WATER-BAG FIXTURE.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, MAXIMILLTAN CIL-mLEs SonwEiixEnT, residing in Vest Hoboken, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, and HENRY P. KRAFT, residing in the borough of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings, city and State of New York, cit1- zens of the United States, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in WVater-Bag Fixtures, of'which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to hot water bags, and aims to provide an improved fixture for connecting the bag with a tube so that the bag may be used as a fountain syringe.
The device provided by our invent-ion includes a tubular connection or nipple molded or otherwise secured in the water bag, and preferably at the bottom thereof, such tubular connection having a means for engaging a screw-threaded cap which is designed to close the lower end of the tube when the device is to be used as a hot water bag. Pref crably the cap is made in two parts which are swiveled together, the outer part being provided with a packing designed to be pressed against the open end of the tube to close the latter and an inner part formed with screw-threads adapted to engage the screw-threaded portion of the tubular mem ber. Preferably the tubular member is formed with a circumferential shoulder of considerably greater diameter than its body portion, such shoulder being provided with screw-threads to engage the cap.
In the accompanying drawings illustrating our invention: Figure 1 is an elevation of the lower end of a hot water bottle provided with our improved feature. Fig. 2 is a vertical section on a larger scale of the lower part of Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawings let A indicate a hot water bag of any desired construction having a neck B formed at its lower end. The tubular member or nipple C is adapted at its inner end a to engage the neck B of the water bag being preferably knurled or otherwise roughened on its exterior surface to provide a more secure engagement therewith. At its outer end the nipple G is provided with a shoulder 7) adapted to engage a tube when the bag is to be used as a fountain syringe. Between the inner and outer ends of the nipple C is formed a circumferential shoulder cl which is of considerably larger diameter than the body of the nipple, said shoulder being adapted to limit the inward movement of the nipple into the neck, the end of the latter abutting against the shoulder. The shoulder (Z is provided on its outer surface with screw-threads adapted to engage the threads of cap D. The latter is formed in two parts 6 and f, the outer of which 6 is provided with a packing washer g, the edges of which are confined in a groove h formed at the outer end of the member 0. The member 7 is provided with a screw-threaded portion at its inner end adapted to engage the threads of the shoulder 61 so as to force the packing g firmly against the mouth of the nipple G thereby closing the nipple when the bag is to be used as a hot water bag.
An important feature of our invention consists in forming the cap in two parts and swiveling such parts together so that one may rotate independently of the other. In the construction shown the member 6 is formed with an outwardly turned flange i and the member 7 with an inwardly turned flange j overlying the flange 2'. e have found in practice that by forming the cap in this manner, a tight joint may be easily made without excessive strain on the washer g, thus greatly extending the life of the latter. In the construction shown it is very important that the two parts of the cap shall be prevented from separation, as otherwise one or the other may be mislaid or lost. For this purpose we provide a projection on the lower end or other portion of the part 6, which projection has a suflicient degree of extension to prevent the part c from dropping through the opening within the flange 7'. The projection is may be conveniently formed as a shoulder outwardly of the groove or recess h as shown.
The several parts of our device may be constructed in any suitable manner, but we prefer to turn the nipple C out of solid metal and to form the cap of sheet metal.
Although we have described in detail a specific form of our invention, we do not wish to be limited thereto as various changes may be made therein without departing from the invention.
What we claim is 1. A nipple for water bags having a projecting nipple portion and an enlarged screw-threaded portion, in combination with a. cap adapted to screw on said screwthreaded portion, and to receive said pro jecting nipple portion, formed in two sheet metal parts provided with interlocking swiveling means.

A nipple for water bags having a projecting nipple portion and an enlarged screw-threaded portion, in combination with a cap adapted to screw on said screwthreaded portion, and to receive said projecting nipple portion, formed in two sheet metal parts provided with inter-locking swiveling means, the outer of said parts having a packing washer and the inner part being screw-threaded.
A nipple for water bags having a projecting nipple portion and an enlarged screw-threa ded portion, in combination with a cap adapted to screw on said screwthreaded portion, and to receive said projecting nipple portion, termed in two sheet metal parts, the outer of said parts being formed with a recess in its outer end forming an external projection and with an out turned flange at its inner end and having a packing washer in said recess, and the inner of said parts being screw-threaded and. formed with an inturned flange at its outer end, said inturned. flange engaging with the (mt-turned flange on said outer part of the cap and training with said external projection an interlocking swivel connection between said parts.

6. A nipple for water bags, having an intermediate portion and two reduced. portions adapted to be connected to a bag and to a tube respectively, said intermediate portion being of but one diameter in width, threaded and forming shoulders between said reduced portions, in combination with a cap adapted to screw on said. screwthreaded portion formed in two sheet metal parts, the outer of said parts being formed with a recess in. its outer end forming an external projection, and with an out-turned flange at its inner end and having a pacle ing washer in said recess, and the inner of said parts being screw-threaded and formed with an inturned flange at its outer end, said inturned flange engaging with the outturned flange on said outer part of the cap and forming with said external projection an interlocking swivel connection between said parts.
