reduced portionedspted to ness through seid opening to forro e.' 'complete' loop around the article to be clamped, seisl loop engaging the article throughout iii e. plane perpendicular to its longitudinel finis, o yoke heving e transverse recess engaging the hinge doetween the sections, ond ineens tor holding the yoke" in engagement with the ends of the bend,
