A TTORNE Y BENJAMIN T. B. HYDE, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
SHIFTABLE EXTENSIBLE SUPPORT FOR SHELVING.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 19, 1912.
Application filed June 5, 1912. Serial No. 701,752.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BENJAMIN T. B. HYDE, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shiftable Extensible Supports for Shelving, of which the following is a specification.
My invention has relation to shiftable extensible supports for store or other shelving, and in such connection my invention relates to the structural arrangement thereof, for the defined purposes.
The principal object of my invention is to provide a standard detachably mounted in a. base and having extensible supports adjustably held from the standard and on which is mounted the shelving.
The nature and scope of m present invention will be more fully un erstood from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, in which- Figure 1, is a side elevationalview of a shiftable extensible support for store shelving, embodying main features of my said invention. Fig. 2, is a front elevational view thereof. Fig. 3, is an elevational view of a modified form of hollow extensible standard with a socketed base, the extensible part whereof is provided with perforations at suitable distances apart therein; and Fig. 4, is a similar view of a similar base having a flat perforated standard for engaging and supporting the extensible cross-supports for the shelving.
Referring to the drawings in Figs. 1 and 2, a, is a base having a long socket a for a tubular standard a, secured therein by means of a set screw. a", are T-unions provided with tightening screw bolts 0, and which unions are in connection with transverse telescoping supports a". These telescoping sections of the transverse supports are provided with set screws a, for ti htening the said sections to one another. he T- unlons of the said cross-supports a, permit of readily shifting of the same on the standards a, either up or down so as to change the position of the shelving b, solely sup-. ported thereby.
In the type of standard a, as shown in Fig. 3, it is provided with perforations at suitable distances apart for the T-unions a to be shifted along the said standards by screw bolts or pins a, introduced therethrough as well as through the perforations of the said standards a In Fig. 4, the standards if, instead of being hollow bars as in Fig. 3, are flat perforated bars and the cross-supports a", instead of being telescoping, as in Figs. 1 and 2, are shiftable in contact with each other, one section being provided with'an oblong slot a, and the other with a perforation a for a tightening screw bolt a", to enter so as to be enabled therebyto secure in rigid po sition the two members of said support for mounting shelving b, thereon.
7 It will be observed from the foregoing that as the supporting members for the shelving b, are arranged, a highly sanitary structural arrangement of shelving for stores or the like is provided, and also that the adjustable arrangement of the same will 'permit of ready assembling of the whole structure for use, as well as disarrangement thereof for shipment or storage; and moreover that where shelving of different dimensions are required, the described arrangement is such as to quickly provide a shelving for the said required purposes, and is clearly illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2, of the drawings.
Having thus described the nature and ob: jects of my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A shift-able extensible support for store shelving, comprising a socketed base, a standard removably mounted in said base, extensible cross-supports, consisting of two members slidably connected with each other and ad'ustably mounted in connection with each of the standards and shelving removably mounted on said cross-supports, in their operative position, substantially as described.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my signature in the presence of the two subscribing witnesses hereto.
' BENJAMIN T. B. HYDE.
