Abstract
A method for assessing the severity of the state of the patients following the surgical treatment of the carotid arteries comprises the clinical examination and the radiodiagnostics of the brain. The peak systolic flow rate in the medial cerebral artery is measured prior to and after the surgery. The two-fold increase of this flow rate following the surgery is considered as the manifestation of the cerebral hyperperfusion. In addition, the complaints of the patient are analyzed; the degree of the consciousness, the presence of the seizures and intracranial hemorrhages are also taken into account for assessing the severity of the cerebral hyperperfusion and selecting the therapeutic approach.
