State of Ohio, have linvented certain .new and useful Improvements in Sanitary Supports; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and 'exact description of the invention, such. aswill enable others skilled `in the art to whichiitlvappertains to make and use the samef y 'a 1,
My invention consists in the novel 'features hereinafter described' referencebing had to the accompanying drawing which shows an embodiment of the invention which I have selected for the purposes of illustration and said invention is fully disclosed in the following description and claim.
Referring to said drawing, Figure 1 is a perspective View of my improved sanitary support showing it in connection with a supporting belt and provided with a detachable napkin or pad-provided with means for Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of the same. Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view taken through thecentral portion of the support and pad 'or napkin. Fig. 4 is a similar sectionalyiew of a slightly modified form of pad or napkin.` Fig. 5 is a perspective view oneI end Vof the pad shown in section in Fig. 4c, separated from the support, and partly broken away. My present invention consists of an iinprovement in the class of devices shown and described in my former Patent No. 574,378 dated Jan. 5, 1897, said improvement consisting mainly in improved means for attaching 1said napkin or pad to a belt which upholds the sanitary support, without the use of pins or other auxiliarydevices, said attaching means providing for the ready disengagement of the pad or napkin when desired.
In the drawings, I have shown a sanitary support of the kind disclosed in my former patent above referred to comprising a piece of waterproof material A having its longitudinal edges C, C folded inwardly and its corner portions B, B folded inwardly and secured together at b thus providing a small V-shaped opening ZJ at each end, the lateral edges C, C being connected adjacent to either end of the support by a strap E.
The support is provided at each end with a loop Gr to engage a support-ing belt, and I Specilication of Letters VPatent. Application tiled. August 17, 1911. Serial No. 644,653.
prefer to employ the form of belt shown in my former Patent No. 828,809 dated Aug. 14.-, 1906, which comprises the belt proper,
vH having its ends connected by the two part locking catch Z1., it and provided at the back and front with the yokes I, I each consisting of a piece of tape having a downwardly Vextending portion z' the upper end of which is permanently secured to the belt H, the
tape being folded diagonally to produce thehorizontal portion i and the vertical free end 2 and stitched, the free end 2 being secured, when in use, to the belt by a detachable fastening h2, h3. The horizontal portions z" of the yokes I, I engage the loops ofthe support, as shown.
L represents the napkin or pad, which is preferably folded into proper form to fit the interior of the support, and is stitched at its ends (and in some cases longitudinally also) and provided at each end with a loop Z of soft tape, long enough to pass through the V-shaped apertures b at the ends of the support A, and slip over the yokes' I, I. The napkin orpad is of such length that these tapes not only secure the pad in place but hold it in such position in the support that its ends are beneath the straps E, E and preferably beneath, or partially beneath the corners B, B, thus insuring the retention of the pad or napkin Within the confines ofthe pad. l
To remove the pad to insert a fresh one, it is only necessary to release the free ends of yokes I, I and slip the tape loops Z from engagement therewith, without removing the loops of the support, and then remove the pad, the tape loops slipping easily out through the V-shaped apertures Z9.
I prefer to make the pads in two ways. If a non-washable pad is desired I form the pad as shown in Fig. 1 and in section Fig. 3,
Patented Uct. 15, 1912. v
of one or more layers of absorbent cotton or other similar material Z around which is folded a piece of antiseptic gauze, Z2 and the ends of the gauze covering and the cotton lining are stitched `together by a line of stitching as shown at Z3, which preferably also secures the tapeloops Z. The loops Z are formed preferably by securing the ends of the tape to the pad adjacent to the corner and connecting the tape about midway of the loop as shown at Zt (Fig. 5).
If a washable pad is desired, I prefer to take a doubled piece of washable fabric to give the desired thickness, and fold it again,
as shown in Figs. 4 and 5, and unite it at the edge or edges, and then stitch it across the ends and attach the tape loops as before described.
It will be seen that these pads are spel cially designed for use for the supporter and belt herein shown, and I claim them particularly in combination therewith.
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is Y The combination with a sanitarj,y support,
and have its ends inclosed beneath the said corner portions, said pad being provided at the belt, whereby the ends of the pad are held at all times within the folded end portions of the support, and both are connected to and supported by the belt.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature, in the presence of two witnesses.
