已知使用抗污塗料,例如作為船體之外塗層,以一般藉由釋放針對海生生物之殺生物劑來抑制海生生物(諸如藤壺及藻類)的沉降及生長。
近年來,諸多成功的抗污塗料為基於聚合物黏合劑之「自拋光共聚物」塗料,離去基團化學鍵結至該黏合劑及鍵結至聚合物主鏈之離去基團自其被海水逐漸水解。在該黏合劑系統中,線性聚合物單元之側基在第一步中藉由與海水反應而分離,導致剩餘聚合物架構變為水可溶或水可分散。在第二步中,在船上塗層表面中之水可溶或水可分散架構被沖掉或消蝕掉。該類塗料系統係敘述於例如GB-A-1 457 590、EP 779304、WO 2005005516、WO 200202698、WO 2004018533或WO 201018144及WO 9937723中。
當前海洋溶劑型抗污塗料在塗料應用時釋放顯著量之有機溶劑至環境中。這對環境有害並在未來幾年將漸增地被立法反對。在許多國家已經立法限制抗污塗料之揮發性有機物含量(VOC)。例如,對於從塗佈抗污塗佈組合物之船舶之總排放而言,歐洲溶劑排放條例(European Solvents Emissions Directive)限制VOC為少於270 g/kg,相當於約450 g/l,而在美國加州,實行抗污塗料之上限為400 g/l。
水型調配物提供顯著減少抗污塗料之有機溶劑含量之潛力。就本發明之目的而言,水型抗污塗佈組合物意指含有超過10體積%之水的任何該類組合物。該類塗料亦可被稱為水基塗料。在本專利申請案中揭示之水型組合物一般具有小於150 g/l之VOC。
除了此VOC要求,船上之抗污塗料應提供充分的抗污保護及具有優良膜完整性,即顯示幾乎無破裂及優良黏附,尤其係當塗佈至其中塗料被交替潤濕及乾燥之船隻之彼類零件,例如在水位線處。塗料應足夠硬,即非柔軟或黏狀,但其不應為脆性。而且,塗料絕不應顯示所稱之冷塑加工或塑性變形,換言之,當船隻在水中行駛時,膜不應起波紋。此外,該塗佈組合物需要顯示足夠短的乾燥時間。藉由本發明組合物達成此類特性。
JP 2009173914、WO 2006/077738及EP 1958991揭示藉由乳膠聚合製備之水型抗污系統。
JP 2007023243揭示一種水性抗污塗佈組合物,其包括藉由如下製備之乳液:(i)製備溶於有機溶劑中之聚合物,(ii)在大氣壓下藉由蒸餾部份去除該溶劑,及接著(iii)將聚合物/溶劑與水混合。JP 2007023243中所揭示之乳液為油包水型乳液。JP 2007023243中所記錄之乳液黏度在1至6泊之間變化,其為總黏度由連續相(即溶於該有機溶劑中之聚合物)之黏度控制之油包水型乳液的特性。相比之下,水包油型乳液(其未藉由添加稠化劑而改性)具有約0.1泊之黏度(因為水為連續相)。而且,發明者已經發現,如實例P1及P3中所述製備之乳液隔夜儲存時在室溫下不安定。
JP 2003277680揭示一種經由在有機溶劑中合成甲矽烷基聚合物製成之基於甲矽烷基聚合物之系統。該溶劑係在水中乳化該甲矽烷基聚合物之前藉由蒸餾部份去除。
當前水型抗污系統之一問題在於:當與溶劑型系統比較時,存在降低之機械強度及膜性質。此類系統之微粒性質不利於膜聚結,導致在乾塗料膜中存在空隙。
上述問題已經藉由本發明水型塗料而解決,本發明水型塗料釋放顯著更少的有機溶劑至環境中,同時保持與溶劑型系統可比之優良機械性質。就其嚴格符合規定(避免罰金)而言,及就環境影響及其組織之外形而言,這不僅對環境更有利,而且有利於該塗料之使用者,他們將見到減少有機溶劑排放之積極效果。
根據本發明之第一態樣,提供一種製備抗污塗佈組合物之方法,其包括下列步驟:
a) 製備溶於有機溶劑中之黏合劑聚合物;
b) 將該黏合劑聚合物及該有機溶劑乳化至水中;
c) 從乳液中去除部份該有機溶劑;及
d) 將乳液調配成水基抗污塗佈組合物。
根據本發明之第二態樣,提供一種包括水包油型乳液之抗污塗佈組合物,其中該水包油型乳液之油相為視需要溶於有機溶劑中之黏合劑聚合物,該抗污塗佈組合物可藉由根據本發明之第一態樣之方法而獲得。
乳液為一種液體(「分散相」)分散於另一液體(「連續相」)中。水包油型乳液係當油為分散相及水為連續相時,即油分散於水中。油包水型乳液係當水為分散相及油為連續相時,即水分散於油中。根據本發明之第一態樣之方法製備水包油型乳液,其中分散相(油)為視需要溶於有機溶劑中之黏合劑聚合物,及連續相為水。
本發明者已經發現:如藉由根據本發明之第一態樣之方法所提供之水包油型乳液之可達成之揮發性有機物含量(VOC)比相當油包水型乳液可達成者低許多。例如,油包水型乳液可達成之VOC(諸如在JP 2007023243中揭示之彼等)為約160 g/l,及本發明者已經發現:不可能進一步減小VOC。相比之下,本發明之方法可用於製備具有更低許多之VOC(及在原理上,低至0 g/l)之水包油型乳液。
而且,已經發現:當與當前水型抗污系統及特定言之包括乳膠之系統比較時,藉由本發明方法製備之水型抗污系統具有優越的機械強度及膜性質。事實上,藉由根據本發明之第一態樣之方法製備之水型抗污系統具有與溶劑型系統可比之優良機械性質。
根據本發明之第三態樣,提供一種抗污塗佈組合物於塗佈基材之用途。
本發明者已經意識到:根據本發明之第一態樣之方法可用於提供具有極低揮發性有機物含量(VOC)而不像其他水型抗污塗料損及機械性質之海洋抗污塗料。
本發明方法之步驟a)可應用於適用於抗污塗料中之任何黏合劑化學物質。適宜黏合劑系統可為SPC(自拋光共聚物)或非SPC黏合劑系統。
在一實施例中,該黏合劑包括在聚合物中具有丙烯酸主鏈之自拋光共聚物。SPC黏合劑系統可係選自以下任一者:如在EP 779304中敘述之丙烯酸金屬(例如銅或鋅)鹽系統,含甲矽烷基官能基之丙烯酸聚合物(WO 2005005516),根據WO 0202698、WO 04018533或WO 201018144之含羧酸根-抗衡離子官能基之丙烯酸系統或如在WO 9937723中敘述之四級銨或胺鹽/含羧酸酯或磺酸酯官能基之丙烯酸系統。丙烯酸SPC一般係在有機溶劑介質中藉由自由基聚合而製備。丙烯酸金屬鹽系統係藉由使含羧酸官能基之丙烯酸聚合物與金屬物質(諸如乙酸銅或氧化鋅)反應而形成。
較佳而言,使用丙烯酸鋅黏合劑系統,因為其達成極佳抗污性質及低VOC及優良機械性質。
非SPC黏合劑系統之實例包括含有松香、改性松香或松香衍生物作為活性黏合劑之黏合劑系統。此類系統亦被稱為控制消耗聚合物(CDP)或可溶基質塗料系統。在一替代實施例中,該黏合劑系統包括丙烯酸松香材料及松香、改性松香或松香衍生物。
可用於製備該黏合劑之有機溶劑應與該黏合劑相容,其意指該黏合劑應可溶於該溶劑中。呈唯一溶劑或呈混合物形式可使用之有機溶劑之實例包括芳香族溶劑(諸如二甲苯、甲苯及三甲基苯)、醇類(諸如正丁醇及異丙醇)、醚類(諸如四氫呋喃及二噁烷)、酯類(諸如乙酸丁酯)及酮類(諸如甲基異丁基酮及環己酮)。
步驟b)一般在高剪切下藉由緩慢添加乳化劑水溶液至樹脂溶液(溶於有機溶劑)而進行。在該添加期間發生相轉換(從油包水型變為水包油型),產生細微粒聚合物乳液。
在步驟b之前或期間,可將乳化劑及/或界面活性劑添加至溶於有機溶劑中之黏合劑溶液以利於水中之乳化作用。
該乳液可藉由一次性添加該乳化劑水溶液而形成或其可藉由添加添加一定量乳化劑水溶液至樹脂溶液以期形成油包水型乳液,其在所需之前可以該形式儲存,及隨後藉由添加其他乳化劑溶液而轉換成水包油型。該第二次乳化劑添加可包括相同乳化劑或具有更高親水-疏水平衡值的不同乳化劑。
若使用適宜乳化劑,諸如聚(環氧乙烷)/聚(環氧丙烷)嵌段共聚物界面活性劑(諸如來自BASF Aktiengesellschaft之Pluronic系列之界面活性劑),該乳液亦可藉由相轉換溫度(PIT)法而形成。此類界面活性劑在環境溫度下為親水性,但當加熱時因為從環氧乙烷重複單元失去水合之水而變為親油性。因此,儘管水包油型乳液在環境溫度下有利,但當加熱時,該系統可轉換為油包水型構造。若攪拌並快速冷卻系統,則回復至水包油型之轉換經歷一個臨界溫度-相轉換溫度(PIT),其中界面張力極低,以致液滴分散需要極少能量。若冷卻係足夠快地經過該點而進行,則所得粒度小於藉由習知乳化途徑所獲得者(參見C. Solans等人之「Adsorption and Aggregation of Surfactants in Solution: Fundamentals and Applications」-K.L. Mittal & D.O. Shah第525頁[2002])。
乳化作用較佳在利用相轉換法之高速分散器中進行,但是乳液亦可藉由使用均質化設備(例如轉子定子勻漿器(諸如膠磨機))或經由膜乳化作用而形成,或可借助於超音波裝置,或可涉及微流滴乳化技術,或可採用擠製技術。
適宜的乳化界面活性劑包括聚(環氧乙烷)-嵌段-聚(環氧丙烷)-嵌段-聚(環氧乙烷)聚合物,諸如由BASF Aktiengesellschaft製造之Pluronic系列之界面活性劑或由Uniqema Inc製造之Synperonic系列;聚山梨醇酯界面活性劑諸如聚(環氧乙烷)去水山梨糖醇脂肪酸;聚(環氧乙烷)之脂族醚,諸如可購自Croda International plc之「Brij」系列之化合物;含羧酸官能基之聚合物界面活性劑,諸如由Rohm and Haas/Dow Chemical Company製造之Orotan 731A;含陰離子硫酸根或磺酸根官能基之界面活性劑,諸如來自Cytec Industries之Aerosol OT;及炔二醇界面活性劑,諸如由Air Products and Chemical Inc製造之Surfynol 104。
步驟c)可藉由諸如在常壓或減壓下蒸發、藉由溶劑萃取技術或藉由蒸汽汽提之任何適宜的溶劑去除方法進行。在本發明之一實施例中,該步驟係在部分真空下並於機械混合下進行。在該處理中,將水及有機溶劑之混合物去除(因為共沸液形成),以增加固體含量。
可將所有有機溶劑去除,但較佳而言,一部分有機溶劑有意留在該乳液中以助於膜形成性。未受限於理論,據稱存在之未蒸餾之有機溶劑在乾燥處理期間有利於膜乾燥及聚結及甚至可起到促進系統轉換(從水包油型變為油包水型)的作用。因此,該膜在其最後乾燥階段更像溶劑型系統起作用,導致優良的膜聚結。
已經發現:對於一些樹脂而言,在真空蒸餾之前,添加更多量的界面活性劑至乳液中有好處。這可限制在蒸餾期間粒度變大。設想額外的安定化(空間的或靜電的)起著減少顆粒經歷聚結之趨勢的作用。
步驟d)較佳藉由在水中形成顏料/殺生物劑之初始研磨基質(在適宜界面活性劑存在下,高剪切處理)及隨後在低剪切下,或將乳液添加至經攪拌之研磨基質或將研磨基質添加至經攪拌之乳液中而進行。
藉由該途徑,產生極低VOC之塗佈組合物,其具有比標準溶劑型抗污塗料低許多的VOC。
該組合物亦具有優於如當前在遊艇市場中使用之水型抗污塗料之優勢:此類後一塗料通常基於在海水中基本上不反應及因而依賴殺生物劑之擴散以提供抗污性能之標準乳膠黏合劑。
已經發現:本發明水型塗料顯示可與標準市售(溶劑型)抗污塗料相比之優良抗污性能。已經發現:自拋光性能係與溶劑型比較相當塗料相似。此為出乎意料的結果,因為原本預期存在於水型系統中之親水型乳化劑及顏料分散劑會起到增加拋光速率的作用。另外,塗料在濕/熱-冷/乾循環測試期間未顯示膜完整性之損失(未出現破裂或剝離),其表明水型塗料之膜性質與溶劑型相當塗料之彼等類似。此為出乎意料的結果,因為原本再預期存在於水型系統中之乳化劑及顏料分散劑會因提高之親水性而有損膜性質,在循環之浸沒部份期間導致更多水進入,導致更大膜內部應力及膜完整性之損失。
基於丙烯酸共聚物之SPC抗污塗料一般包含能在海水中水解、離解或進行離子交換的基團。而且,許多此類丙烯酸共聚物為含酸官能基之聚合物,其酸根被能在海水中水解、離解或進行離子交換的基團封端,以產生可溶於或可分散於海水中的聚合物。
該類抗污塗料之實例揭示於EP 0204456及EP 779304中。用於塗佈組合物中之黏合劑包括含有至少一個下式之端基的丙烯酸主鏈:

黏合劑通常與用於水生生物之殺生物劑混合。
商業上成功的該類型抗污塗佈組合物最常包括一種黏合劑,其中X為,M為銅或鋅,R表示,及將該黏合劑與氧化亞銅及殺生物劑化合物(諸如吡硫鎓銅或吡硫鎓鋅)混合。
近來,抗污塗佈組合物已經開發為包含殺生物劑及含酸官能基之成膜聚合物,其酸根被能用海水物質水解、離解或進行離子交換的基團封端,以產生可溶於海水中的聚合物。該含酸官能基之成膜聚合物包括鍵結至聚合物主鏈之四級銨及/或四級鏻基,其經由具有包括6或更多個碳原子之脂族、芳香族或烷芳基烴基之酸之陰離子殘基組成之抗衡離子中和。該類塗佈組合物敘述於WO 200202698及WO 2004018533中。
其他自拋光共聚物系統包含含有甲矽烷基酯基團(如在WO 2005005516中所述),或經包含至少一個具有8至25個碳原子之脂肪族烴基之胺中和之磺酸、酸性硫酸酯、膦酸或酸性磷酸酯基團(如在WO 9937723中所述)之聚合物。
丙烯酸共聚物係由至少2種、較佳2至5種不同丙烯酸單體及視需要之一或多種其他不飽和單體聚合以實現最佳平衡性質。佔丙烯酸共聚物中之單體單元總數的較佳1至99莫耳%、更佳5至95莫耳%、更佳5至75莫耳%、尤其更佳7至70莫耳%及最佳10至65莫耳%包含能在海水中水解、離解或進行離子交換的基團。此類基團可在聚合之前存在於單體中,或可在聚合後引入丙烯酸共聚物中。丙烯酸共聚物應包含足量此類基團以確保共聚物在海水中進行水解、離解或離子交換反應以產生可從塗料層表面沖掉、消蝕掉或打磨掉之水可溶或水可分散的架構。不在海水中進行水解、離解或離子交換之適宜共聚單體包括(甲基)丙烯酸酯,諸如(甲基)丙烯酸甲酯、(甲基)丙烯酸乙酯、(甲基)丙烯酸丁酯、(甲基)丙烯酸2-乙基己酯、(甲基)丙烯酸2-羥基乙酯、(甲基)丙烯酸環己酯、(甲基)丙烯酸甲氧基乙酯、(甲基)丙烯酸異冰片基酯,含聚(環氧乙烷)官能基之(甲基)丙烯酸酯單體,諸如聚(環氧乙烷)(n=8)(甲基)丙烯酸單烷基醚、(甲基)丙烯酸甲氧基乙酯、(甲基)丙烯酸乙氧基乙酯、(甲基)丙烯酸丙氧基乙酯、(甲基)丙烯酸丁氧基乙酯或N-乙烯吡咯啶酮或苯乙烯及其經取代之衍生物。
能在海水中水解、離解或進行離子交換之基團之實例為:
(A)式-X-[-O-M-R]n之基團,其中M為具有2價或更高價之元素週期表中之第Ib、IIa、IIb、IIIa、IIIb、IVa、IVb、Va、VIa、VIb、VIIa及VIII族的金屬;及n為1至2之間的整數;R表示選自-O-R1、-S-R1或之有機殘基,R1為單價有機殘基及X表示
較佳地使用Ca、Mg、Zn、Cu、Te、Ba、Pb、Fe、Co、Ni、Si、Ti、Mn、Al、Bi及Sn中之一或多者。更佳地使用Cu、Zn及Te中之一或多者,尤其更佳地使用Cu及/或Zn。
較佳而言,M為銅或鋅及R表示及X表示及n=1。

(B)銨及/或鏻基,其經一或多個抗衡離子中和(換言之嵌段或封端)。此類抗衡離子係由具有包括至少6個、較佳6至50個、更佳6至20個碳原子之脂肪族、芳香族或烷芳基烴基之酸之陰離子殘基組成。
該嵌段之銨及/或鏻基可為四級、三級、二級或一級。較佳而言,其具有下列結構:

(D)磺酸、酸性硫酸酯、羧酸、膦酸或酸性磷酸酯基團,其可被如下中和:(i)包括至少一個具有8至25個碳原子之脂肪族烴基之胺,(ii)四級銨基及/或(iii)四級鏻基。離去基團可具有殺生物性。殺生物四級銨基之實例為三辛基甲基銨及二癸基二甲基銨。
另外,該抗污塗料黏合劑可包括含有多於一種能在海水中水解、離解或進行離子交換之基團的聚合物或該黏合劑可包括分別具有能在海水中水解、離解或進行離子交換之不同基團的兩或多種聚合物之摻合物。
在抗污塗佈組合物包括具有殺生物性之成分的情形下,其可為具有殺生物性之顏料或顏料混合物。無機殺生物劑之實例包括銅氧化物、硫氰酸銅、紫青銅、碳酸銅、氯化銅、銅鎳合金、及銀鹽,諸如氯化銀或硝酸銀;有機金屬及金屬有機殺生物劑包括吡硫鎓鋅(2-巰基吡啶-1-氧化物之鋅鹽)、吡硫鎓銅、雙(N-環己基-二氮烯鎓二氧基)銅、伸乙基雙(二硫代胺基甲酸)鋅(即,代森鋅(zineb))、二甲基二硫代胺基甲酸鋅(福美鋅(ziram))及與鋅鹽錯合之伸乙基雙(二硫代胺基甲酸)錳(即,代森錳鋅(mancozeb));及有機殺生物劑包括甲醛、十二烷基胍單鹽酸鹽、噻唑苯并咪唑(thiabendazole)、N-三鹵代甲基硫代鄰苯二甲醯亞胺、三鹵代甲基硫代磺醯胺、N-芳基馬來醯亞胺,諸如N-(2,4,6-三氯苯基)馬來醯亞胺、3-(3,4-二氯苯基)-1,1-二甲脲(達有龍(diuron))、2,3,5,6-四氯-4-(甲基磺醯基)吡啶、2-甲硫基-4-丁基胺基-6-環丙基胺基-s-三嗪、3-苯并[b]噻吩-基-5,6-二氫-1,4,2-噁噻嗪-4-氧化物、4,5-二氯-2-(正辛基)-3(2H)-異噻唑酮、2,4,5,6-四氯間苯二甲腈、甲基益發靈(tolylfluanid)、益發靈(dichlofluanid)、二碘甲基-對甲苯基碸、N-環丙基-N」-(1,1-二甲基乙基)-6-(甲硫基)-1,3,5-三嗪-2,4-二胺、3-碘-2-丙炔基丁基胺基甲酸酯、美托咪啶(medetomidine)、1,4-二硫雜蒽醌-2,3-二甲腈(腈硫醌(dithianon)),硼烷類,諸如吡啶三苯基硼烷、在位置5及視需要在位置1取代之2-三鹵代甲基-3-鹵代-4-氰基吡咯衍生物,諸如2-(對氯苯基)-3-氰基-4-溴-5-三氟甲基吡咯(群羅匹瑞(tralopyril))、及呋喃酮,諸如3-丁基-5-(二溴伸次甲基)-2(5H)-呋喃酮,及其混合物,及四級銨鹽諸如氯化二癸基二甲基銨及氯化烷基二甲基苄基銨及其混合物。殺生物劑通常需要經分散劑處理以產生水可分散組合物。該處理可在塗料調配之前進行因而產生單離之分散殺生物劑,或其可在塗料調配期間,藉由與分散劑以及其他塗料組分混合而進行。
包括作為黏合劑之丙烯酸SPC之本發明組合物可經由活性單體重複單元部份與海水離子之反應,提供殺生物劑之控制釋放,該反應產生隨曝露時間從表面「打磨」掉之水溶性聚合物之表面區。相比如當前在遊艇市場中使用之水型抗污塗料,其一般係基於在海水中實質上不反應及因而依賴殺生物劑之擴散以提供抗污性能之標準乳膠黏合劑及已知其一般不能在長於2至3年之時期中控制污染,該機制能在長時期(3至5年)內產生恆定的殺生物劑釋放速率。
而且,殺生物劑可視需要經全部或部份包封、吸附、吸收、承載或結合。有些殺生物劑處理困難或有危險及宜呈包封、吸附、吸收、承載或結合形式使用。另外,殺生物劑之包封、吸附、吸收、承載或結合可提供用於控制殺生物劑從塗料系統浸出之二級機制以達成甚至更平緩之釋放及長持續效果。
可添加至該等組合物之其他組分包括聚結劑、共溶劑及凍融安定共溶劑添加劑、稠化劑及防沉劑、消泡添加劑、非殺生物顏料填料、著色顏料、疏水性或親水性流體、罐內殺生物劑/防腐劑、潤濕劑及流動性促進劑。
適宜聚結劑之實例包括Texanol(單異丁酸2,2,4-三甲基-1,3-戊二醇酯)、Dowanol DPnB(二丙二醇正丁基醚)、2(2-甲氧基乙氧基)乙醇、苯甲醇、丁醇、單乙二醇及二乙二醇及單丙二醇及二丙二醇之單及二烷基醚,例如,乙二醇單正丁基醚及二乙二醇二丁基醚。
適宜共溶劑及凍融安定共溶劑添加劑之實例包括1,2-丙二醇、二乙酸丙二醇酯、二丙二醇二甲基醚及Rhodoline FT100(可獲自Rhodia company之凍融安定添加劑)。聚結劑及共溶劑亦可在乳化步驟期間添加至初始聚合物有機溶劑溶液中,或在已經除掉有機溶劑後添加至該乳液中。
適宜稠化劑之實例包括非聯合型,諸如澎潤土、矽鎂土、羥乙基纖維素(HEC)及其衍生物、矽石、高嶺土及金屬螯合物,及聯合型,諸如經疏水改性之乙氧化胺基甲酸酯(HEUR)、聚醚多元醇、經疏水改性之鹼可膨脹/可溶乳液(HASE)、經疏水改性之HEC。亦可使用天然稠化添加劑,諸如酪蛋白、藻酸鹽、海草萃取物、澱粉及樹膠。適宜防沉劑包括由Kusumoto Chemical Ltd提供之Disparlon AQ-600。
適宜消泡添加劑之實例包括基於烴之組合物,諸如由Cognis Corporation製造之Foamaster NDW,聚矽氧型,諸如購自BYK-Chemie GmbH之Byk 022及具有較短聚(環氧乙烷)嵌段之聚(環氧乙烷)-嵌段-聚(環氧丙烷)-嵌段-聚(環氧乙烷)聚合物,諸如購自BASF Aktiengesellschaft之Pluronic PE10100。
適宜非殺生物顏料填料之實例包括微溶於海水之化合物,諸如氧化鋅及硫酸鋇,及海水不可溶之化合物,諸如填料及著色顏料,例如,滑石、二氧化鈦、氧化鐵、酞菁化合物及偶氮顔料。適宜疏水性或親水性流體之實例包括聚矽氧油類、氟聚矽氧聚合物及聚(乙二醇)。
適宜罐內防腐劑之實例包括來自Thor Chemicals之Acticide系列之異噻唑啉化合物。適宜潤濕劑之實例包括聚矽氧型,諸如Byk 346(可獲自BYK-Chemie GmbH之經聚醚改性之二甲基聚矽氧烷)及非聚矽氧型,諸如可獲自Cytec Industries Inc之Aerosol OT(磺基琥珀酸二辛酯鈉)。適宜流動性促進劑之實例包括Byk 349(來自BYK-Chemie GmbH之經聚醚改性之矽氧烷)。
可添加之其他組分包括增塑劑及松香或其衍生物及/或實質上不含能在海水中水解、離解或進行離子交換之基團的聚合物。此類較佳地呈其分散或乳化形式使用。
該松香材料較佳係松香,尤其係木材松香或替代地浮油松香或脂松香。松香之主要化學成分為松香酸。松香可為商業出售之任何級別及可替代性地為松香衍生物,例如馬來酸化或富馬酸化松香、氫化松香、甲醯化松香或聚合松香或松香金屬鹽,諸如松脂酸鈣、松脂酸錳、松脂酸銅或松脂酸鋅。松香材料之水性分散液之實例為來自Eastman Chemical Company之「Tacolyn」系列產品。
作為在海水中不可溶之實質上不含能在海水中水解、離解或進行離子交換之基團之適宜聚合物或樹脂的實例,可提及以下化合物:改性醇酸樹脂、環氧聚合物、環氧酯、環氧胺基甲酸酯、聚胺基甲酸酯、亞麻油、蓖麻油、大豆油及該類油之衍生物、乙烯醚聚合物,例如聚(乙烯基烷基醚)(諸如聚乙烯異丁基醚)、或乙烯基烷基醚與乙酸乙烯酯或氯乙烯之共聚物、丙烯酸酯聚合物,諸如一或多種丙烯酸或甲基丙烯酸烷基酯之均聚物或共聚物(其在烷基中較佳地包含1至6個碳原子及可包含共聚單體(諸如丙烯腈或苯乙烯))、及乙酸乙烯酯聚合物,諸如聚乙酸乙烯酯或乙酸乙烯酯/氯乙烯共聚物。
據發現,根據本發明方法製備之抗污塗佈組合物展示容許有利的膜完整性及優良機械性及抗污性之粒度及粒度分佈。
該組合物之VOC含量較佳係低於250 g/l,更佳係低於200 g/l,甚至更佳係低於150 g/l,及最佳係低於125 g/l。VOC含量可按照ASTM標準D 5201-01計算。
當提供根據本發明之塗佈組合物之黏度數值時,參考按照ASTM標準D 4287-00,利用錐板式黏度計測得之高剪切黏度。
根據本發明之抗污塗佈組合物極適合用於在海洋及淡水應用中預防污染。該塗佈組合物可兼而用於動態及靜態結構,諸如永久或暫時性部份浸沒於水中之大船及小船船體、浮標、鑽探平臺、產油鑽機、管道、魚網、魚籠及其他水產養殖裝置等。
當應用至大船或小船船體之外部時,本發明塗佈組合物一般作為外塗層應用。如此,其可在一般塗佈方案中應用於新建船隻以及用於維護及修理已有船隻。
現將參考以下實例闡明本發明。此等欲說明本發明而不視為以任何方式限制其範圍。
丙烯酸鋅聚合物係藉由氧化鋅及環烷酸(酸值200 mg KOH/g)與基於單體(丙烯酸(18.4 mol%)、丙烯酸乙酯(80.35 mol%)及甲氧基聚乙二醇甲基丙烯酸酯(MPEG350)(1.25 mol%))之含羧酸官能基之丙烯酸共聚物之反應而製備。此等組分係在二甲苯/正丁醇(4:1重量比)中以1:1:1之莫耳比(氧化鋅:環烷酸:聚合物之羧酸基)混合及在95℃下加熱及攪拌直至獲得清液,產生45重量%之丙烯酸鋅聚合物溶於二甲苯/正丁醇/水(43.3:10.8:0.9重量%)中之溶液。
該溶液之乳化係如圖1中所闡明之方式進行。將丙烯酸鋅溶液(400 g)及消泡劑Foamaster NDW(Cognis Corporation)(5.7 g)置於容器A中並在Dispermat實驗室用高速分散器上以高剪切攪拌。隨後將預先製備之聚(環氧乙烷)-嵌段-聚(環氧丙烷)-嵌段-聚(環氧乙烷)界面活性劑(乳化劑)(由Clarianl International Ltd製造之Genapol PF)(20 g)溶於水(533 g)中之溶液及氫氧化銨(35%溶液)(2 g)歷時60分鐘饋入該聚合物混合物中。
當系統經歷從油包水型至水包油型乳液之相轉換時,出現黏度明顯降低。在結束饋料後,攪拌該乳液1分鐘,留待靜置至少1小時以消解任何泡沫。接著使其通過80 μm尼龍網。
然後,將該乳液(900 g)與一定量Orotan 731A(Rohm and Haas/Dow Chemical Company)(37.6 g之25重量%水溶液)一起置於配有機械驅動錨式攪拌器、電子溫度控制儀及探針及蒸餾頭/冷凝器/接收器裝置之四頸法蘭口燒瓶中。將壓力表連接至真空管線。在開始蒸餾前,稱量燒瓶及內容物,使得可以定時通過重量監測蒸餾過程。
在中速下攪拌乳液並加熱至40℃。然後逐漸施加真空直至觀察到穩定的蒸餾速率。在此等條件下,壓力表讀數為約35毫巴。
在除掉呈蒸餾水/溶劑混合物之28.5%之初始總量後,允許最終乳液冷卻,隨後通過80 μm尼龍網。藉由ISO3251之方法測量之非揮發性含量為27.7重量%(理論值29.2%)。計算VOC為128 g/kg。藉由利用Malvern Mastersizer設備測定平均粒度為2.4 μm。藉由ICI錐板式黏度計測定黏度為0.08泊。乳液具有乳白色不透明外觀。
丙烯酸鋅聚合物係藉由氧化鋅及環烷酸(酸值200 mg KOH/g)與基於單體(丙烯酸(16.8 mol%)/丙烯酸乙酯(73.5 mol%)、甲氧基聚乙二醇甲基丙烯酸酯(MPEG350)(1.3 mol%)及甲基丙烯酸環己酯(8.4 mol%))之含羧酸官能基之丙烯酸共聚物反應而製備。此等組分係在二甲苯/正丁醇(4:1重量比)中以1:1:1之莫耳比(氧化鋅:環烷酸:聚合物之羧酸基)混合及在95℃下加熱及攪拌直至獲得清液,產生48.6重量%之丙烯酸鋅聚合物溶於二甲苯/正丁醇/水(41.2:9.3:0.9重量%)中之溶液。
該溶液之乳化係如圖1中所闡明之方式進行。將丙烯酸鋅溶液(450 g)及消泡劑Foamaster NDW(Cognis Corporation)(6.4 g)以及二甲苯(18.9 g)置於容器A中並在Dispermat實驗室用高速分散器上以高剪切攪拌。隨後將預先製備之聚(環氧乙烷)-嵌段-聚(環氧丙烷)-嵌段-聚(環氧乙烷)界面活性劑(乳化劑)(由Clariant International Ltd製造之Genapol PF)(22.5 g)溶於水(600 g)中之溶液及氫氧化銨(35%溶液)(2.25 g)歷時60分鐘饋入該聚合物混合物中。
當系統經歷從油包水型至水包油型乳液之相轉換時,出現黏度明顯降低。在結束饋料後,攪拌該乳液1分鐘,留待靜置至少1小時以消解任何泡沫。接著使其通過80 μm尼龍網。
然後,將該乳液(1,050.0 g)與一定量Orotan 731A(Rohm and Haas/Dow Chemical Company)(45.9 g之25重量%溶液)一起置於配有機械驅動錨式攪拌器、電子溫度控制儀及探針及蒸餾頭/冷凝器/接收器裝置之四頸法蘭口燒瓶中。將壓力表連接至真空管線。在蒸餾開始前,稱量燒瓶及內容物,使得可以定時通過重量監測蒸餾過程。

在除掉呈蒸餾水/溶劑混合物之29.5%之初始總量後,允許最終乳液冷卻,隨後通過80 μm尼龍網。藉由ISO3251之方法測量之非揮發性含量為31.8重量%(理論值31.5%)。計算VOC為102.9 g/kg。藉由利用Turbiscan設備測定平均粒度為2.2 μm。藉由ICI錐板式黏度計測定黏度為0.10泊。乳液具有乳白色不透明外觀。
丙烯酸鋅聚合物係藉由氧化鋅及環烷酸(酸值200 mg KOH/g)與基於單體(丙烯酸(25.0 mol%)、丙烯酸乙酯(62.9 mol%)、甲基丙烯酸環己酯(9.6 mol%)及甲氧基聚乙二醇甲基丙烯酸酯(MPEG350)(2.5 mol%))之含羧酸官能基之丙烯酸共聚物反應而製備。此等組分係在二甲苯/正丁醇(4:1重量比)中以1:1:1之莫耳比(氧化鋅:環烷酸:聚合物之羧酸基團)混合及在95℃下加熱及攪拌直至獲得清液,產生45重量%之丙烯酸鋅聚合物溶於二甲苯/正丁醇/水(41.7:12.3:1.0重量%)中之溶液。
該溶液之乳化係如圖1中所闡明之方式進行。將丙烯酸鋅溶液(150 g)及消泡劑Foamaster NDW(Cognis Corporation)(2.0 g)置於容器A中並在Dispermat實驗室用高速分散器上以高剪切攪拌。隨後將預先製備之聚(環氧乙烷)-嵌段-聚(環氧丙烷)-嵌段-聚(環氧乙烷)界面活性劑(乳化劑)(由Clariant International Ltd製造之Genapol PF)(7.5 g)溶於水(200 g)中之溶液及氫氧化銨(35%溶液)(0.75 g)歷時60分鐘饋入該聚合物混合物中。
當系統經歷從油包水型至水包油型乳液之相轉換時,出現黏度明顯降低。在結束饋料後,攪拌該乳液1分鐘,留待靜置至少1小時以消解任何泡沫。接著使其通過80 μm尼龍網。
然後,將該乳液(170 g)加入配有機械驅動錨式攪拌器、電子溫度控制儀及探針及蒸餾頭/冷凝器/接收器裝置之四頸法蘭口燒瓶中。在開始蒸餾前,稱量燒瓶及內容物,以使可以定時通過重量監測蒸餾過程。
在中速下攪拌乳液並加熱至40℃。然後逐漸施加真空直至觀察到穩定的蒸餾速率。
在除掉呈蒸餾水/溶劑混合物之28.6%之初始總量後,允許最終乳液冷卻,隨後通過80 μm尼龍網。計算VOC為138.5 g/kg。藉由利用Malvern Mastersizer設備測定平均粒度為3.0 μm。藉由ICI錐板式黏度計測定黏度為0.06泊。乳液具有乳白色不透明外觀。
丙烯酸銅聚合物包括實質上與EP0779304-A1之製備實例1相符之丙烯酸共聚物,其中丙烯酸單元被鍵結至環烷酸殘基之銅封端。
該聚合物溶液(NVC 45重量%)係如圖1中所闡明之方式乳化。將丙烯酸銅溶液(150 g)及消泡劑Foamaster NDW(Cognis Corporation)(3 g)置於容器A中並在Dispermat實驗室用高速分散器上以高剪切攪拌。隨後將預先製備之聚(環氧乙烷)-嵌段-聚(環氧丙烷)-嵌段-聚(環氧乙烷)界面活性劑(乳化劑)(由Clariant International Ltd製造之Genapol PF)(11.3 g)溶於水(200 g)中之溶液及氫氧化銨(35%溶液)(0.75 g)歷時60分鐘饋入該聚合物混合物中。
當系統經歷從油包水型至水包油型乳液之相轉換時,出現黏度明顯降低。在結束饋料後,攪拌該乳液1分鐘,留待靜置至少1小時以消解任何泡沫。接著使其通過80 μm尼龍網。
然後,將該乳液(170 g)加入配有機械驅動錨式攪拌器、電子溫度控制儀及探針及蒸餾頭/冷凝器/接收器裝置之四頸法蘭口燒瓶中。在開始蒸餾前,稱量燒瓶及內容物,以使可以定時通過重量監測蒸餾過程。
在中速下攪拌乳液並加熱至40℃。然後逐漸施加真空直至觀察到穩定的蒸餾速率。
在除掉呈蒸餾水/溶劑混合物之35.2%之初始總量後,允許最終乳液冷卻,隨後通過80 μm尼龍網。獲得淺綠色不透明乳液。藉由ISO3251之方法測定之非揮發性含量為36.2重量%(理論值35.5%)。計算VOC為104 g/kg。藉由經稀釋乳液之光學顯微術測定粒度實質為1至15 μm之範圍內。藉由ICI錐板式黏度計測定黏度為0.22泊。
含四級銨-磺酸根抗衡離子官能基之聚合物係按照WO 201018144-A1(一般步驟-聚合物製法及實例1)中所述之方法製備,除N-(二甲基胺基)丙基甲基丙烯醯胺-十二烷基苯磺酸鹽係在二甲苯(替代二甲苯/丁醇/甲醇)中製備及聚合反應係在3.6:1(重量比)二甲苯/正丁醇(替代1:1之二甲苯/正丁醇)中進行以外。
具有49.5重量% NVC之該聚合物係如圖1中所闡明之方式乳化。將含四級銨-磺酸根抗衡離子官能基之丙烯酸聚合物溶液(600 g)及消泡劑Foamaster NDW(Cognis Corporation)(12 g)置於容器A中並在Dispermat實驗室用高速分散器上以高剪切攪拌。隨後將預先製備之聚(環氧乙烷)-嵌段-聚(環氧丙烷)-嵌段-聚(環氧乙烷)界面活性劑(乳化劑)(由Uniqema Inc.製造之Synperonic PE/F68)(30 g)溶於水(800 g)中之溶液歷時60分鐘饋入該聚合物混合物中。
當系統經歷從油包水型至水包油型乳液之相轉換時,出現黏度明顯降低。在結束饋料後,攪拌該乳液1分鐘,留待靜置至少1小時以消解任何泡沫。接著使其通過80 μm尼龍網。
然後,將該乳液(1,200 g)加入配有機械驅動錨式攪拌器、電子溫度控制儀及探針及蒸餾頭/冷凝器/接收器裝置之四頸法蘭口燒瓶中。在開始蒸餾前,稱量燒瓶及內容物,以使可以定時通過重量監測蒸餾過程。
在中速下攪拌乳液並加熱至40℃。然後逐漸施加真空直至觀察到穩定的蒸餾速率。
在除掉呈蒸餾水/溶劑混合物之25.1%之初始總量後,允許最終乳液冷卻。藉由ISO3251之方法測定之非揮發性含量為31.9重量%(理論值31.7%)。計算VOC為130 g/kg。藉由經稀釋乳液之光學顯微術測定粒度實質為0.5至5 μm之範圍內。藉由ICI錐板式黏度計測定黏度為0.32泊。乳液具有乳白色不透明外觀。
將乳液製備實例1之乳液藉由在Dispermat高速分散器中以所示順序混合,併入具有表1中所示組成之塗料中。
該塗料之ICI錐板式黏度為0.35泊。該塗料之所計算之VOC((78 g/l))與典型溶劑型SPC系統(~400 g/l)之可比性佳。
將乳液製法實例2之乳液藉由在Dispermat高速分散器中以所示順序混合,併入具有表2中所示組成之塗料中。
該塗料之ICI錐板式黏度為0.80泊。藉由乾塗料薄膜之光學顯微術測得顏料研磨物為約40 μm。所計算之該塗料之VOC(115 g/l)與典型有機溶劑型SPC系統(~400 g/l)之可比性佳。
溶劑型塗料係基於以上乳液製備實例1之聚合物(乳化前)而製備。該塗料係基於與以上塗料製備實例1相當之聚合物含量及相當含量之殺生物劑顏料。該塗佈組合物顯示於表3中。該塗料係藉由在Dispermat高速分散器中以所示順序混合而製備。
該塗料具有500 g/l之VOC(經計算)。
作為抗污性能之測試,將塗料製備實例1及2分別塗佈至已經用市售抗腐蝕底漆(Intertuf 203,International Paint)預漆之夾板及將該板浸沒於新加坡Changi遊艇俱樂部所處之海中。
定期對塗料膜評估海洋污染生物之沉積。在四個主要生態源中評估污染覆蓋率:微污垢、水草、軟體動物及硬體動物,及目視分析此四種污染類,因為這提供充分的信息以區別塗料性能。在新加坡測試點之12個月浸沒之結果顯示於下表4中。這說明,水型塗料就水草污染而言比溶劑型對照實例表現更佳,及其與標準市售(溶劑型)抗污塗料表現相似。
另一試驗(在新加坡浸沒點6個月)之結果示於以下表5中。此表明,水型系統顯示在此曝露時間週期後之低污染水平,其與溶劑型比較實例及市售丙烯酸銅系統相當。
作為自拋光性能之指示項,塗料在GB-A-1457590(其中之圖7a及7b)中所述類型之旋轉盤式機上進行測試,及在海水中旋轉186天之前及之後測量膜厚度。結果示於下表6中:所提供之數值為以微米計之膜厚度損失。初始乾膜厚度為50至70 μm。所得之~4 μm/月之拋光速率為市售抗污系統之典型速率。
拋光性質與溶劑型相當塗料之彼等相似。此為出乎意料的結果,因為原本預期存在於水型系統中之親水性乳化劑及顏料分散劑會起到增加拋光速率的作用。
為測試該等塗料進行濕-乾循環時之機械完整性,將塗料製備實例1(水型)及塗料製備比較實例(溶劑型)塗佈至已經利用抗腐蝕底漆(Intertuf 203,International Paint)底涂之鋼板。乾燥後,將此類板完全浸沒於海水(25℃)中7天,然後在35℃海水中部份浸沒(24小時)及曝露(未浸沒)至-5℃(24小時)之間循環。兩種塗料在循環(8個週期)期間顯示無膜完整性之損失(未形成破裂或剝離),其說明水型塗料之膜性質與溶劑型相當塗料之彼等相似。此為出乎意料的結果,因為原本預期存在於水型系統中之親水性乳化劑及顏料分散劑會因提高之親水性而有損膜性質,在循環之浸沒部份期間導致更多水進入,產生更大膜內部應力。
為對比JP 2007023243中所揭示之抗污組合物與按照本發明之第一態樣製備之抗污組合物之性質,吾人精確按照JP 2007023243之段落[0076]及[0078]中所述,製備實例P1及P3。在兩種情形下,製備油包水型乳液,但發現其在環境溫度下隔夜儲存時不安定。因此,無法繼續進行塗料調配及測試。
圖1說明在本發明之乳液製備實例中之溶液乳化步驟,其中容器A中之消泡劑及水及最終組合物中之有機溶劑為可選組分。

Claims (9)
- 一種製備抗污塗佈組合物之方法,其包括下列步驟:(a)製備溶於有機溶劑中之黏合劑聚合物;(b)將該黏合劑聚合物及該有機溶劑乳化至水中,以製備水包油型乳液;(c)從乳液中去除部份該有機溶劑;及(d)將該乳液調配成水基抗污塗佈組合物,其中步驟(d)係藉由在水中形成顏料及/或殺生物劑之初始研磨基質,及隨後將該乳液添加至經攪拌之研磨基質中或將該研磨基質添加至經攪拌之乳液中而進行;該黏合劑聚合物為丙烯酸金屬鹽自拋光共聚物。
- 如請求項1之方法,其中該丙烯酸金屬鹽自拋光共聚物為丙烯酸鋅共聚物或丙烯酸銅共聚物。
- 如請求項1之方法,其中該丙烯酸金屬鹽自拋光共聚物為經胺或四級銨基中和之酸性硫酸酯或磺酸酯。
- 如請求項1之方法,其中在該乳化步驟b)之前或期間添加乳化劑及/或界面活性劑。
- 如請求項1之方法,其中部份該有機溶劑係在部分真空下透過蒸餾從該乳液中除掉。
- 如請求項1至5中任一項之方法,其中該水基抗污塗佈組合物包括殺生物劑組分。
- 一種包括水包油型乳液之抗污塗佈組合物,其中該水包油型乳液之油相為溶於有機溶劑中之黏合劑聚合物,該抗污塗佈組合物可藉由如請求項1至6中任一項之方法獲 得。
- 如請求項7之抗污塗佈組合物,其具有低於250g/l之VOC。
- 一種如請求項7或8之抗污塗佈組合物之用途,其係用於塗佈基材。
