Abstract
The invention relates to the industry of refractory materials and may be used in production of high-duty corundum-containing refractories for various applications. For production of sintered corundum that does not contain carbon and for the purpose of accelerating the process of melting 5-15 % of alumina containing 85-95 % of α-Al2O3 are loaded into an electric arc furnace, after formation of the melt the process of melting is carried out without any contacts between the electrodes and the melt with further feeding the rest part of alumina containing 30-40 % of α-Al2O3. Melting is carried out under voltage of 194 V.
