Abstract
The invention relates to a chill mould which is used to cast light metal casting materials, which is produced from an Ni-alloyed and/or Mn-alloyed cast iron material, wherein the Ni- and/or Mn-content thereof is dimensioned in such a way that the thermal coefficient of expansion of the chill mould is adjusted to the thermal coefficient of expansion of the respective light metal casting material, which is to be cast. The chill mould can be produced in an economical manner and has optimised properties of use and also optimised casting results. Said type of chill mould is also suitable, in particular, as a component of a sand mould casting which is used to cast a cylinder block from a light metal casting material.
